About this location
The Dordogne region
The Perigord Noir region is is renowned for its beauty, tranquility, pre history, foods and of course world famous wines. The Dordogne river flows from the east directly through the area culminating in Bordeaux, where it meets the Gironde and the Atlantic Ocean.
Specific attractions such as castles, chateaux and gardens can be visited all over the region with Beynac, Castlenaud and Marqueyssac close by. Towns and villages abound with each highlighting the charm and beauty of the area and include, Perigeuex, Bergerac, Sarlat, Montignac close by with Rocamadour, Conques and Collanges la Rouge a little further afield. A wander through any of these, stopping for a coffee or a glass of wine, lunch or dinner will enhance any day. Alternatively, the caves and surrounding prehistoric sites could easily form the basis of a week's exploration within the area.
The house sits on a hill above the small village of Plazac. The surrounding area is rural, with localised agriculture, but mainly planted as forest and worked accordingly.
The two largest rivers, the Doprdogne and the Vezere dominate the area and are central to most visits within the department.
The immediate area around the house lends itself to walking and cycling, with a great number of quiet lanes, roads and footpaths to explore. The rivers cater for canoeing, safe and exhilerating wild swimming and fishing (in season).
