Honeysuckle Cottage is 250 years old and is a traditional Cornish Cottage which has been sympathetically extended and modernised whilst retaining many character features. It has been furnished to a high standard with the comfort of holidaymakers in mind.
It stands in a quiet wild flower banked lane used, in the main by dog walkers, hikers, cyclists, horseriders and our neighbours 100 yards away. It overlooks meadows and is surrounded by mature woodland. It has the added advantage of a 16th Century pub a five minute walk away and a well equipped shop/post office/off licence.
The Cottage is suitable for families, couples, hikers and cyclists and is pet friendly. Families will love the nearby beaches and the many attractions including the Eden Project. For those wanting to walk or hike, the area has many footpaths. Cyclists are also well catered for with a dedicated bike trail close by which runs from St Austell to the closest beach at Pentewan and then onto Heligan and Mevagissey. Those wanting to visit gardens will not be disappointed as there are a number in the area including the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
With all these attractions and pursuits at hand, this cottage is an all year round destination. The autumn and winter seasons are also great here at Honeysuckle Cottage and ideal for a short break (or longer if wished). It is magical when the log fire is burning - why not toast some crumpets or make a Cornish cream tea. Maybe later it is time for a large glass of red wine before or after visiting the local pub which is a beautiful 17th Century pub and only(5 minutes walk away down the lane.. A perfect way to end a day after, for example, a trip to the ice skating rink at the Eden Project (you don't need to pay to go into the Eden Project) which opens October to March. Perhaps you would like a walk along the coastal path, on one of the beaches or in nearby Kingswood. A winter walk through the Lost Gardens of Heligan is always a treat .
If a peaceful time after Christmas is what is required, Honeysuckle Cottage can certainly provide this. Just curl up with a book by the fire and watch the horse riders and dog walkers pass by. The cottage sits on its own so is secluded but not isolated.
Our dog guests also tell us that it is a great place to stay.
The Cottage is ideally situated for touring Cornwall as its central position means that nowhere in the County is much more than 1 hour away.

Honeysuckle Cottage is centrally heated and has been beautifully furnished. It has a feeling of spaciousness and offers three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has a double superking bed and an en-suite and there is also 1 bedroom with twin beds and the third bedroom having full sized bunk beds. The main bathroom is superb with a free standing bath. Open the windows and you can watch the birds whilst lying in the bath. In the master bedroom, there are french doors opening to a sun terrace where you can sit and enjoy your first cup of tea/coffee of the day.
Downstairs, the kitchen is a light and airy vaulted room which opens to a conservatory housing the breakfast area. The kitchen is hand crafted Shaker style with a slate floor and has been superbly equipped with a range cooker, SMEG fridge/freezer, SMEG dishwasher, washing machine etc. There is an ample supply of quality crockery, cutlery, glassware and kitchenware. It is very Cath Kidston.
A few steps down from the kitchen is a spacious family room/dining room. This has an oak table with 6 oak chairs with matching sideboard. At the far end, near another french door opening to the side of the house, are two settees and a 42 inch television. This room is not only for dining but for relaxing either watching TV or having an aperitif before supper. There is an I-pod docking station for those who wish to listen to music.
Adjoining this there is a beamed sitting room with 2 leather settees and a leather chair (all reclining) seating 6. Here you will find another television and DVD player as well as games, books and DVDs. This is a cosy room especially on chilly autumn/winter evenings when the log burner is alight. It is a good place to sit and sip a glass or two of red wine. It has free Wi-Fi

Behind the cottage and rising up the valley side is a large and secluded garden set on three levels with steps and handrails and surrounded by trees. It has been thoughtfully landscaped with areas including level lawns and terracing retained with stone walls. There is a table and two benches on the top terrace which is a lovely place to sit and perhaps enjoy a gin and tonic or have a barbecue whilst enjoying the stunning views across the valley. It's a great way to spend the evening after a day on one of the many local beaches or after exploring one of the numerous local attractions. A barbecue is supplied.
Not just for the summer either. One of our guests have even suggested that if it was cold and dry, they would light the barbecue on Christmas Day! Certainly an autumn or winter barbecue would be fun especially with jugs of mulled wine.

The Cornwall region
Cornwall is renowned for its mild climate, diverse, dramatic scenery and beautiful beaches. It also has many quaint fishing villages, some which have grown into little towns such as Mevagissey and Padstow as well as its own culture, flag and the famous Cornish cream teas and the Cornish pasty.
St Austell is some 2 1/2 miles away and is a bustling town with shops, restaurants and a cinema. Sporting activities which can be found include tennis, horseriding, fishing and and several golf courses including one at Polgooth.
Its history is steeped in china clay and tin mining. Polgooth (meaning "Goose Pond"), where the cottage is situated, was a large tin mine supplying Phoenician traders with tin 3000 years ago. Most of the mining ceased in1894. There is very little to show of its history although the old count house survives as does one of the old engine houses and a stamping mill - all now converted to private residences.

"A cottage for all seasons - just perfect!"
Honeysuckle cottage really is perfect. It is beautifully appointed, in a wonderful location and the owners couldn't be more attentive in their efforts to ensure you have a lovely stay. It certainly exceeded our expectations and our 2 year old loved it. The garden is beautiful for the warmer months (sadly May proved to be a little chilly!) but it doubtless is a cottage which could be enjoyed at any time, with the cosy reception rooms and log burner. Don't delay... Book your break in this wonderful holiday home (though please save a week for us!).

What a lovely place to stay! We stayed in Honeysuckle cottage in early May 2013 and couldn't have wished for a better place to call home for the week. The cottage is fantastically equipped and beautifully decorated. Our two Labrador's had a wonderful time and the careful planning of the owners meant they were able to roam free in the bottom section of the garden and courtyard in total safety. Upon leaving we completed a questionnaire and could not think of a single negative. The Cottage is situated down a secluded lane, yet it is only a short drive to the seaside town of Mevagissey, the main shops of St Austell etc. We would love to return and would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone looking to stay in Cornwall.
