About the home

This luxury top floor loft style flat is on the waterfront with easy access to Plymouth, Dartmoor, South Devon coastline and a short trip across the Tamar to Cornwall. Very spacious 2 bed/2 bath120 m2/1300 sq.ft accommodation with a great sense of space and light due to the double height vaulted roof with exposed roof trusses and glass skylights in the living room. Study area with sofa bed and privacy screen. All the main rooms have the same fantastic view.

Located in the award winning historic Royal William Yard which has been carefully restored and converted to luxury apartments. Original oak floors, exposed limestone & granite walls and cast iron roof structure but with all modern conveniences. Full central heating included so comfortable any time of year. Wireless internet access included as well as a desk, office chair and printer.

There are 7 restaurants now open in the Yard in near by buildings (but far enough away not to disturb you) - Hugh Fearnley's River Cottage, Wagamama, Las Iguanas, Seco Lounge, Prezzo, Le Pierre Bistrot, Le Vignoble (wine bar) and the Town Mill Bakery plus Jolly Jacks at the Mayflower Marina opposite is worth a try. The Artillery Tower restaurant is also nearby and is highly recommended for special occassions.

Devonport dockyard is nearby so there are often Royal Navy ships passing by. Princess Yachts are close by as well as the Mayflower marina so there are numerous yachts & motorboats coming and going as well as the regular Cremyl ferry to add extra interest to the maritime views.

The West Country / Devon region

Plymouth is a City steeped in history, and It has been the home to Colonial Adventurers such as Drake & Darwin and is the place where the Pilgrim Fathers departed from.

Since then Plymouth has grown into a cosmopolitian city where an extrodinary blend of modern city chic meets with this historic seafaring port. There are several places of interest including The Hoe, The Mayflower Steps and The Barbican. You can also expect to find all the modern attractions of a thriving city including great shopping, fine restaurants, excellent theatres and a vibrant night life.

Although there are no beaches in Plymouth, there are many spectacular beaches within a short drive of the City. Here is a selection of the best beaches within the area: Bigbury, Salcombe & Slapton sands in South Devon and Whitsand and Looe just over the Tamar in Cornwall. There are also smaller beaches close by at Bovisand and Wembury. Alternatively, if you do fancy a dip without leaving Plymouth, why not visit the historic Tinside Lido, the open air seawater pool which has been restored to its former glory. It is built in stunning Art Deco style and is situated on the Hoe. The pool is open during summer months.

The Plymouth / Royal William Yard area

The former victualling yard on the banks of the River Tamar was once the supply stores for the Royal Navy, ensuring the ships had sufficient stocks of food and drink. The yard was designed by eminent Victorian engineer Sir John Rennie and was built between 1825 and 1835 and is now a scheduled ancient monument.

It now includes a restaurant as well as an hourly passenger ferry service to/from the Barbican during the summer months (1st May to 30th September in 2011).

Mount Edgcumbe country park is just on the opposite bank of the river Tamar with a frequent passenger ferry connection. There are several National Trust properties with beautiful gardens in the local area - Saltram House, Antony House, Cotehele and Buckland Abbey.

Plymouth itself has the National Marine Aquarium, a large leisure pool, ice rink & event/concert centre at Plymouth Pavilions, the Theatre Royal, cinemas, bowling and a dry ski slope. There are nearby golf courses and for the brave there's the UK's longest zip wire and hovercraft driving at Adrenalin Quarry near Liskeard, PL14 3PJ about a 40minute drive away.

The world famous Eden project is only 40 miles away by car.

