The Lanzarote region

The Island of Lanzarote is situated just 100km off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands and only 60km long and 20 km wide, making it the fourth largest of the Canary island.
Lanzarote has a mild dry climate with average temperatures throughout the year between 21 and 29 degrees and the normal water temperature of the Atlantic Ocean ranges between 19 degrees in winter and 23 degrees in summer and autumn. Annual rainfall is just 140mm (5.5 inches). This makes Lanzarote the perfect year-round destination for water sport or just relaxing in the sun by the pool.
The island of Lanzarote is the most unusual and surprising in the Canary Island archipelago. The island offers the visitor a wide variety of landscapes and attractions. Declared a Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO in 1993, Lanzarote is made up of particularly beautiful landscapes.
A real must for the visitor are the art and culture centres, scattered all over the island. Mostly built by the famous Lanzarote artist, César Manrique, who was an expert in highlighting and conserving the charm and temperament of the island. They are a fascinating amalgamation of natural beauty and intelligent architecture.
Despite the volcanic nature of the island, Lanzarote has several beautiful golden sandy beaches such as Playa Blanca, Playa Dorada and the collection of beaches at Papagayo, all of which are near the villa.
The Playa Blanca / Villas Del Sur area
The Marina Rubicón, is the main focal point of the area and offers many opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment. The facilities available, offer every possibility to enjoy the sea, sun and atmosphere around the harbour. Sign up for a fantastic trip on a catamaran, rent a kayak to explore the coast, relax beside the pool, or just, browse in the boutiques, shops and art gallery along the promenade around the harbour.
The marina has 400 moorings and berths, a sailing and diving school and the waterfront area is surrounded by a selection of luxury shops, galleries, exquisite restaurants and lively waterfront bars - all of which are based on the typical architecture of Lanzarote.
The area surrounding the villa also offers many more interesting things to do and places to visit.
* The coastal promenade starts near the villa at the El Pueblo shopping centre at Las Colorades and runs for nearly 9 kilometres passing by the Marina Rubicón, Playa Dorada and Playa Blanca beaches with their seafront restaurants, the old harbour with its ferry terminal to Fuerteventura, Playa Flamingo beach and onwards to the lighthouse on the south western tip of Lanzarote at Faro de Pechiguera.
* The coastal promenade is perfect for fitness enthusiasts wanting to keep in shape or for the more relaxed holidaymaker, just having a pleasant stroll and enjoying the spectacular sea and mountain views.
* The area borders the Papagayo National Park with its coastal walks and world famous natural golden sandy beaches.
*Go snorkelling off the secluded beaches at Papagayo or sunbathe on the more traditional holiday beach at Playa Dorada, with its refreshment facilities nearby.
* The Timanfaya National Park (Fire Mountain) is also close by, with its impressive volcanoes and lava fields.
* Playa Blanca old harbour is the ferry port to Fuerteventura. There are two companies providing service; Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas. If you are here in Playa Blanca for any length of time, a day trip to Fuerteventura and the town of Corralejo is highly recommended.
* Twice weekly craft market (Wednesday & Saturday 9 – 2pm) at the Marina creates a lively holiday atmosphere.
* Lanzarote boasts an abundance of unique fiestas and festivals that are well worth visiting, virtually all of these events are religious in origin – but you don´t have to be religious to get involved and these come second only to Fiesta in Rio in South America.
* New Year in Lanzarote is fun, easy-going and tradition-related. On New Year’s Eve, an occasion even more celebrated than Christmas, Lanzaroteños count every stroke of midnight while drinking cava, the local version for champagne, and eat 12 grapes.
* Public Transport - Recently, a new (hop-on / hop–off) bus service was introduced that operates across Playa Blanca, linking Las Colorades in the east to Faro de Pechiguera in the west. The service operates twice every hour from Villas Del Sur.

We have stayed in many houses in France, Italy and Portugal but this villa is simply the best! It is so nice that it takes a major effort to actually leave it. However, the location is so good with supermarket within 2 minutes, restaurants at marina 15 minute walk, half hourly bus service to main resort 2 minutes walk. I cannot recommend this property highly enough! Response: We are delighted that you rate our villa so highly in comparison with your villa experiences elsewhere in Europe and that the villa and the location offers the amenities necessary for a relaxing holiday. Look forward to having you back at the villa in the near future Many thanks & Kind regards Andrea & George |

The villa is in a quiet cul de sac, with a supermarket close at hand. The local bus is very convenient, with half-hourly services to Playa Blanca, leaving from the crossroads nearby. About 20 mins away is Marina Rubicon, an upmarket facility with posh shops and nice restaurants overlooking the marina. Playa Blanca town is about an hour's walking or 10mins. by bus. It is full of shops of all sorts and many restaurants and cafes. There are lots of tourist outlets in the streets and along the seafront, and a couple of sandy beaches. The ferries and excursion boats leave from the nearby harbour, for Fuerteventura and local beaches at Papagayo. Altogether, a relaxing spot, where local folks are very pleasant and friendly. Response: Thank you so much for the excellent review comments. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the amenities of Playa Blanca and that Villa Saskia provided you with all the facilities necessary for a relaxing holiday. Look forward to having you back at the villa in the near future Many thanks & Kind regards Andrea & George |

This was our first visit to Villa Saskia and it will definitely not be our last! This accommodation was outstanding in every way - luxuriously furnished and extensively equipped throughout - we lacked nothing! From our first contact with Andrea and George, we were made to feel most welcome - part of the family. Communication was excellent, information was more than comprehensive - both before travelling and at the villa we were kept fully informed about everything necessary for a superb holiday, from maps to activity ideas, local information - you name it and it was there! Location-wise, the villa suited us admirably; it is only a few minutes drive, by taxi or local bus, from the centre of everything in Playa Blanca, yet was quiet and peaceful when we got 'home'. There are two excellent supermarkets near the villa, one being only two minutes walk away and the Marina only 10 to 15 minutes stroll along the beautiful coastal path. This was our second visit to Lanzarote and we have fallen in love with the island. We will be back and the only place we will be staying is in Villa Saskia!! Thank you, Andrea and George for letting us use your beautiful home in Playa Blanca - expect a call soon to re-book! Ian, Muriel, Carol and Wilson. Response: Thank you so much Ian, Muriel, Carol and Wilson for your positive comments and we are delighted that Villa Saskia features so highly in your recommendations and that you really enjoyed your stay at villa. Lanzarote has such a lot to offer visitors and the sea views and tranquillity of Playa Blanca is very appealing. We look forward to welcoming you all back to Villa Saskia next year. |
