About the home

This wonderful apartment was constructed in the late 1700s with barrel vaulted ceilings. It is comprised of two levels. It has a beautiful terrace with an extraordinary sea view of 270° complete with comfortable outdoor furniture. This renovated apartment is located in an ideal location and was constructed on one of the more famous cliffsides of Polignano a Mare. It is near the historic center of Polignano a Mare. The cathedral and historic square is only 50 meters away along with bars, restaurants and shops. The beach is only 200 meters away.
This flat offers a relaxing holiday by the sea and ideally located in terms of its proximity to the surrounding towns.
This house stands in the real heart of the old town, only 50mt far from the Cathedral the historical square surrounded by historic buildings and only 200 mt from the nearest beach.
This extraordinary apartment is perfect for a romantic, relaxing and cultural holiday!

Flat is composed of two levels and a terrace:
First level: Large living room with a fireplace and a double sofa bed (20mq). Equipped with TV and VHS. Kitchen without an oven but with a refrigerator (mq 12).

Second level:
One toilet with shower, bidet and wc (mq 5)
One double bedroom with closet and air conditioning (mq 10).
One patio with furniture (mq 12)

Third level
Seafront terrace with external furniture including an umbrella (mq 25).

Please note: if you plan on coming by car to Polignano a Mare during the peak season, you will have a hard time finding a parking space. We recommend reserving a space in a parking garage about 100 meters from the apartment. It is possible to reserve a space in this garage a week before your stay. Late reservations are not honored.

The Puglia/Molise region

Puglia is a wonderful area to consider. It offers at least one excellent archaeological museum, a host of cathedrals dating back to the 10th century, Greek and Roman ruins, a gleaming necklace of lively fishing villages, one of Europe's largest forests, a chain of medieval hilltowns, and some of the very cleanest beaches and water in the Mediterranean.

The Polignano a Mare area

Polignano a Mare overlooks the sea with houses from high up on the rocks. The buildings are all whitewashed, there is a stunning cathedral. The numerous caves in Polignano al Mare were formed from the rough sea waves that molded the rock. Some of the caves are deep enough to reach the centre of the town.

What to see:
Chiesa Matrice, consacrated in 1295, with a massive, quadrangular bell tower. The 16th century Renaissance style prevails inside the church, but the presbytery is Baroque.
S. Vitos Abbey, with a sixteenth-century loggia, a large courtyard and a medieval watch-tower.
Palazzese Grotto can be reached from the sea and from land, via a staircase inside the famous restaurant of the same name.

“Disappointing, overpriced apartment with essentials missing” I booked the apartment from the agency HelloApulia who, as I found out only later, charged the high season price for my stay in September (rather than the price quoted on the Holidaylettings website) which made the little house very pricey indeed. The good points: central location, nice views, clean and well-renovated. But... First of all, it was nearly impossible to cook meals as there was NO work surface in the virtually non-existent 'kitchenette', just two gas rings and a sink and literally no space anywhere to put stuff or chop things. No chopping board, only two pans with one being heavily scratched, no dish clothes, no oven glove to make it possible to touch hot pans (which you then could not put down anywhere), no rubbish bin even. Second, it would have been fair to mention that there is a restaurant and cafe downstairs which makes it quite noisy in the evenings. With lots of people getting together on the view point terrace below and then looking up at the surrounding houses, it was not convenient to leave the windows open in the living room (unless you welcome people watching you) - which meant the sea views, which were the main reason why I chose that apartment, could not be enjoyed from the living room. The nice roof terrace I could not use once it got dark as there was no light, so in the end I had to spend the evenings without sea views on the middle terrace. There was building work done on the roof terrace on the front, so that in the morning I had men looking into the bedroom from opposite. So, again, close the shutters, no view of the sea. What else? The toilet flushes properly only every fifth time. No cushions for the outdoor furniture to make the wooden chairs more comfortable. Etc etc. When I contacted the agency after my stay and pointed out the shortcomings of the apartment as well as the difference in price quoted on Holidaylettings and charged by them, they did not even bother to reply. To my mind, advertising the flat as suitable for 4 people is a joke - the rooms are very small, and if you opened up the bed sofa in the living room it would be completely impossible to move. I've stayed in lots of self-catering places, also in Southern Italy, but I've never before felt so ripped-off.