“Beautiful appartment, fabulous views, River Cottage dining on the doorstep - who could want more?” Booking was simple and straightforward. Jo who welcomed me ran me through the appartment and how things worked which was great and she also gave some ideas for eating out which was helpful. Within a couple of hundred metres there are 3 restaurants and a gourmet Wine Shop. Dining at River Cottage was a delight as the menu changes daily and everything is delicious and their in-house deli is a joy. A great base for visiting Plymouth and the surrounding area. Whilst visiting Plymouth a trip to the Barbican area is a must and a tour around Plymouth gin is interesting not to mention a G&T as part of the entrance fee. All in all a lovely relaxing break, staying in this appartment is so much more than just having a base, you really love your time in as well as out. “An excellent spot to explore the South of England-very central” Admiral's view was situated in a fantastic spot overlooking the sea. It was fascinating watching the passing parade of vessels. A very comfortable apartment, more like a home than holiday house. Had everyhting we needed, was well equiped. The owner was excellent to deal with, he responded immediately to any email and we made to feel very welcome. “Stunning” This was our last port of call in 8 weeks of travel. It was a magnificent way to end our time in Europe. The accommodation had everything - including magnificent views (and in our case outstanding weather). The location of the accommodation was superb - quiet, yet with plenty to do (and places to eat) within walking distance or a short drive. “A beautfiul Grade I listed property,sympathetically renovated, stunning views- a luxurious home from home” The apartment was extremely spacious, retaining many of the orginal features, such as the wooden floorboards etc;. The apartment had stunning views of the Tamar from every window,where we passed many an hour once the children were in bed, watching the ships and boats go by.The Royal William Yard is very, very quiet on an evening despite being the locaition of three restarurants.There were many thoughtful touches in apartment,such as a Playstation,games and TV in the double room and a Wii games console in the living room which came in very useful one rainy morning. Plymouth itself has plenty to and see and once you have exhausted this it is perfectly lcoated to explore the surrounding areas. The owners were very helpful, leaving a useful instruction manual for the property. The local key holder, Jo was also very helpful. I will not hesitate to re-book this property in the future, in fact I would quite happily have lived there!. “You'll feel like the Admiral here” The apartment is huge and there is ample room for at least four people. Every convenience is provided, from two TVs to washing machine, dishwasher,wi fi and fully equipped kitchen with cookware, glassware, crockery and cutlery. The beds are comfortable and all the appliances work well and are easy to use. There is plenty of storage space. Mike, the owner, is friendly, reliable and accommodating to your needs. Payment, check-in and check-out were all a breeze and my security deposit was promptly refunded. The key holder, Jo met us at the apartment at the appointed time and showed us around. The name of the apartment “Admiral's View” is an apt description as there are sea views from every room with the water just a few metres away from the ground level. You'll feel like an admiral at the head of your fleet. The complex itself is an impressive sight with a towering entry arch and the massive stone buildings. It was once a naval dockyard that was completed around 1833, I believe and named for the then King, William. It must have been a massive place in its day servicing the needs of the Royal Navy. The redevelopment project though seems to have stalled. Some parts – like the Clarence Building where the apartment is located – are completed and other parts are still works in progress or works not yet started. I guess the current economic depression has put paid to many plans, but never mind that, the Clarence is in tip top shape. So really in terms of accommodation there is nothing to complain about. There are no lifts in this building but as it's only on the second floor it isn't too much of a problem to get up the 40 steps or so over two levels. And nowhere would you find a quieter place than this: the only noise you'll hear is the sound of the seagulls flying overhead. If you don't have a car, quickest access to the city is by water taxi which runs every hour on the hr from 10.00am.The trip is pleasant and relaxing, takes about 15 mins and costs £3. The pier is almost at your doorstep. There's a bus stop outside the Yard and the no 34 bus runs into the city on a regular schedule. That also takes about 15 mins. And then there are your legs! From Royal Parade in the city centre, it will take you about 45 mins at a brisk pace to get to the Yard via Union Street. And of course there are always taxis. On Jo's (the key holder and the lady that will meet you at the apartment) recommendation, we used “Need-a-cab” and what an excellent recommendation that was. They're cheap and reliable. For example a ride from outside the front door of the