Thekla Court is situated in the outskirts of the authentic, historic, small and welcoming town of Polis. The location is peaceful, yet central with an ideal climate. The nearest beach, Chrysochou Bay, is 20 min walk away (5 min by car), and a 7 min stroll brings you to the town centre with its friendly atmospere, excellent restaurants for eating out, bars, internet cafes, outside entertainment, banks, supermarkets and interesting shops. Polis provides a pleasant environment for a relaxing or romantic holiday and is also an ideal base for activities, e.g. cycling, biking, hiking, snorkeling, scuba-diving, coastal cruises, quad biking etc.

This spacious apartment (2 bedrooms) is on the first floor, is designed for enjoyable, flexible living and has great view to the sea and the mountains. It is ideal for families, friends and couples and has its own private Sunny balcony. The property (3 apartments only) benefits from its own private sunny terrace and pool and even a secluded roof terrace - ideal for sun lovers and evening drinks. Outside areas are fully equipped for with sun beds and tables and chairs for outside meals and drinks.

This 2 bedroom apartment has been fitted to a very high standard and include fly screens, air conditioning and central heating. It has a light and very spacious living area (30.6 sq meters) includes a dining suite, coffee table, a three and a two seater sofa bed, full entertainment system including Satellite TV (NileSat) and broadband internet access for laptop (additional cost). Each bedroom has twin beds and spacious fully fitted wardrobes and patio doors to their own private Sunny balcony. As the sofa beds in the living room provides beds for two additional adults and one extra child a maximum of 6 adults can share this apartment.

The kitchen is fully fitted with fridge freezer, fitted oven, hob and hood, microwave, toaster and washing machine. There is a full size bathroom with heated towel rail, bath, shower, WC and wash basin. There is also a separate shower room with heated towel rail and a separate cloakroom, providing a flexible arrangement that also avoids a bathroom queue.

Each bedroom has air conditioning, central heating, tiled floors, large fully fitted wardrobes and bedside lamps. The sofa beds in the living room provides beds for two additional adults and one extra child (beyond the 4 beds in the bedrooms) providing beds for a maximum of 6 adults in this apartment.

There is a full size spacious bathroom with heated towel rail, bath, shower, WC and wash basin and additional towel rails. There is also a separate shower room with heated towel rail, as well as a separate cloakroom with WC and sink unit.

The bathroom and the cloak room has a shelf and a tooth brush holder under the mirror; the bathroom also has 2 cupboards.

The Paphos region

The district of Paphos has the most varied landscape on the island of Cyprus with coastal and mountain villages (each unique), often surrounded by orchards of citrus fruit, olive and almond trees, vinyards full of grapes, and banana plants. The villages are also worth exploring for local museums, crafts, traditions and architecture. There are also numerous uncrowded beaches all along the coast.

The Paphos district is on the West coast of of the island and offers an excellent climate, the most pleasant (coolest) in the summer and warm in the winter. Paphos town (once the Roman capital of Cyprus is listed UNESCO heritage) and district is also know for its historical and archaeolgical sites and museums. This harbour town is lively, friendly with many shops, places to eat, drink and relax and also Paphos Castle where concerts, opera and other entertainment can be enjoyed in the open during the summer.

Paphos offers several excellent golf courses, The Secret Valley Golf Club (6120 meters and 18 holes plays to par 72 ) is 18 km east of Paphos, the most recently opened is the luxurious Aphrodite Hills (6299 meters and plays to par 70). Tsada Golf Course (6060 meters and 18 holes, plays to par 72) is the nearest, it is just 25 minutes away from Polis. As it is on an elevated position 550 meters above sea level it benefits from cool breezes during the summer months.

Monasteries (making their own wine and sweets) and churches of interest and beauty are well worth a visit and are located in every region of Cyprus.


Polis, which in Greek means town, is one of the most beautiful, authentic and friendly towns of Cyprus. This historic town has its own character, interesting buildings, museum, a beautiful church and the main square which provides a real social hub. All expected amenities are provided, with many excellent restaurants, bars, shops, internet cafees, banks etc.. In the warm summer evenings Outside entertainment by local performers is often available for all to enjoy.

