Le Manoir de Kerdeven is a beautifully renovated chateau set in grounds of around 3 acres and built in 1565. The Manoir has 6 bedrooms, 3 double and 3 twin. The two bedroom family suite and 4 other bedrooms have en suite bath or shower rooms. 2 of the double rooms are very large and each has a pair of bunk beds to accommodate a family. There are 2 cots in the Manoir and high chairs are provided on request. A further sofa bed is available for use in the 'Snug' which is curtained off from the banqueting suite and has a shower room adjacent. The living accommodation is comfortably furnished and includes a banqueting hall, large farmhouse style dining kitchen, drawing room and small bar that can be stocked to your order.. There is English Satelite TV and radio in the drawing room and family suite. The kitchen is well equipped. It has a range cooker and American style Fridge/Freezer with ice making facilities. There is a private courtyard and garden/barbecue area for your personal use.

The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region

Central Brittany is a region of outstanding natural beauty. The rolling countryside is reminiscent of Cornwall, but without the density of population. The climate is mild and similar to that of the Channel Islands. At Kerdeven you will be surrounded by the most beautiful views and opportunities for walking. The area is steeped in history and at the heart of the 'Route des Menhirs.' The ancient standing stones that run in a circle around Brittany. The Nantes/Brest canal is in the process of being renovated to provide leisure activities, a far cry from it's origins. Napoleon Bonaparte commissioned it to be built by prisoners from local Goals. It was part of his grand plan to ensure the adequate delivery of food and supplies to his army without running the gauntlet of the British Fleet. It now has shutes over the locks for canoes. The local Abbaye de Bon Repos has been extensively renovated and gives a wonderful insight into local history, it is also the venue for a spectacular Son et Lumiere each summer. Ask us about restaurants, we are able to recommend both places for 'fine dining' and also those the locals use at lunch time. This area is a favourite with French cyclists who use it as a training ground. Many of the major cycling events in France go through the area.

Plouguernevel area

Plouguernevel is a small town just a short drive from Kerdeven. It meets every day needs with a chemist, general corner shop, bar, small workers restaurant and two bakers. Rostrenen is about 10 minutes away and has a good range of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shops. There is also a market each Tuesday and this is definitely worth a visit. Rostrenen, Plouguernevel and surrounding villages have a variety of 'Fetes' throughout the summer months and we will be pleased to talk to you about those occuring during your stay. Although there are opportunities to indulge in many activities during your stay you will also be able to enjoy the peace of truly beautiful countryside on walks or cycle rides right from your door. If visiting in the summer whilst the Son et Lumiere is on at the Abbaye de Bon Repos we will be happy to provide information, it's event not to be missed as least once in a lifetime.

How to get there

The airports at Rennes, Dinard and Brest are all around 80 miles. Ryanair flies from Standsted to Dinard.
Car hire is available from each airport and also the ferry ports. Let us know if you need a contact number.
Brittany Ferries (www.brittanyferries.com) sail to St. Malo (95 miles), Cherbourg (200 miles), Caan (205 miles) and Le Havre (230 miles).
Other ferry operators include LD Lines, P and O and Speedferries. All have web sites. LD Lines and Speedferries generally offer very good value for money.
The nearest Railway station is at Carhaix Plouger, about 20 miles

This is an Ancient Manoir of magnificent proportions and furnished accordingly. There is a small bar off the banqueting hall and we are able to order in for you local draught beers if you wish.
Both the Banqueting Hall and the Drawing Room have wood burning stoves. For off season visits there is central heating.
The kitchen has a farmhouse style table that seats 10 and the banqueting hall seats up to 18
Although there is seating for only 14 in the drawing room, the 'snug' has a sofa bed and 2 armchairs seating another 4 together with a TV and DVD player. This is a totally separate area with heavy curtaining and a shower room off it that also serves as extra accommodation
The family suite comprising of a double room with bunk beds, a separate twin room and bathroom also has a lounge area with satelite TV
Although we supply cots and mattresses, we do not supply cot bedding.

Further details outdoors:
The Manoir has its own small private terrace. In addition there is a part of the garden set aside for your personal use, this includes an outside eating area with barbecue. Within the grounds of the Manoir there is a heated swimming pool which has security fencing, a terrace area with sun loungers, a shower, changing room and toilet. There is a boules court, table tennis, children's play area and trampoline. The playing field offers lots of space and we can provide nets and raquets for informal badminton. Indoor tennis can be arranged at nearby Rostrenen. The Manoir is close to the Nantes/Brest canal which is in the process of being renovated. It provides a beautiful backdrop for walks, cycling, fishing, horse riding and canoeing. Bicycles and canoes can be hired locally and there is a nearby riding stables that escorts rides. There is an off road mountain bike trail at nearby Plouguernevel.

Watersports can be enjoyed at the Lac de Guerledan. This about the size of Windermere and only 10 miles away. It has two good beaches and there are regular boat trips around its perimeter, a table for lunch can be booked on board.

For those who wish to bring dogs the canal towpath provides good walking opportunities, as does the lake at Glomel, about a 10 minute drive, where there is a good footpath with beautiful scenary. There are good walks directly from the Manoir, although these may necessitate using the usually very quiet public lanes around Kerdeven.

The area is not only one of outstanding beauty, it is also steeped in history. We ensure that you have a good range of information available from the local tourist office so that you can plan your visits. There are good restaurants and shops in nearby Rostrenen. We are always happy to book a table for you.

Ferry discounts currently available with Brittany Ferries
Our change over day is usually Sunday, arrivals are 4 p.m. and departures are 10 a.m.
We require a deposit of £200 per week to confirm a booking.
Heating is usually not necessary in the summer months. For those who would like to use the log burners we are able to supply wood at a cost of 15 euros for a full wheelbarrow load.

Conditions

Although we welcome smokers we do ask that they do not smoke in the house or around the swimming pool.
Please contact us for a quotation for corporate events, where more than one cottage is required or for bookings of 4 weeks or more. We are able to take a total of 42 people on site all in twin, double or single rooms. Please go to our web site to check out full facilities.
Our change over day is Sundays during high season, we are able to vary the change over day for off season bookings.

We will hold your booking for 7 days after which a deposit of £200 per week is required to secure it.

Final payment is required 8 weeks before arrival together with refundable £200 security deposit. Security deposit to be returned within 7 days of departure.

There is a small charge for wheelbarrows of wood during the summer months, during cooler periods of the year unlimited wood is available to supplement other heating at a small charge.