Clarence apartment at the Yard to the train station cost less than £5 and it's always service with a smile from these guys. There are two restaurants just metres from the apartment within the boundaries of the Yard. We ate at Prezzo one eve and enjoyed our Italian meal there. And even though it was a weeknight it was about 80% full and the next door Seco Lounge that had been recommended to us and which was our first choice – was full, so I guess that gives you some indication of the quality! There is a little convenience store called Ferry just outside the Yard where you can get most of your essentials but not far are the larger supermarkets Lidl and Aldi. We had an enjoyable stay at the Admiral's View and everything went off well. Take a good look at the pics that Mike has put up on this site. “The Royal William Yard is a unique place and the apartment was clean, well equipped with excellent sea views.” The apartment is spacious and light and very quiet. There are sea views from all the windows and double doors in the lounge. A great place to watch ships and submarines pass by. There is also a study area with access to the internet and use of a printer. Everything was very clean and the person who met us was very welcoming and helpful.The refurbishment of the buildings is sympathetic to the original character of the old navy victualler's yard but it also has all the modern conveniences that you will need. There are four restaurants/cafes on the site and a water taxi to the Barbican from the harbour. The Cremyll ferry to Mount Edgcombe is also close by. All guaranteed to give you a great holiday. The apartment was very easy to book and the owners genuinely wanted to make sure everything was up to standard. We can't wait to go back. “Comfy and clean” We spent five days in the apartment and felt completely at home. The weather was fantastic so we had to make use of the blinds which took some getting used to. Overall a very interesting place to stay. The apartment is spacious and comfortable and of course the views couldn't be better. Lots of interesting looking restaurants in the complex. We only tried the italian restaurant which was so good we didn't bother going anywhere else. “Admirals View - Wow!!!!!” From the initial enquiry through to the refund of deposit, I couldn't possibly find fault. The information supplied was both thorough and relevant. We'd never been greeted at a rental property before, so Jo was a pleasant surprise and really helpful. The apartment is a complete WOW and really well equipped, the best we've stayed in. The development itself is stunning and sympathically restored to its' former glory. On site we tried The Seco Lounge, The Bakery and The River Cottage Deli and Canteen, all thoroughly recommended. We found the daily ferry really useful to get to the Barbican area of Plymouth at a cost of £3 per person single journey and on the hour. “Geat apartment in fantastic location” The apartment is modern, well equipped and very comfortable. The location is fantasic with views accross the Tamar to Cornwall, great in the evening for 'Sun Downers'. If you want to stay local the public transport be it by ferry or bus is very handy. “View tastic” City sheik on the coast. A fantastic apartment inside Royal William Yard Plymouth, great views and great restaurants on your doorstep. Easy access to Plymouth city centre by bus. “Stunning harbour side apartment provided great base to explore Plymouth” On the second floor of the superbly renovated naval victualling yard, Admiral's view was equipped to a very high standard. Breathtaking views take in Plymouth Sound looking towards the Devonport Dockyard and Cremyll. The owner provided excellent documentation and instructions prior to and at the apartment, and the welcome from Jo was reassuring. Within a few metres are great restaurants. we recommend them all, particularly The Artilliary Tower, just outside the yard. We will return! “Accomodation that is everything they say it is!” My husband and I live and travel on the road and much prefer to book accommodation that can feel like home! Having experienced so much accommodation that really is NOT what they advertised it as .... Admiral's View was a very welcome place to stay. It more than fulfilled every word written on the web page. The owners have done a first class job of equipping the apartment for comfort and enjoyment .. and even work if you need to! We can't wait to go back and stay again. “Superb property , superb views.” This is a luxury apartment in a superb location. Everything you needed was available the views from the windows were amazing and the royal William yard is a lovely place that seems only to be destined to improve as more units are completed. “You will not find a better view in Plymouth.” We had a lovely stay in this superb modern apartment with millionaire views from all the windows! The little balcony was an extra bonus and great for watching the comings and goings of the many varied sea-faring vessels which included a submarine and a Navy warship as well as luxurious yachts! “fabulous apt with superb views” We had a great holiday in your fabulous apt which was much better than we could have hoped for.The apt was beautifully situated and had superb views over the harbour.
