The Brittany region

Brittany has long been a favourite holiday destination for many, with it's granite coastline and endless beaches, Forts, Chateaus and a large collection of historic towns the area is steeped in history and offers a variety of attractions. Alongside this, the area is famous for its seafood, cider and traditional Breton beer.

Saint Malo: Famous walled city just 15minutes away. Originally a pirate town or "Corsaires" (legitimate pirates) with plenty to keep both young and old occupied.

Dinan: Beautiful medieval walled town just 10 minutes away.

Dinard: Elegant seaside resort town founded by the British just 25 minutes away.

Mont Saint Michel: The second most visited monument in France (after the Eiffel Tour) just 40 minutes drive.

Fort La Latte: Medieval fortress/castle: 50mins

Cancale: Fishing village well known for its oysters just 25 minutes.

Rennes: Lively city of 250,000 people. The capital of Brittany - 45mins.

Fougeres: Huge medieval fortress - 1&1/2 hours

Pleudihen is close to many main routes- Caen-Brest highway and St Malo-Rennes.

Pleudihen-Sur-Rance

Along the river Rance, Pleudihen-sur-Rance is a peaceful and tranquil place where "the plough and the Doris are a stone's throw" said Chateaubriand. The Doris is the traditional boat of the Rance which was used for cod-fishing in Newfoundland.

Enjoy the beach at Mordreuc, the hiking in the Val Hervelin or the country trails that lead to other villages and hamlets along the Rance - La Ville Ger, Le Bas Champs, La Chapelle de Mordreuc

The Rance Valley has always been known for its variety of apples and the quality of its cider. The nearby Cider Museum shows the traditional methods of cider making and you can taste (dégust) their ciders, whilst the modern and large cider production, Val de Rance, has sales from their cellar door.

"Great place to stay for an idyllic slice of Brittany"

We (a family of four with two girls aged six and eight) stayed here for a week in the glorious Summer of 2013. We enjoyed every minute, everything was faultless.

From the outside, this place is like that ideal image of a French rural cottage you have inside your head. The photos really don't do justice to its charm, from the resident goats to the cidre press!

From the inside though, this an ultra-modern holiday house, although it does retain features that hint as its former life as a barn. It has been finished to a high standard and has every mod-con you would need (including a very well-equipped kitchen).

As mentioned in the other reviews, there are many places of interest in local and wider area. St. Malo, Dinan, Dinard and Mont St. Michel are all within easy driving distance, and even closer (a 10 minute walk) is the neighbouring village that has a small beach with a permanently resident seal!

As a rule, we do our best to venture into areas that we have never visited before when planning a holiday. But rules are made to be broken! We definitely hope to revisit Brittany in the future, and to stay again at Les Gites de la Touche.

"Lovely tranquil gite, an ideal base for touring"

The gite was spacious and airy and in a lovely setting just outside the village. It has been recently tasefully refurbished and is well equipped with all mod cons; the owner was very helpful in providing a baby bath and cot for our stay. Its in an ideal location for visiting the local tourist areas; St Malo, Dinan, Dinard, etc all within easy driving distance. We had a lovely week here and Kate was really amenable both before we arrived, and during our stay, even lending us toys for our daughter to play with whilst we were there. We would definitely like to stay here again.

"Beautiful, clean, modern and yet still cosy, what a place to stay!"

Staying in Le Chanvril Gite was a week of complete bliss.

The cottage was beautifully decorated and very modern with all the things you'd expect to make holiday life as easy as possible (dishwasher, washing machine etc) Even little touches like good quality sheets, comfy beds and fluffy towels made it such a lovely experience and gave us both the chance to fully relax away from the stress of jobs and busy lives in the UK.

The gite was close to local towns, we visited Dinan and saw an art and sculpture exhibition as well as St Malo, Dinard and various others for long lunches and the odd bit of sightseeing! We enjoyed strolling down to the beach at Mordreuc from the Gite in the evening as well as many trips to other beaches and even a giant Fort. The local village has a fabulous boulangerie which kept us supplied with tasty breakfasts and the supermarket was very near too.

Kate was really quick at responding to emails during the booking process and very welcoming on our arrival, the directions to find the property were excellent (always a relief when you're tired and trying to navigate abroad!). She and Marc were particularly helpful when we asked for restaurant recommendations and the odd directions to places, thank you both for making our stay so enjoyable!
