The West Country / Devon region
Plymouth is a City steeped in history, and It has been the home to Colonial Adventurers such as Drake & Darwin and is the place where the Pilgrim Fathers departed from.
Since then Plymouth has grown into a cosmopolitian city where an extrodinary blend of modern city chic meets with this historic seafaring port. There are several places of interest including The Hoe, The Mayflower Steps and The Barbican. You can also expect to find all the modern attractions of a thriving city including great shopping, fine restaurants, excellent theatres and a vibrant night life.
Although there are no beaches in Plymouth, there are many spectacular beaches within a short drive of the City. Here is a selection of the best beaches within the area: Bigbury, Salcombe & Slapton sands in South Devon and Whitsand and Looe just over the Tamar in Cornwall. There are also smaller beaches close by at Bovisand and Wembury. Alternatively, if you do fancy a dip without leaving Plymouth, why not visit the historic Tinside Lido, the open air seawater pool which has been restored to its former glory. It is built in stunning Art Deco style and is situated on the Hoe. The pool is open during summer months.
The Plymouth / Royal William Yard area
The former victualling yard on the banks of the River Tamar was once the supply stores for the Royal Navy, ensuring the ships had sufficient stocks of food and drink. The yard was designed by eminent Victorian engineer Sir John Rennie and was built between 1825 and 1835 and is now a scheduled ancient monument.
It now includes a restaurant as well as an hourly passenger ferry service to/from the Barbican during the summer months (1st May to 30th September in 2011).
Mount Edgcumbe country park is just on the opposite bank of the river Tamar with a frequent passenger ferry connection. There are several National Trust properties with beautiful gardens in the local area - Saltram House, Antony House, Cotehele and Buckland Abbey.
Plymouth itself has the National Marine Aquarium, a large leisure pool, ice rink & event/concert centre at Plymouth Pavilions, the Theatre Royal, cinemas, bowling and a dry ski slope. There are nearby golf courses and for the brave there's the UK's longest zip wire and hovercraft driving at Adrenalin Quarry near Liskeard, PL14 3PJ about a 40minute drive away.
The world famous Eden project is only 40 miles away by car.

The apartment is modern, well equipped and very comfortable. The location is fantasic with views accross the Tamar to Cornwall, great in the evening for 'Sun Downers'. If you want to stay local the public transport be it by ferry or bus is very handy. Also the restaraunt/dining facilities in Royal William Yard are excellent. |

On the second floor of the superbly renovated naval victualling yard, Admiral's view was equipped to a very high standard. Breathtaking views take in Plymouth Sound looking towards the Devonport Dockyard and Cremyll. The owner provided excellent documentation and instructions prior to and at the apartment, and the welcome from Jo was reassuring. Within a few metres are great restaurants. we recommend them all, particularly The Artilliary Tower, just outside the yard. We will return! Response: Thank you for your positive comments and we agree the Artillery Tower restaurant is great. We're glad that you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to seeing you again! |
Guestbook for Admiral's View
"Hi Michael and Bridget,
Just wanted to let you know how much we have enjoyed staying in your lovely apartment. We found it very comfortable and spacious and loved the amazing views. We were so lucky to have such a warm and sunny week and that certainly enhanced the stay even more. Thanks again for the help with the WiFi."
Mrs E.A. April 11
"We couldn't possible think of any suggestions to improve the apartment - it was all perfect!"
Mr & Mrs P.D, April 11
"Hello Mike,
As I indicated earlier, we had a splendid time in your wonderful apartment. Our recent holidays have taken us to holiday-apartments in Holland, Italy, Spain and Belgium. Though each had its own particular charm and, by virtue of their own location and local character, none can be compared to another, we are certain that yours has been the best.
We appreciated its comfortable, tasteful and original decor and furnishing, with the added bonus of a grand-stand view of spectacular sunsets over the Edgecumbe as well as the positively delightful passage of vessels of all types from the humble Cremyll ferry to submarines and huge warships, a mere stone's throw away! The ease of access to the City Centre and the proximity to coastal walk trails added to make the whole setting one for discovery and genuine relaxation in comfort and style!" Mrs N.M. Oct 10
"Mike, Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at your place in Plymouth. The view was phenominal and watching the Navy and other boats was a pleasure. We had marvelous sunsets to watch, too! We had acquainted ourselves with Seco Lounge before we got to your place so it was an added treat to be so close to that restaurant--the staff and food was great.
I hope that in the future we will be able to come back for a visit and stay again. Thanks!" Mrs C.S Sept 10
"We really enjoyed the week in your apartment! The view from the balcony was amazing and we found all the equipement a family with two children needs. There is one thing , I think especially needed by Germans: a good possibilty to make a jug of coffee. And beyond that: Why couldn't our holidays last one week longer?"
Mrs I.K Sept 10. We took the hint and have since added a coffee maker!
"Hi Michael
we had a great time thanks.Hope to stay again next year." Mr M.P Sept 10
"Hello Mike,
Thank you for the return of the security deposit, cheque received today.
Would just like to say we had a lovely break and your apartment truly is beautiful.
Many thanks" Mr & Mrs T.P, Aug 10
"Dear Mike,
I don't think you could improve on anything apart from the weather! We had a great time and the apartment was fabulous. We expect to re-book at some future date." Mr & Mrs A.W, Aug 10
"We loved the apartment you had everything you could possibly need, the handover on arrival was smooth and we were shown how to use the applicances. The views were amazing, the sun shone the whole week. We saw lots of frigates going out on exercise, there was always someting to watch. The food at the cafe and bar were good value for money, especially the breakfasts, and the staff were helpful and friendly. We would recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to just chill out, as its so relaxing, or tour around Dartmoor, Cornwall etc. as it is a good base. HIGHLY RECOMMEND" Mrs M.E, Aug 10
"Hi Mike and Bridget ,we are delighted with the apartment, fabulous views", Mrs C.O, May 10.
