About the home

This waterfront, modern built, 2 double bedrooms, 3rd bedroom with 2 single beds. The house is split over 3 floors and has 3 bathrooms. The windows are double glazed and the house features central heating and a lounge room fire. The furniture and fittings are to a high standard. There is parking available for 2 cars,on the driveway, more available in an adjacent street.

This is a perfect location to base your holiday from,with plenty of beaches within the immediate area,from the property there is a coastal walk past Mountbatten beach, Jennycliff beach taking you to Bovisands, a soft sand trio of beaches with shop and restaurant. Water sports are available from the Mountbatten centre or the Plymouth sailing school, the nearest golf coarse is within a mile and horse-riding is within 4 miles.

The property border Plymouth so there is always plenty on offer. Plymouth has a large aquarium, loads of shops with a newly built indoor shopping centre. Restaurants, bars, and plenty of night clubs. Built around a large harbour approximately 4 miles across. Of coarse you don't have to tire yourself out, holidays are about relaxing. Simply sit on the balcony with your favourite drink and watch the boats up and down the river, b.b.q. your evening meal on the terrace and watch the sun go down.

2 car driveway to the rear of the property. Terraced patio with b.b.q, and seating to the front of the property with water views.

1/2 mile away is Fort Stamford: within is an indoor heated pool, cafe bar, child play area, fully equipped gymnasium, running machines, weights, machines, and aerobic classes and squash courts.

Next to it is a grassed area with extensive views over Plymouth harbour and into Cornwall. Jennycliff beach, car park and cafe are a short walk away. Plenty of fishing in the area.

The West Country / Devon region

Peace and tranquillity reign supreme at Mount Batten. It is a small peninsula surrounded by Plymouth harbour and the River Plym. In the immediate area there is the marina, a beach with stunning views and sunsets, 2 newly built pubs, "The Mount Batten" and "The Bridge".

A short walk (5mins) along the coastal path takes you to Turnchapel, a historic fishing village, with a small beach and a few small boats, with another 2 pubs "The Borrington Arms”, and "The Clovelly", which both have excellent food.

Walk along the coastal path further alongside Hooe Lake, a view over Radford Park, and its castle, arriving at Hooe itself, with a few takeaways and a shop, park and child’s play area. Four beaches within 5 miles, plenty of country pubs, obviously there are many more beaches available to you, within an hour’s drive. The Plymouth / Mount Batten area

From Mount Batten, take the water taxi for £1 into the historic Barbican area(www.mountbattenferry.com), with its restaurants, tourist shops, and bars. Walk up past the citadel, onto the Hoe, with its swimming pools, beaches, cafe's, bar, ice cream and enjoy panoramic views across Plymouth harbour, see both Devon and Cornwall from here.

Boats are available for 1 hour trips, for views of the Tamar River. Take a car/taxi to the Cremel ferry £1, and spend the day at Mount Edgecombe, National Trust home, and gardens. If you’re feeling fit, you can walk to Cawsands and Kingsands 2 small fishing villages, about 3-4miles from the ferry, alternatively take the ferry there from the Hoe. Fish and chips on the beach, or a cold beer or 2 are on offer.

Plenty of shopping is available inside Plymouth's city centre, with an aquarium minutes away from the Mt. Batten ferry. Plymouth has an airport, ferry port,national bus depot and a railway station; if you are arriving without a car, Europe car hire has an office at the train station (01752-668004) and I have found their prices to be the most competitive in the past. There is also a national car hire on Alexander road Mutley.

If arriving by bus, I recommend taking a taxi to the train station for a car, about a 1/2 mile distance.

If you choose to arrive by plane into Plymouth airport the nearest car hire is united, in Estover about 1 mile away. 01752-696968.

“Amazing views and great property” We stayed at Mount Batten House for my sons Passing out parade in Plymouth. The house is lovely and the views over the water where amazing. The owner was very helpful and gave us information on the best way to the Navy base. The property is well furnished and Simon left a bottle of wine which we enjoyed on our first night. We will be back and spend a little more time exploring the area. Food at the local restaurant which was only four doors away was also fantastic. Thanks for a great break. Caroline

“Wonderful property - clean and really comfortable” Should have written this review immediately after our stay, but time has whizzed by. Staying at Mount Batten over the last New Year was the wonderful getaway that we needed after the hustle and bustle of a busy Christmas at home. We were lucky to enjoy fine weather most days and wished we'd taken the opportunity to do more of the coastal walks. The beach is conveniently just two minutes walk. The beds were soooo comfortable - unusual I find for a holiday home - we will definitely go back some time. Thank you.

“brilliant house, excellent location” the house was thoroughly cleaned throughout,before our arrival.it had bigger rooms than we exspected.the owner left us a bottle of good wine. it was a lovely place for my wife and i to relax. the owner lent us some fishing equipment so we could take our grandson fishing on the near by beach.

“An excellent property in an ideal location.” We have just had a great week at Mountbatten House with our 2 teenaged children. The location is ideal for exploring the local area, the views across to Plymouth are superb and if you enjoy walking, the walk around the coast to Bovisand (via the cafe at Jennycliff) is not to be missed. Mountbatten breakwater is a 5 minutes walk away, a great place to watch the ships and ferries in Plymouth Sound, and for looking back across at The Hoe. Also nearby is the water taxi across to The Barbican, from which there is a short walk into the town centre. There are plenty of supermarkets and smaller shops within a short drive, and as well as The Bridge restaurant a couple of minutes walk away (excellent for breakfast), there are many places to eat and drink within a short drive, or a hop across the water taxi. The house is very comfortable, spotlessly clean and with everything we needed for the week. The owner left a bottle of wine as a welcome, and in addition he provided all the things that are sometimes annoyingly missing from a holiday let - toilet rolls, bin liners, tea towels, washing up liquid (all the things I usually forget to pack!). The windows in the lounge opened onto a balcony, literally overlooking the marina, and it was great to be able to sit and watch the boats bobbing about in the water - very relaxing. And as a Plymothian ex-pat myself, I couldn't get enough of the wonderful view! There are a lot of stairs in the property, not an issue for us at all, and there were safety bannisters, but this may be an issue for anyone not good with stairs. I love this house, I will definitely stay there again, and having stayed in various properties in the Plymouth area, this is my favourite.
