Situated on the north west Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the area around Conchal epitomises the heart of the Guanacaste region. With a drier climate than most of the country, the region retains much of its ranching culture. The Guanacaste region
Escape Vacation Villas offers Beachfront Vacation Rentals In Guanacaste Costa Rica.
Long summer days and beautiful beaches are two phrases that best define what Guanacaste is all about. A province for the active soul, Guanacaste draws visitors with its stunning shoreline, incredible bird watching, amazing horseback riding, excellent surfing, superb snorkeling and wonderful mountain lake windsurfing. With so much to do, it’s easy to understand why so many people come to visit this amazing province.
A region steep in culture, the name Guanacaste is derived from the word quahnacaztlan, which is a native word for the guanacaste tree. This tree is the national tree of Costa Rica.
Forming the eastern borders of Guanacaste are a chain of volcanoes that stretch out to join the Cordillera de Guanacaste and Cordillera de Tilaran mountain ranges. Offering some truly terrific hiking facilities, tourists can trek their way to the summit of a number of volcanoes, including Rincon de la Vieja Volcano Area, to enjoy some really breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Passing through lovely lush dense forests, which play host to a fabulous array of exotic plant and wildlife, many rare and endangered animals and birds live here including jaguars and tapirs. From these mountains also flow various rivers that roll down to form an alluvial plain drained by the Rio Tempisque. This river in turns nurtures the province before emptying itself into the Golfo de Nicoya.
One of the easiest ways to get to Guanacaste is to fly into the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. A major reason why tourism has boomed in this region, this airport receives flights from all over the world especially the continental U.S. Most sites of this region are off the Pan-American Highway (Hwy. 1), which is scenic in its own right, moving northwest through Guanacaste and continuing almost to the Nicaraguan border. If you are traveling by bus, make sure to sit on the right hand side when northward bound as the views of the volcanoes in the distance are quite superb.

The Playa Conchal area
Playa Conchal Costa Rica is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Unlike many Costa Rican beaches, Playa Conchal features powdery white sand which, upon closer investigation, is actually formed by millions of crushed shells.
The beach itself is not that long, but is a nice-sized stretch for strolling or running as you enjoy the peaceful sound of the calm waves hitting shore. On the north end of the beach, the shells become larger and you can really find some unique, intact, and colorful shells as souvenirs! The beach on this north end eventually gives way to warm tide pools amidst the rocks…the more adventuresome can actually climb out on the rocks or cross over them to access other more remote beaches such as Brasilito and Portrero.
The other outstanding feature of Playa Conchal is the calm water which is a radiant shade of blue. Perfect for swimming and snorkeling, the waters are excellent for families with children. Occasionally the waves will attract surfers; however, Conchal is not necessarily known for its great surf (travel to nearby Playa Tamarindo, Playa Langosta, or Playa Grande for much better waves).
Accommodations at Playa Conchal are somewhat limited. Most people visit Conchal for the day while staying at nearby Tamarindo Beach where hotels are plentiful for all budget ranges. However, if you want the convenience of staying right at Conchal, and are willing to treat yourself to a luxury experience, the 5-start Paradisus Playa Conchal all-inclusive resort and Reserva Conchal condominiums and beach club are a fabulous option and highly recommended. Now the Westin is managing the beautiful 5 stars hotel. There is also the famous , the Robert trent Jones II Garra de Leon golf course.
This 18-hole golf course, meticulously designed by the renowned Robert Trent Jones II, delivers sheer relaxation and spectacular fun for golfers of all levels. Whether it´s your first time golfing or even if you´ve been golfing for years, the course guarantees a fantastic play for everyone!
Surrounded by the luscious greens and the striking blues of the Pacific Ocean, the scenery of the course is enough to keep you entertained. Aside from the captivating surroundings, the 6,956 yards par 71 championship golf course is one of the best of the region. Since its inauguration in 1996, the course has provided golf aficionados with an extraordinary eco-golf experience. In fact, Audubon International (www.auduboninternational.org) has recognized our dedication, making this course the first one in Costa Rica to be certified by this prestigious eco award. This recognizes the respect and responsibility the Reserva Conchal Golf course shows for the environment.
The golf course itself consists of elevations from tee to green that are very unique. The forest that surrounds the greens is extravagant, and the tee shots are covered by sand traps and lakes. Notable players who have taken a swing here are Jasper Parnevick, David Leadbetter, Hale Irwin, etc. However, this should not make you feel intimidated!
Some great pointers to keep in mind are to check the yardage book before you tee off and play very conservatively. The par 4s are long and uphill, which means that you might lose one or two clubs distance due to the elevations and sea level. We also recommend practicing the sand traps before you start because we have 63 of them throughout. In hole #7 alone, we have 13 traps!
The number one tip that we can give, however, is to enjoy the views, the surrounding nature and have fun with your game! Take your time and soak in the forest and wildlife around you. Check our vacation packages or send an email to info@escapevacationvillas.com
