The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vienne region
The Poitou-Charentes is reputed to be the second sunniest region of France after the Cote d'Azur. The local people are very welcoming, especially if you try out your French. Poitiers has a lovely old centre, lots of restaurants and shops. Angouleme has it's ancient ramparts to explore and Cognac has it's distilleries to tour and compare product. La Rochelle on the coast has a wonderful old port with many fish restaurants, and the walled centre with little alleyways and many shops must be visited. The aquarium at La Rochelle is one of the best we have seen. The RN10 runs down the border with Deux Sevres and on to the border with Charente, so you can visit three departements in one day! Limoges porcelain is renowned throughout Europe.
Poitiers area
There are so many things to do and see in the area that a folder is provided in each gite with information for everyone. As an example, La Vallee des Singes is nearby, Futuroscope at Poitiers - a must see, l'Ile aux Serpents, Zoodyssee, the war memorial village at Oradour-sur-Glane, Velorail at Roumazieres and Confolens, and so much more.
How to get there
Chaunay is just off the RN10 between Poitiers and Angouleme on the border between Vienne and Deux-Sevres. Fly by Ryanair to Poitiers; other airports - Nantes, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Limoges. Train by Eurostar to Lille or Paris, then TGV to Poitiers Channel Tunnel to Calais - approx. 6.5 hours' drive mainly by autoroute to Chaunay. Ferry to any of the main French ports. Route finders: Mappy, Via Michelin.

Guestbook for La P'tite Boulangerie
'We so loved our time in La Petite Boulangerie last summer we would love to book another week during next August 2009'. Richard & Charlotte and the girls, Wimborne.
'We wanted to say thank you so much for being such a fabulous hostess, you made us so very welcome at La Charronnière. Self catering is often limited so we were very surprised to see such a well equipped holiday home, you had thought of everything, from extra towels so I could wash my hair, a fantastic bottle of wine & nibbles for our grumbling tummies even treats for the dogs, which they loved'. Best Wishes, Caro & Gavin and of course Mono & Bailey, Marbella, Spain.
'We greatly enjoyed our stay at la Charronnière. You can get there in a day from London by-passing Paris now that the A28 south of Rouen is open. The gites are well appointed and comfortable and the setting is delightful - you really can relax and unwind in this appealing corner of France. Some very interesting places are within easy reach so there's plenty to do if you want a break from the pool. Our only regret was that our stay was too short - we'll put that right next time'. Richard and Penny, Surrey
'Far from the madding crowd; La Charronnière offered us more than ample peace, tranquility comfort and style - it was an ideal gateway to explore the region's gastronomic and historic wonders! Thank you, Louise, for your wonderful hospitality and friendly advice. Our thanks to your incredibly friendly chooks for their deliciously fresh eggs!' A bientot!! Jean and Alice, Paris
'Thank you so much for the lovely few days we spent with you. La Charronnière is lovely and we really enjoyed our time there. Thank you for all your kind help and for making us and our dog so welcome'. Kind regards, Carole, Paul and Murphy-the-dog, Surrey.
