The El Cibao / Amber Coast / Puerto Plata region

The Dominican Republic is a country of green jungles, luscious white beaches and historical architecture some going back to the days of Columbus who described The Dominican Republic as “the fairest land under heaven”.

Puerto Plata is the largest city on the North coast (the so-called amber coast) established in the year 1502. The San Felipe fortress is considered the oldest on the American continent.

The airport at Puerto Plata is approximately 40 minutes away by car. (Complimentary air-conditioned airport transfers are included).

The Dominican Republic is a tropical country, with 300 days of sunshine a year. Average temperatures are around 25C/77F on the coast, rising to 30C/86F and above from June to October. So the breeze coming in off the Atlantic Ocean is natural air-conditioning!

Cofresi beach is one of the most breathtaking beaches in the Dominican Republic, named after the legendary

Catch the cable car from Puerto Plata going up 800 metres to the top of Mount Isabel del Torres. The dramatic views over the Atlantic Ocean and Puerto Plata are breathtaking! You can also explore the beautiful botanical gardens, which are part of the National Park.

How to get there

Flight time to Puerto Plata airport is approx 9hrs 15 minutes from the UK. Thomsons and Thomas Cook offer regular flights from all major UK airports.

Complimentary air-conditioned transfers to/from the resort are available for VIP guests from Puerto Plata airport (approx 40 mins). There is a local charge for transfers from other airports.
