Our seven peaceful cottages are dotted around our working organic dairy farm, set in unspoilt countryside on the beautiful South Devon coast. As unique in character as they are diverse in style, we have a cottage to suit everybody - offering every accommodation solution from a romantic hideaway for two, to a grand 'gentleman's residence' for fourteen.

All our cottages are just a few minutes walk from the coast path and some lovely remote beaches and coves, whilst the wilderness of Dartmoor is only a short drive away. The wonderful Erme estuary and Mothecombe beach, with over 130 acres of sand at low tide, is just a couple of miles away.

Explore the nearby picturesque towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe or visit the historic port of Plymouth. Why not visit out of season and cosy down by a roaring log fire, or come and see the lambs in spring? Short breaks available all year.

All the cottages have their own large gardens, perfect for children to play in, while the fresh sea air usually means a good night's sleep is in order! There is a lovely wildflower meadow for children and adults alike to enjoy. Complete with apple trees, a hazel copse, living willow sculpture, grassy areas, Alice The Tractor and some children's play equipment, it also marks the start of the new farm wildlife trail!

All the cottages are extremely well equipped with Digital widescreen TVs, DVDs, washing machines, dishwashers etc and all have private gardens with table and BBQ. Cots and high chairs available on request. Dogs very welcome.

We put fresh local organic milk in each cottage for guests on arrival. Carswell is also the birthplace of the Well Hung Meat Company so our visitors can taste award winning local organic lamb and beef.

Open all year. 4* and 4* GOLD Visit Britain rated. 7 cottages sleeping from 2 to 14 people.

The Devon region

The remote wilderness of Dartmoor dominates the views to the north and is just a short drive away, while the beautiful estuary of the River Erme and Mothecombe beach are also only a couple of miles from here. With 130 acres of sand at low tide, many well known productions - like 'Sense and Sensibility' and 'Hornblower' have been filmed in this stunning location.

Explore the nearby picturesque towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe, visit the historic maritime port of Plymouth to see where the Mayflower set sail to America or enjoy a visit to the famous National Marine Aquarium.

This area is very popular for sailing, especially dinghies. Lovely, too, for walking, with paths that wind through the oak woods revealing breathtaking views at every turn.

Plymouth

The farm is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with an exceptional variety of wildlife and plants, including some extremely rare species that are encouraged because the farm is organic.

Carswell is one of the few places in the country where you could spot a cirl bunting and there is a pair of faithful Peregrine Falcons who nest on the cliff here every year. We have an abundance of wildlife - hares, bats and badgers are just a few of the residents you are sure to see, and many more besides. We have barn owls and little owls residing in the old barns behind Lambside House - walk down the farm lane and see if you can see them out hunting.

The closest villages to Carswell are Newton Ferrers, Noss Mayo and Holbeton. Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers are about two miles away, nestled on each side of the River Yealm where the boats float lazily on the water, sheltered by high wooded hillsides: charming villages with old fishermen's cottages and creekside pubs that serve good food (and welcome children and dogs). There is a local Co-Op, post office, butcher and pharmacy in Newton Ferrers.

It is a similar distance to Holbeton, which has two good pubs, a shop & a post office (open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and weekend mornings).

The nearest large sandy beach is at Mothecombe, about 2 miles away, or try Bigbury-on-Sea a few miles further, but with a cafe open all year round and seasonal life guards. Bigbury also has an amazing sea tractor to take you to Bigbury Island when it is cut off by the tide!

The historic maritine city of Plymouth is only 11 miles away with the historic Barbican area and fishing harbour well worth a visit.
