Bovisand Lodge is a historical Grade 2 listed Country House set in the Devon countryside providing luxury holiday accommodation with an outstanding Heritage Apartment in the wing of the house.
Situated in an unspoilt wooded valley running down from the hills of Staddon Heights the grounds open onto a safe sandy beach facing Plymouth Breakwater and the Cornish coast, yet is only seven miles from Plymouth City Centre. This charming country house was for many years the home to Joseph Whidbey, the Superintendent Engineer of the great Plymouth Breakwater.
Bovisand is set in a quiet, secluded location adjacent to the coastal path where you can relax and enjoy easy walks with breathtaking views or play golf at the nearby Staddon Heights course.Generations of guests have enjoyed the peace and tranquillity and appreciate the quality environment, which has made their stay memorable and special.

Each apartment is beautifully furnished and decorated to a high 4 star standard and last year received the Gold Award for quality of accommodation and cleanliness. Fully integrated kitchens with all appliances. Centrally heated with under floor heating in the shower room. Quality percale bed linens and white fluffy towels.

Plymouth is situated in the South West of England in the County of Devon. The climate in the South West is generally warmer than other part of the UK.
The historical site of Plymouth Hoe should not be missed where Sir Francis Drake played his famous game of Bowls whilst the Spanish Armada approached nor should the Barbican where you will find an assortment of cobbled streets with small rustic shops and fashionable restaurants - in this area you will also find the Plymouth Gin factory which arranges regular factory tours.
The Plymouth / Wembury area
Bovisand Lodge is only five minutes drive from the Mount Batten Centre - 2 miles away, where you can arrange almost any water sport including sailing and diving. From here it only takes 4 minutes by water taxi to the Barbican in Plymouth. Boat trips around the Sound and up the River Tamar to the Naval Dockyards can also be arranged. Within 1 mile is Staddons Heights golf club with panoramic views of Plymouth Sound, open to non-residents. The nearest riding stables are at Wembury, 5 miles away and there are beautiful trails along the coastal path for leisurely walks.
Plymouth City centre by road is only six miles away; here you will find a wide variety of excellent tourist attractions including the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth Pavilions with a fabulous leisure pool and ice rink and The Theatre Royal where regularly London West End Shows start their life. If you are feeling adventurous, try the dry ski slope or toboggan run, open all year round.

Leave the A38 dual carriageway at Marsh Mills Junction. Take A374 – Plymouth City Centre.
Exit A379 Kingsbridge. Over long bridge then TAKE Plymstock EXIT. Continue along Pomphlett Road, to traffic lights at crossroads.
TURN RIGHT INTO DEAN CROSS ROAD.
Through traffic lights signposted TURNCHAPEL & HOOE. Continue along this road not turning left or right for about 1.5miles then BEAR LEFT INTO JENNYCLIFFE LANE. Through one way system then up hill to Staddon Heights (pylons on hill), PAST GOLF COURSE. Second turning on right down hill signposted FORT BOVISAND. At car park do a complete U-turn and take lower road to ‘Bovisand Lodge Estate’.

Just a quick note to say how very much we enjoyed our stay in your Whidbury apartment this week. I did mean to fill in your questionnaire before we left, but I forgot! However, I would like to say how very lovely your accommodation is - and beautifully warm and cosy - essential at this time of year. A lot of thought has obviously gone into the decoration and furnishings in your apartments. And it's not just inside that is lovely - outside we thoroughly enjoyed the views, cliff walks (despite the weather) and taking a dip in your beautiful swimming pool. We would definitely make you our first choice for a return visit to Plymouth and would not hesitate in recommending Bovisand Lodge apartments to family and friends.
