The Lanzarote region
Lanzarote is one of the most easterly of the Canary Islands and lies just seventy miles of the coast of Saharan Africa.It has an enviable year round climate that is characterised by extremely low rainfall and temperatures that rarely fall below 20 degrees, even in the winter months. As a result the island is a popular holiday destination all year round. Today,
Lanzarote is best known as "The Island of Fire" as a result of the world's largest ever volcanic eruption and has given the landscape a "lunar like" appearance. For such a small island, Lanzarote is big on attractions, offering visitors more than just beautiful beaches and volcanic vistas.
Playa Blanca / Costa Papagayo area
Playa Blanca is the southernmost of the island's major resorts and has grown significantly beyond its origins as a small fishing village. The resort still revolves around the fishing village which is home to the small but attractive beach of Playa Blanca from which the resort gets its name. The beach is backed by an attractive promenade with a variety of restaurants, coffee shops and bars.
To the east of the centre is Playa Dorada, which is the nearest beach to the villa, and this is a perfect place for catching the sun. Next to Playa Dorada is the Papagayo Commercial Centre which houses a variety of shops, bars and restaurants.
Further eastwards along the promenade is the Marina. This is a relatively new attraction to Playa Blanca and has a selection of waterfront coffee bars and restaurants to suit most culinary and quaffing preferences. Behind the waterfront are a number of designer outlets and boutiques, and there is a market twice a week for local crafts & ornaments.
For families, there are several playgrounds for the kids in town. In the Las Coloradas area, the playground is adjacent to a coffee shop with shaded outdoor seating so you can chill in the shade while the kids are playing. The villa is also conveniently located for a trip to kikoland - a large family fun centre.
It's also possible to walk from Las Coloradas to the world famous Papagayo Beaches, although the furthest, and nicest, are probably best accessed by car (or water taxi from the harbour).
Westward from town, past the harbour, is Punta Limones, where there is a bike hire service, and the resorts second beach – Playa Flamingo. The promenade goes on to the lighthouse at Faro Park and stops eventually at the Atlantic Ocean!
From the promenade you can look across to Fuerteventura and you can also see the small Island of Isla de Lobos. Ferries cross to Fuerteventura several times a day from Playa Blanca’s main harbour and it is an enjoyable day excursion.
How to get there
Travelling to Lanzarote is relatively easy and most package tour operators offer seat only flights. Thomas Cook, Thomsonfly, First Choice, Monarch and Easyjet all fly to Lanzarote.
If you are travelling from Ireland Budget Travel and Holidays Online offer good deals in seat only flights. Aer Lingus also has flights from Dublin and Cork.
For car hire we recommend Autoreisen, they have an on-line booking system and we have always found them reliable and reasonably priced.
Playa Blanca is approx. 30 minutes drive from the airport. Parking is free in Playa Blanca and driving is recommended to see the island.
If you are using a taxi we can email the directions to you in Spanish. A taxi from the airport to the villa will cost €35-40.

Further details indoors: Villa Keira is furnished to a high standard and you will find everything you need here for an enjoyable relaxing stay from the moment you arrive including a complimentary bottle of wine, a welcome pack and water chilling in the fridge.
The large lounge has two spacious sofas to relax on and a variety of entertainment including a large TV with a small selection of Sky channels (which you can enhance if you bring your own card) and a selection of DVDs. The CD player will play your own CDs and is MP3 compatible (you will need to bring your own lead). We've fitted ceiling fans to keep you cool.
The dining area has seating for six and is backed with a feature wall.
This spacious villa will sleep 4 and has two bedrooms with built in ceiling fans. The master bedroom has a large king-size bed with bedside cabinets and fitted wardrobes. A small safe has been installed for your valuables. The bedroom is equipped with French doors with shutters leading out onto the patio area.
The en suite bathroom is equipped with a full size bath with a glass shower panel and twin marble sinks with lovely marble detailing. Inside the second bedroom are two single beds with wardrobes and a shared bedside cabinet. The main bathroom has a spacious powerful shower.
The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances including a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, oven and hob. A separate utility room houses the washing machine and a clothes airer. Naturally all towels and linen (except for the cot) are included and the towels are changed midweek.
The villa is especially suited to families with young children and is equipped with a high chair available, steriliser, plenty of plastic bowls cups and plates and a fold out cot. (You will need to bring your own bedding for the cot).
Further details outdoors: The villa has an extensive sun terrace with comfortable sun loungers, a custom built BBQ with an outdoor sink and an outdoor dining area which seats six. The pergola is partially shaded for those hot sunny days. Our private heated pool has easy access with Roman style steps. Pool toys and inflatables are provided. An outdoor shower is also available for your convenience.
The garden is landscaped and has Canarian style planting. A large area has been astroturfed which makes it ideal for children to play and relax in while the adults are dining "al fresco" or relaxing on the sun loungers.
At the side of the villa, there is an outdoor hot tub which seats five adults and is enclosed by a circular volcanic wall to ensure your privacy. There is also a roof terrace for the serious sun worshippers.

Conditions
A 25% non returnable deposit is payable to secure a booking and the balance must be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. For bookings within 8 weeks of departure, the full payment is required. Full terms and conditions are shown on the owners website.
The price is based on four persons per week and it includes pool heating during the winter months.
We give a £50 discount to a couple using the villa.
We also welcome last minute enquiries and may be able to help with larger family groups who wish to stay nearby.
The use of the hot tub is an additional £60 per week and is an optional extra.
Smoking is not permitted inside the villa.
