The Tenerife region
Tenerife has something for everyone, diverse landscape, plenty of activities, excellent local cuisine. Costa Adeje / Las Americas is ideally situated for water sports, animal parks, Water Park, Siam Park, shopping, walking, relaxing on one of the many sandy beaches. Whatever you want from your holiday, you will find it in Tenerife.
With its year round temperate climate, Tenerife offers a wide rang of outdoor activities. Most places are easily accessible by car, tourist coach trips or a very reliable public transport system.
DIVING- The island and its surrounding waters offer some of the most popular dive sites in the world. The majority of dive centres operate from Las Galletas (20 minute drive from Los Cristianos) offering beginner courses to dive master with equipment for hire if required.
www.atlanticdivers.com contact Geoff or Kerry
FISHING- Big game fishing is also popular along the South Coast – boats may be hired and trips organised from Los Gigantes, Playa San Juan, Las Galletas and Los Cristianos.
WINDSURFING- El Medano on the South Coast provides the best conditions for windsurfing on the Island and is considered to be one of the world’s top ten venues for the sport. Equipment may be hired from the Playa Sur Tenerife Hotel.
HANG GLIDING- Courses are available for beginners and the more experienced.
WHALE and DOLPHIN watching- There’s no shortage of companies on the South Coast offering whale and dolphin watching trips. For the more adventurous, some will arrange for you to swim from the boat and snorkel. www.tenerifedolphin.com
HORSE and CAMEL rides- There are a number of centres offering Horse, Camel and Donkey rides at reasonable prices catering for all ages.
GOLF - There are five championship golf courses all within 20 minutes drive. Green fees range from €50 to €110 for 18 holes dependent on time and season.
LA GOMERA - Fred Olsen ferries travel daily to the beautiful island of La Gomera and a coach trip can be organised to show you the sights www.fredolsen.es
The following websites offer useful up-to-date information about Tenerife: www.tenerifenews.com
Playa de Las Americas / Torviscas Alto area
This quiet, modern and airy apartment is situated in the Torviscas Alto area of Costa Adeje. The playa is a 16 mins walk.Taking a slightly different route and travelling 20 mins you will arrive at the marina, Puerto Colon. SIAM PARK is only a 5 euro taxi ride away.
San Eugenio Commerical Centre has perfume, alcohol, tobacco, watches, jewellery, cameras and souvenirs shops.Bargain hunters love the market which is on twice weekly and is about a 15 min walk.
Costa Adeje is the ideal location for the more decering holidaymaker. You can walk on the long sandy beaches, chill by the very quiet pools on the complex, shop until you drop or party all night long at bar such as the Moonlight (Non Smoking) and O'Riellys.
Balcon del Atlantico is a residential complex far enough out of Las Americas to be peaceful but close enough to it to enjoy its excitement and vibrancy if you wish to experience it. The complex has its own small shop, video store and bar that sells snacks. Local restaurants and bars are just a short walk away.
Balcon Del Atlantico is actually in Torviscas Alto - just up the hill from Torviscas.RELAX all day by the pool you will not need a car but if you want to explore everyday it would make sense to hire a small car during your stay.
What is currently available within walking distance of the apartment and also some ideas of what else is available in the area is listed below.
The complex has two fantastic pools that catch the sun for most of the day – they are not heated but warmed to a nice temperature by the sun. The nearest beach is approximately 15 minutes walk down the hill.
SHOPS – There are four small supermarkets within walking distance of the apartment that sell all the essentials you will need for your stay. The main one is Netto at the bottom of the hill on the left and there is another further down on the right next to Villa Tagoro. The third is within the Paradise club opposite – if you begin to walk down the hill you will see the entrance on the left and the supermarket is on the left. The closest is next to the local bar – On the same level walk so that you cross the road and continue to the 2nd pool area then go down a slope to the left and left again there is a little supermarket there to get you started, they are all a little expensive and if you have a car it would be worth a trip to one of the nearby hypermarkets such as HyperTrebbol or Hyper Dino just past Adeje, to stock up with non-perishable goods.
