For a relaxing and peaceful holiday, yet close to the vibrant city, Dunstone in Turnchapel is a modern well equipped base for exploring the region, or just enjoying the local walks and coastline. The house is 50 yards from the waterfront, and guests love sitting and watching the boats from the first floor sitting area.
Turnchapel is a historic, conservation village on Clovelly Bay, Plymouth Sound, next to the Mount Batten marina and sailing activities centre. The village is adjacent to the beautiful South Hams, with superb coastal walks, beaches and countryside. Two traditional real ale pubs serve food. Within a 10 min. walk, Mount Batten has two more restaurants and a pub. Staddon Heights Golf Club is a 5 minute drive. Plymouth city centre is easily accessible by car or bus. Alternatively, visitors can take a water taxi from Mountbatten and land at the historic Mayflower steps, in the centre of the mediaeval Barbican. Here there is a wide selection of pubs and restaurants and it’s a lovely stroll to Plymouth Hoe, one of the finest waterfronts in the world. The city has a full range of modern shopping outlets. Plymouth is the centre of the SW area, and is full of shopping and leisure opportunities. From the house a short walk and water taxi ride from Mount Batten takes you to the Barbican, the heart of the old city, via the world famous historic Mayflower Steps so its easy to visit during the day or evening without taking the car. The Barbican has a wonderful choice of fine restaurants.
The Plymouth / Turnchapel area
Turnchapel is still a working fishing village; it is ideal for exploring the coast - it's at the end of one of the key sections of one of the worlds finest long distance walks - the South West Coastal Path, and the walk along the edge of Plymouth Sound is spectacular.Jennycliff is just above the village and has panoramic views across the harbour to Cornwall and Dartmoor. Mount Batten is a magnificent centre for sailing and other water based activities - even just watching is great fun. Bovisand beach is a few minutes by car, or is an hour's walk.
