The Isla Margarita region
Margarita is a Caribbean island of the coast of Venezuela, to the Northeast of Caracas, the country's capital. Margarita is really two islands joined in the middle by a stretch of sand, mangrove, and marsh. The western side, called the Peninsula de Macanao, is largely undeveloped and is home to the endemic yellow-headed and yellow-shouldered Margaritan parrot.
Margarita is a great place to visit with plenty to see and do. It has beautiful churches, ancient castles and fabulous natural sites which truly make it 'A pearl in the Caribbean'.
Quite close to La Casa Amarilla is Porlamar which is the largest city on the island. Porlamar is a Free Port and is a hub of cultural activities, shopping and nightlife.
One of Margarita's most beautiful attractions is the Lagoon of La Restinga National Park where you can ride in a boat through the mangroves and reach a very long beach. Do not miss the opportunity to have fish or seafood for lunch under a hut.
Margarita's climate is hot and tropical, with ample sunshine and very little rainfall year-round. You're most likely to encounter some rain during the months of July and August and between November and January.
Playa Guacuco area
5 minutes walk from La Casa Amarilla lies Playa Guacuco. The beach is situated on the eastern coast of Margarita island and stretches for about 5Km. It's a family-friendly beach with gentle waves lined by palm trees.
The beach gets its name from the 'Guacuco' or clams that are easily found in the shallow waters
Along the beach there are parasols and chairs available to rent and a number of comfortable beach-side restaurants where you can sample fresh local cuisine. We are able reccommend a number of bars and restaurants in the area surrounding Playa Guacuco, which you might like to try while on holiday at Casa Amarilla.
How to get there
Margarita international airport is only half an hour drive ,by car (which may be rented) or taxi, from La Casa Amarilla with flights in and out once every twoo weeks direct to London Gatwick.
Alternativly flights from France, Germany, Holland Italy Spain and Portugal are available to caracus with the option of taking an internal flight to Margarita. Another option is to fly into Caracas and take an internal flight to Margarita, Porlamar (flights about every 2 hours).
