The Grand-Baie region
With glorious weather, strings of beautiful sandy beaches and still, clear lagoons as its prize assets, and the water-sport playground of Grand Baie as its focus, the north-west coast is the part of Mauritius which is most dedicated to the needs of holiday-makers.

You can also visit the numerous national heritage sites in the region and the World Heritage Site of the "Aapravasi Ghat" just as you come into Port-Louis. The Aapravasi Ghat was the first immigration depot to be built in the world as part of the "Great Experiment" by the British Empire of the time in an attempt to bring indentured labourers on the island.
Nearly 500,000 Indians were brought to Mauritius, making it the largest immigration exercise in the world.