Dotted with citrus groves, overlooking turquoise seas, Polis is the least developed beach resort in the South of Cyprus. It is the perfect base for a relaxing, interesting stay and also for an activity holiday, offering easy access to the varied landscapes of rocky promontories, lush meadows, rugged forests, sleepy monasteries and quiet beaches all along the coast in this largely unspoiled western region of Cyprus.

The 'Blue Flag' sandy beach at Chrysochous bay (with Taverna, bar and sunbeds), close to a small forest of Pine trees, is the nearest to the apartment. The new walk and cycle path that runs along this beach from Polis to the fishing port Latchi is ideal for evening strolls and for selecting your preferred spot on this beach - where the sea is calm and sheltered and hence ideal for swimming.

Visit Latchi with its great harbour-side fish restaurants and marina where water sports, scuba diving and boating excursions are available activities. Walk or cycle to Latchi using the path along the beach (shortest distance) or drive/cycle along the road to Latchi which also has its own cycle/walking promenade.

Polis is near romantic tourist sites, close to where Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, used to meet her beloved Adonis. It looks across Chrysochou Bay to the nearby Akamas Peninsula, a spectacular nature conservation area complete with unique coves for sunbathing and swimming and hiking trails steeped in mythological legends.

Polis is also an ideal base for easy access to the surrounding coastal and mountain villages which offer authentic Greek Cypriot hospitality, culture and cuisine, while unique flora and fauna abound. It is within easy reach of bustling towns like Paphos (30 mins drive only), the Trodos mountains and also the airport. Activities like Jeep Safaris, Quad biking, Scuba diving, Go Karting, Coastal cruises, horse riding, water and amusement parks and golf courses are easily accessable from Polis.

For some extra pampering visit the Natural Healing Spa resort in nearby Miliou (Ayii Anargyri Natural Healing Spa Resort) next to Miliou's healing springs (10-15 mins by car).

Tour buses and/or local buses provide trips to places of interest, but for independent visits a car is highly recommended.

"We absolutely loved the appartment and this is the best part of Cyprus to visit"

We stayed for 10 days in the 2 bed appartment. The directions were very easy to follow. We were a short walk from the centre and a 5 minute drive to Lachi and the beaches. The appartment was very nice, clean and conveniently arranged and perfect for our family of 5. The equipment and fittings were to a very good standard. The air conditioning worked well on what was an extremely hot 10 days. The pool was very clean and nice to relax in. The kitchen had all the utensils to enable us to cook a wide variety of meals during our stay. Having bikes within the appartment was very handy for mountain biking in the evening and the roof terrace was nice to eat out in on the evenings where we fancied a night in. Customer service was good and we have already recommended it to our friends who are likely to visit in Oct. The appartment is also good for large families as there are two studios which would give older children / parents a bit of privacy whilst being able to keep an eye on things. Polis is our favourite part of Cyprus - not overbuilt like some parts and retaining the character of Cyprus. We love the harbour at Lachi for eating out (Nicandros was very good), jet ski-ing, water boarding and the town centre restaurants and shops. We also loved picking some of the figs, oranges, carobs and prickly pears that line many of the roads. Also visited the many villages up in the mountains and the turtles at Lara Bay on the Akamas peninsula. The Galaxy taverna right behind the appartment is great for a cheap souvlakia in pitta bread for lunch. Papantonios Supermarket is 5 mins drive too and very reasonable. See you again soon!

"Sadly disappointing"

Sadly a dissappointment Stayed for 2wks end of May 2012. On the face of it apt looked nice, but my heart sank when we opened the curtains in the louge/kichen, through one window a view of scrub/wastel… More

One part of the land around Thekla Court is owned by Turkish-Cypriots who moved to the North of the Island after the Turkish invasion of 1974. As Greek-Cypriots are not allowed to develop other people's land, it is at the moment unused. Few people will describe an overgrown field that looks as nature intended, full of wild flowers, trees and birds as scrub/waste land and unpleasant to the eye. However, if you cast your eyes a little further, the views are exactly as shown on the Website, both towards the hills of Akamas and the bay bordering the sea.

The building at the back of our property, up a hill behind our garage, is not exactly delapidated. It is a café (it was very popular with our guests) which is under new management and is currently being extended and renovated. It is not under our control.

That a couple of people living in neighbouring apartments take a short cut through someone else's land to get to their flats is not really our concern. They do NOT go via our property.

