The Brittany / Finistere region
Brittany is almost the perfect tourist destination, because it offers something for everyone. Whether you are after activity, rest, gastronomy, cultural regeneration or just relaxing, Brittany has something to offer you.
All manner of water sports, sailing, canoeing, canal boating & fishing are available. The area is popular with walkers, campers and camper vans, plus, of course, cyclists. Brittany is a low lying country with no road tolls and little if any traffic congestion.
Brittany's moderate climate attracts people from the UK and Ireland because it is warmer, people from Paris because it is more bracing and people from the South in summer escaping excessive heat.
Plouhinec area
The footpaths around Plouhinec lead out into the middle of moors and stones, age old shelters for majestic monuments; as far as the banks of the Goyen, a magnificient river which meanders along Pont-Croix, or else out to the coast, dotted whith long beaches of fine sand punctuated by little creeks.
Surrounded by 8 kms of coastline, Plouhinec draws its strengh from its diversity. One of landscape but also of heritage. In this way coming round a valley, one can stumble upon charming 16 th or 17 th century churches; for exempie St Winoc, an absolute gem entirety restored under the auspices of the County council and the Restauration Committee. One can equally discover sites whose history goes back to the beginning of time; marine grottos marked by the burns of the first fires and protecting archeological riches 500 000 years old.
These are but a few of attractions of the locality which remains nevertheless an important fishing harbour where coastal vessels unload their quality catches daily including line bass fished in the Raz de Sein. The fresh fish and shellfish are then sold by auction in the fish market. Just like the fishermen, the local farmers too are concerned with the quality of their produce with authentic flavour, and cultivate the traditional values in both their products and their welcome.
