Beautifully renovated from old stables, this property is all on the ground floor and meets the needs of the less mobile. There is a comfortable lounge with English (Sky) satellite TV. The dining area has a large farmhouse style table with ample room to seat 8 people. There are two double bedrooms and a twin. The larger double has sufficient space for an extra Z bed/cot if required. Cots and high chairs available on request. There is a family bathroom with separate shower and also a Stannah 'cabine' which is especially adapted for the less mobile and provides a shower, wash basin and toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is also a personal outside eating area with barbecue. The Stables is situated within the grounds of the ancient Manoir de Kerdeven and has full access to its grounds and facilities, straight from the kitchen door.
2015 TOUR DE FRANCE. For cycling enthusiasts the Tour de France is coming close to Kerdeven in 2015. On July 11 the route is from Rennes to Mur de Bretagne (we are 23 kms from Mur de Bretagne) and on 12th July is goes from Vannes to Plumelec.
2015 sees the emptying of the Lac de Guerledan just a short drive away. This is an exceptional event, not to be missed. The last time this was done is about 3 decades ago when the hydro electro dam last needed maintenance. At that time there was great interest in the landscape that was uncovered showing the whole of the community that was swallowed when the valley was flooded, together with 7 of the locks along the Nantes to Brest canal. This year you will be able to walk or cycle along the footpaths and tracks around the lake and also take advantage of guided tours (in a range of languages) that will take place every day during the summer season. These will take you down into the lake area and will cover the history of the lake and the people who lived there, together with some of the legends linked to it.
The Tourist Board tell us that many events related to the emptying of the lake, together with guided tours will be offered throughout the summer of 2015 and we will update this information as it becomes available to us. Because of the emptying of the Lac de Guerledan the manmade beaches around the lake will not be available as usual for swimming and water sports.

In addition to a small personal garden area, guests at The Stables have full access to the grounds of the Manoir.
The swimming pool is fully fenced. It has a shallow end suitable for children, a baby splash area and, at the deep end, a slide. Around the pool is a terrace that is equipped with sun loungers. There is a shower and toilet.
Within the grounds of the Manoir there is a boules court, outdoor table tennis, trampoline and large playing field with goal posts and children's play area with large 'Wendy House.'
The pool is heated from the end of May until September
The Brittany region
First impressions of central Brittany are often ones of relative emptiness. It is often described as similar to Cornwall but without the density of population. Roads tend to be quiet and a pleasure to drive on. The climate is mild and warm, similar to that of the Channel Islands.
The Stables is set in the grounds of the magnificent Manoir de Kerdeven which is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and there are breathtaking views. The Lac de Guerledan is around the size of Windermere and only short drive away. It has two good man made beaches and a range of water sports. The Nantes/Brest canal is close by. It was built at the behest of Bonaparte by local prisoners as a means of transporting supplies to his troops without running the gauntlet of the British Fleet. It is now a beautiful and tranquil setting for many leisure activities.
Local markets are a 'must' to visit, truly authentic without a tourist bauble in sight they offer a wonderful range of local produce (home made bread, pates, charcuterie and much, much more). Try the restaurants the local people use - usually wonderful value for money and invariable using the produce of the area. We are always pleased to discuss which villages have 'fetes' or 'pardons' during your visit. Well worth joining in and often they include an evening meal and perhaps some informal dancing. These are very much family events and children are both welcome and expected. The nearby town of Rostrenen has a choice of supermarkets, restaurants and a weekly market.
The nearby Nantes/Brest canal and its' tow path provide a beautiful backdrop to a range of leisure activities. For example fishing, walking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing. Bicycles and canoes can be hired locally. There is a riding school that provides escorted rides. At Plouguernevel there is a mountain bike trail. Around Kerdeven itself you can enjoy beautiful walks along the quiet tracks and lanes.
The Lac de Guerledan has 2 lovely beaches and also a good range of water sports. There are many opportunities to find out about the history of the region including museums, galleries, chateaux and gardens open to the public. The Abbaye de Bon Repos has been the subject of a restoration project over the last several years, provides a rich tapestry of experiences from the past and, each summer, holds a spectacular Son et Lumiere (including jousting).

This is the perfect spot for a holiday. Good play facilities for children, delightful rural location, yet good supermarkets only a few minutes drive away.
Downsides - geese and chickens roam free most days so the ground can be a bit messy underfoot. Not so bad for adults but a hygene issue with small children.
The pool was not electrically heated to 26' as advised (the heater had broken) so it was 21'/22' - too cold for me!
matreses were a little tired.
Would I go back - probably yes if we wanted to be in this area