If you walk down the hill and over the bridge you will come to a traffic Island outside PARQUE ROYALE apartments( this is a good reference point to ask to be dropped of by taxi as it is by a rank and nowhere is to far to walk from here, usually 4 euro from complex)
RESTAURANTS AND BARS – There are plenty of places to eat within a ten minute walk of the apartment and many more if you wish to explore further. We have listed a few that we have tried and can recommend to get you started.
BAR TASCA is up Calle Austurias under the second pool and is run by Emma.It is small with a friendly atmosphere and serves snacks during the day.
CLUB LA COSTA ( Paradise Club) – Walk out the complex, across the road and down the stairs of the opposite complex and there are two restaurants and a bar. One of the restaurants is part of the complex and a little more upmarket and the other is a stand alone business that serves good food at sensible prices. The bar is lively and has live entertainment most evenings.
PHUKET- At the bottom of the hill in the same commercial area as Netto is a good but expensive Thai restaurant for dine in meals or take away.
PIZZA TAXI- Near Phuket has great mexican meat balls and of course pizza with the added bonus of free WIFi
PIKEN– Opposite the Phuket is a fine Chinese restaurant again for sit in meals or take away.
EL REODEO, bottom of the hill turn right before the TF1 and it is on your right, this is a carvery with a difference, they bring you meat until you tell them to stop by flipping a card your given from green to red. The meat is all cooked in clay ovens or bbq's, Chicken, Pork, Beef all cooked in a different way. My advice is to take your time and a little of each.
If you fancy a bit of a stroll you have lots of options but as two suggestions; you can walk over the bridge at the bottom of the hill and head into Torviscas – we recommend turning right at Parque Royale and heading to the beach at Fanabe. Alternatively you can turn left before the bridge, walk along the road that runs parallel to the TF1 and cross the next bridge. There are loads of bars and restaurants along that road.
GOLF – If you have a car there are two courses within ten minutes drive and a further three elsewhere on the island. We have been told that Golf Adeje is the best and also the least expensive.
For those who wish to explore you may either hire a car (Autoriesen) and make your own way or book an excursion with one of the many company’s that organise them from the streets of Los Cristianos or Las Americas. Here are a few examples:
PARQUE LAS AGUILAS– A Jungle Park that offers all the usual attractions of a wildlife park and can be found just outside Los Cristianos. The bird show is fantastic.
AQUALAND – A Water park and Dolphinarium is only a short taxi journey cost about 5 euros.www.aqualand.es
TENERIFE PEARL has an exhibition and workshop that can turn a pearl of your choice into a unique piece of jewellery. It can be found at the end of the TF1 at Armenime and is service from free buses that pick up from various locations.
For the more adventurous THE QUAD PARK offers 200,000m2 of rustic terrain for quad bike fun. www.thequadpark.com
LORO PARQUE is another wildlife park and has some of the best animal shows in the world. It is located on the otherside of island and is a wonderful days experience – it is located near Puerto de la Cruz but apparently well worth the trip.www.loroparque.com/
SIAM PARK is the latest attraction and is well worth a visit check it out on youtube
Sea fishing, Sailing and Dolphin/Whale watching – There are numerous companies offering excursions of varying length from the ports near Los Cristianos and Las Americas.
SCUBA DIVING – Geoff and Kerry offer diving excursions and courses for all ages/abilities www.Atlanticdivers.com/
There is an excellent bus service. The following website will provide useful information on other routes and services. www.titsa.com
How to get there
The accommodation is only 15 minutes drive from Reina Sofia Airport and taxis are readily available, however, if hiring a car you should take the exit from the airport in the direction of Los Cristianos. Follow on the TF1 motorway for about 15/20 minutes and take exit 30 "salida 30" in the direction of Torviscas Alto.Take the 3rd exit from the roundabout , continue up the hill for around 800 metres till you reach a roundabout turn right and the complex is on the left hand side. Follow road up till Calle 4 and turn left and park anywhere.
Being within 4 hours flying time from the South of England there's a good selection of flights from all the UK major airports.
