The Lanzarote region
Lanzarote is situated just 79 miles off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. The island is 37 miles (60km) long and 12 miles (20 km) wide, making it the fourth largest island in the Canaries.
Lanzarote enjoys a mild dry climate with average daytime temperatures ranging from about 21°C in January to 29°C in August. Annual rainfall is just 140mm (5.5 inches). This makes Lanzarote the perfect year-round destination.
As with the other Canary Islands, Lanzarote is Volcanic in origin. Due to the recent eruptions during the 18th and 19th Centuries, many parts of Lanzarote appear to be from another world, often described as 'lunar' or 'Martian'. The dry climate (and lack of erosion) means that the Volcanic Landscape appears much as it did just after the eruptions.
Amongst the many stunning Volcanic features of Lanzarote is the longest Volcanic Tunnel in the world, the Atlantida Tunnel, which is over 7 km long and includes the La Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua.
Despite the Volcanic nature of the island, Lanzarote has several beautiful white beaches such as at Playa Blanca and Papagayo.
Local authority regulations on the amount and style of development mean that there is no billboard advertising and no high rise buildings in Lanzarote (with the exception of the Grand Hotel in Arrecife).
Playa Blanca / Faro Park area
There are many activities on offer, from Camel riding and Tapas bars to Spanish linguistics-what ever your fancy, you’ll find something here.
Why not start at the promenade, which extends for a staggering 3 miles and bonds both sides of the resort, giving the best opportunity to take in the various sea fronts of Playa Blanca, not to mention the superb Ocean views across the Bocaina Straits to Fuerteventura.
Playa Blanca is renowned for its various awe-inspiring golden and black sandy beaches. The very name ‘Playa Blanca’ itself means “White beach” which supports the fact that we are not the only ones who think the beaches here are breathtakingly memorable.
As you can probably already tell, Playa Blanca is more Tranquil and sophisticated then its brothering Cities, Puerto Del Carmen, Arrecife and Costa Teguise.
Timanfaya National Park (Parque Nacional of Timanfaya) is an amazing piece of history that has miraculously transformed into a unique sight. The parkland is made entirely of volcanic soil and at a depth of only 13 meteres can reach a temeprature of 600ºC; water is poured into the ground creating a geyser of steam, a thrilling specticle amongst all toursists! You can also enjoy the restaurant (where the food is cooked on the heat of the volcano!) souvenir shop and secure parking, for under 10 euros.
The Marina Rubicon is an exclusive chic and glamorous Haven located in Playa Blanca. This ocean side development offers a range of shops, bars and attractions, so why not partake in a voyage on the “Rubicat”, a sample of the good life! Aboard this luxurious Catamaran you’ll sail to Papagayo where you can then enjoy snorkeling and jet skiing in the crystal waters or indulge in fine served food and drink. No? Then why not take a trip to “La Ermita” an art gallery designed in the likeness of a traditional small island church and hosts a number of exhibitions in a beautifully serene and soothing ambiance.
Want more? How about Car, Bike and Quad hire, various excursions, submarine trips, diving lessons, fishing gear and much more.
There are also more restaurants around Playa Blanca than you could ever visit in one trip, but that’s ok…we’re pretty sure that you’ll want to return! Faro Park is a 5 minute drive from Playa Blanca, and is a select residential area. it is situated near to the sea which has a lovely rocky shoreline. The villas are all detached and have generous plots. There are 3 bars 3 restaurants 2 supermarkets , a bakery and a lovely French cafe bar.
