Enquire nowThe Lanzarote region
Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands found off the west coast of Africa and 1000km south of mainland Spain. The island is 80km long and 40km wide. It has a superb climate with daytime temperatures rarely dropping below 16C even in winter. With lots of sun throughout the year it is a favourite place for winter vacations. In summer the temperatures are frequently in the range 35-40C.
Lanzarote is a beautiful island with over 300 volcanic openings giving it in places a strangely lunar appearance. A visit to the Timanfaya National Park includes a drive around many of the craters and the opportunity to have a meal cooked using volcanic heat.
Further north there are the Los Verdes caves, an extensive network of passages and caves formed by the lava many years ago. A guided tour is available and is well worth taking.
There is a cactus garden and various sculptures across the island which were created by Cesar Manriques.
The centre for the study of volcanoes and earthquakes explains how volcanoes are formed and provides information to scientists and geologists across the world. There are many places to visit throughout the island.
The Playa Blanca area
Playa Blanca is the most southerly resort on Lanzarote and therefore ideal for sun, sea and sand. In 20 years it has developed from a little fishing village with only 30 houses into one of the most modern beach resorts in the Canary Islands and has the longest beach promenade in Europe that extends to the new Marina Rubicon which has a charm of its own. There are numerous excellent fish restaurants along the seafront where you can sit and look across the sea to Fuerteventura.
There is a weekly market on Saturday at Marina Rubicon selling a wide variety of items - clothes, beads, various crafts, pictures, food, bags etc. It is located at the marina which provides an interesting backdrop for the market.
Teguise hosts the largest market on the island each Sunday and many visitors consider this to be an essential trip to make. Coaches converge on Teguise from all parts of the island and are easily available from Playa Blanca. (Local pick up point 2 mins away).
There are many fiestas, mainly in the summer, with the largest one in Playa Blanca happening in July. There is a funfair next to the port for three weeks
This southern part of the island has the best beaches namely Papagayo, Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo.
Enjoy a day trip to Fuerteventura. Only 20 minutes ferry trip from Playa Blanca port, disembarking at Corralejo, Fuerteventura. Ferry times available at the port.

The bungalow is ideal for couples looking for accommodation offering peace and quiet and relaxation. The complex is made up of semi detached bungalows, cleverly set out round the pool, but set back offering privacy on the large terrace area for sun bathing. The pool is large and very quiet. We had to ask where everybody had got to as it seemed we had the pool all to ourselves for large periods of the fortnight. The bungalow is of a good standard with everything you require, including cooking facilities, washing machine, sky tv (if that's your thing), twin beds, and fridge freezer. On arrival we also had water, milk, tea and coffee, and biscuits provided. Small touches that show Joanna, the owner, makes an effort for her guests. The location is superb. It is close to the supermarket, restaurants, bars, beaches, and the port for a trip to Feurteventura (24 euros return boat trip). It is also worth asking Joanna about organising a lift from and to the airport as Ted who she recommends is very reliable. On the last day we were able to stay until he collected us at 5pm as nobody else was due in that day. Again, service you might not get elsewhere, and therefore a big thank you to Joanna for a wonderful base for our relaxing holiday. |

I have just returned from 8 days at Jardin de Sol and had a lovely time. The bungalow is very well furnished, maintained and provides everything one could need, inc a selection of books/dvds and cds, a vast selection of crockery/cutlery and other cooking utensils, a 4 ring halogen hob, microwave, and a washing machine (in the bathroom). The furnishings are all very fresh and nice touches including pictures and candles make it very homely. There is a spacious, secluded terrace outside the front of the accommodation with sunbeds and a table and chairs overlooking the pool and tropical gardens, perfect for taking a leisurely lunch, and catching some rays. It is a very peaceful place. The location is perfect, central, just set back one road parallel to the coast, (behind the Iberostar Lanzarote Park ) only 10 mins (max) stroll to the lovely promenade (to your left) overflowing with a huge selection of eateries and bars along the water's edge. Lovely in both the daytime and at night. If you continue along the prom for another 15/20 mins you will reach Playa Dorada beach and another 5 minutes takes you to Rubicon Marina, stuffed with more good restaurants and bars overlooking the boats. If you turn to the right along the seafront and walk 2 mins there is the sheltered Flamingo beach a small row of restaurants/bars and a lovely coastal (paved) path for several miles, passing small bays, several large hotel complexes, a few bars/restaurants and ending at a lighthouse. There is a Spar supermarket and another small selection of resturants only 5 minutes walk away. I cannot recommend Jardin de Sol enough and look forward to returning again soon. Thanks Joanne.