We do our utmost to ensure the apartments are clean when guests arrive, so this was an unfortunate incident. As a result a member of the cleaning team has been replaced so this will not happen again. However the 'niggles' referred to were also immediately put right. The floor was steamed with a steam mop which left it spotless. The property manager walked on it with bare feet and it didn't leave a single mark on her feet. That apart our current guest has found no issues with the tiles so there is definitely nothing ingrained in our tiles.

Our property is private with a wall surround where the entrance/exit is through the one and only main gate. As stated on the Website the property (3 apartments only) benefits from its own private sunny terrace and pool, i.e. both are private to our property and are not shared with any other. For the purpose of extra privacy and views, Thekla Court also has a Roof Terrace that is fully tiled, is equipped with sunbeds, sun-umbrella, chairs and tables and has a 4 foot wall surround.

As Thekla Court is standing on a hill (hence an extra 8 metres height), the terrace offers panoramic views of the valley of Polis, the Laona mountain range, the hills of Akamas and the sea. Much of the same views can be seen from the pool area and one has to tolerate the fact that these views may have to be shared with some of the people living in the neighbouring apartments.

Our neighbours are very clean, polite and generally very well behaved. Under the neighbour's balcony is a patio (on the ground floor) which reaches all the way to the wall next to our pool area. It is therefore difficult to imagine how ash could (even on a couple of occasions) be flicked past all of this to land in our pool area, unless it was a very windy day.

It is of course possible that a puppy might sometimes whine. However, as the property manager has never seen or heard the puppy on any of her visits and no other guest has mentioned this, it is hard to believe that it was confined to a balcony 24/7. If we find this to be so, we'll try to address it.

The electric was found to be tripping and property management immediately provided a temporary fix. The electric fault has been identified by an electrician and a permanent solution provided, so this will not occur again. However, it needs to be pointed out that the temporary fix did NOT sacrifice the A/C and it was explained that the A/C fob needs to be inserted into the A/C slot for the A/C to function. It may also be interesting to know that Thekla Court is one of very few houses in the area that needs no A/C most of the year. Once the windows are opened, there is a refreshing westerly breeze coming from the sea, most of the time.

The satellite TV was and is working, but it currently has limited TV coverage. Contrary popular belief the temporarily reduced coverage is not at all caused by Sky or any illegal activity, but by the decommissioning of a satellite that (unknown to us and many others) was at the end of its operational life. Its removal has impacted signals right across southern Europe, including Cyprus. Several new satellites will be commissioned to replace it; the first one is scheduled for commissioning later this year. In the meantime we are also looking for alternative solutions for better TV coverage. This situation was explained and our guest was also helped to find the TV news channel and Radio 2.

Any bad smell was unfortunately not highlighted to us. However, as the property manager, any past guest or indeed our current guest has not noticed any bad smells, it is clearly no longer there.

A 'whining' toilet flash was also not highlighted to us by any guest. However, we will ask our current guest to see if it is still happening and then get it fixed.

After all the heavy rain in Cyprus this year mosquitos and some small black flies did appear in May (as they tend to do every year in Cyprus and in many other countries) I can only assume one of these were the culprits. However this is NOT a problem specific to Thekla Court. It should also be pointed out that Thekla Court is one of the few properties that have equipped every window and patio door with insect netting. As long as the netting panels are kept 'closed' when the windows/patio doors are left open, bad-mannered mosquitoes, wasps etc. remain outside, but if the main doors are left open they might visit at certain times of the year.

As our apartments are self catering and very well equipped, and the majority of our guest do not want to pay for a house keeping service they don't want, this has been reflected in our low rental prices. The property manager will, however, arrange extra housekeeping for guests that would like this service.

It may also be worth pointing out that our property manager also extended her help and took our guests to the supermarket, lent them a Euro coin for the trolley and gave them a local Taxi number for when they had finished. We aim to please.

It was and is clear on the Website that a car is advised and that the nearest beach, Chrysochou Bay, is 20 min walk away (5 min by car). For anyone that wants to make the most of the area and the sea side (open for miles) a bicycle or a car is needed. Paphos is about 25 minutes away, by car.

When going up to Thekla Court the first 10 metres or so are at a steep gradient with the next approximately 100 metres sloping gently uphill, all easily manageable for any person of average fitness level - even if elderly. The steep gradient is explained to all our elderly guests before they book, as was also the case in this instant.
