Home description

Villa Solinga is a wonderful villa with 300m2 living space situated directly on the water front. It was built in the early eighteenth century and has always belonged to the same Milanese family, who chose lake Como as their summer retreat to get away from the warm and humid town. At that time families travelled by train or carriage to Como and then further up the lake by boat .

Villa Solinga has undergone many renovations but has maintained its " homely" atmosphere and is furnished with both family antiques and modern pieces.

From the mainfloor with living and dining room and kitchen , by a flight of stairs you reach the jetty. The terrace offers lots of space for outside dining and quiet corners to admire the beautiful lake and sunset. On the first floor is a double bedroom with adjoining sitting room with fireplace and shower room. On the second floor two double bedrooms sharing one bathroom. On the upper floor is an open space bedroom with 3 beds. ( one double 140 cm wide) and one single bed

By an outer winding stairs you reach a terrace with open air shower and furnished with deckchairs , this gives you again a lovely secluded spot for sunbathing

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area

Lake Como is at 200 mt above sealevel. Situated at the south side of the Alps it has a temperate climate and estremely sunny , in winter it hardly rains although we get now and then a minor snow fall and the mountain tops remain white all through winter and early springtime.

Lake Como is an ideal place to pass your holidays: not far from Milan ( trade fairs), Como ( silk industry, and historical town , lively market 3 times a week) , surrounding mountains( for hiking, mountainbiking or a leisurely car drive up to panoramic view points), boat trips on the lake ( criscrossing from one village to the other), beautiful villas with parks open to the public ( Carlotta in Tremezzo for its azaleas), ( Balbianello in Lenno) ( Melzi in Bellagio)

Pognana Lario area

Pognana Lario is a coastal village which has not very much changed since medieval times. It is built against the slopes, through the village runs the narrow motorway from Como to Bellagio. Lots of mountains footpath up to the alpine meadows, waterfalls in nearby Nesso or Villa Pliniana , some recently discovered caves . Villa Solinga is at the water side situated 100 mt underneath the main road.

At 10km is the town Como , interesting town , already known to the romans and became a strong hold in medieval times , a crosspoint for trade between lombardy , austria and switzerland.

Why should you not come to lake Como for its food? good local strong wines ( from vinyards against the sunny mountain slopes in Valtellina), misoltini ( a sun dried lake fish, accompanied by polenta), pizzoccheri ( dark grain pasta) , rich cheeses etc.

villa Solinga is also chosen by youngsters as it offers direct acces to the lake side ( for a dive and swim) and we put at your disposal our 2 sailing boats for expert sailers and two kajaks to explore the surrounding villages . maybe a closer view at Clooney's villa which is directly in front of villa Solinga on the other shore?

The villa has lots of windows with lovely views, is very bright and furnished partly with family antiques and modern pieces , sat TV, wireless internet available. If guests want to bring their own (motor)boat, kajaks or rowing boats , they can be moored in front of the house at our jetty.

Large terrace with garden for outside dining, sunbathing, relaxing, directly on the lake side with lake and mountain views, secluded sunbath terrace with shower. We offer a sailing boat for expert sailers and 2 kajaks. and organize round trips with speedboat to city, restaurants and secluded bays, upon request.
The water is clear and clean.
