About this location
The Pieria Region
Villa Platamonas is situated at the foot of Mount Olympus, the mountain of the twelve gods, at the very point where legendary mountain reflects its green mass in the deep blue Thermaikos gulf.
Platamonas is a seaside resort located in the region of Central Macedonia. The resort is regarded as one of the most important tourist destinations in Pieria with green landscapes, beautiful beaches and crystalline waters. No wonder this resort has turned into a remarkable destination. Platamonas may be a starting point for exploring the prefecture of Pieria, continental Greece and the Greek islands.
The most important attraction is the Venetian Castle. The resort has numerous restaurants, hotels and campgrounds. During the summer the number of tourists increases to 120,000. A large number of visitors come from Eastern Europe but also from Greece as the resort is also very popular for Greek tourists.
According to Greek tradition, its name originates either from the platan trees or from the broad sandy beaches, both of which can be found in the areas surrounding the resort.
Most people know the Pieria region and Mount Olympus from the Greek mythology. Others know about this place from the tourists that have visited it. Even so, most of the tourists that have visited the place agree: Pieria is even more beautiful and thrilling in reality.
Very few places in the world associate endless beaches with their golden sand and clean sea, the mountains full of history and natural beauty, tourism organization with excellent prices in such a pleasant way. All these are connected in an excellent local infrastructure of roads, highways and rail roads.
Few other places in the world are blessed with 70 miles of shore, home to such different kinds of holidays, from quiet family holidays to weekend breaks for those young and restless tourists. Few places indeed offer such diversity in terms of entertainment, recreation and cultural life, due to their geographical diversity, secular history and especially the hospitality, friendship, diligence and consistency of people in the region.
The center of the resort is very picturesque and modern. It is full of souvenir shops and supermarkets. The hustle and bustle of the resort is observed mainly in the evening hours, when it is cooler and tourists go sightseeing.
Nearby is the tallest mountain in Greece, the famous Mount Olympus.
Platamonas is connected to the cities of Katerini and Larissa through the bus and train transportation system. With its calm and laid back atmosphere, high vegetation, panoramic views, the Venetian castle and the traditional settlement of Palios Panteleimonas in the area, Platamonas makes an ideal destination for a short visit and a break from the city.
The settlement is approximately 7 km away from the traditional and scenic settlement of Palios Panteleimonas a popular destination for its stunning panoramic view and graphic restaurants.
The planned restoration of the old railway line, which is still to be seen running along the seafront, shows imagination and pride in the past.
Olympus, the legendary mountain where the ancient Greek mythology was born. The residence of the 12 Gods, the countless demigods and heroes, the Nymphs and the Muses. It is the highest and most sacred mountain of Greece. On the border between Thessaly and Macedonia, with its highest peak, Mitikas (2,917 m), Olympus is famous not only for its mystic character, but also for its rare flora and fauna, small rivers, waterfalls, caves and forests, its peaks and steep rocky slopes, its monasteries and churches, its shelters and taverns. According to the Greek mythology, here, the twelve Gods defeated the Titans and established their reign. They fed on ambrosia and nectar, which certifies the excellent quality of local products (plants and wine). The thunderbolts of the mountain were the weapons of Zeus. In ancient Dion, on the roots of Olympus, Olympian Zeus was worshiped. In the wider area, the legend of ancient, wonderful lyrist Orpheus floats in the air. For the sake of his beloved woman, Orpheus bewitched even Hades, but found an awful death by the Maenads. The slopes and peaks of Olympus are a centre of attraction for climbers from all over the world, while they hide dangers, surprises and intense emotions, and its tranquil forested side has zealous fans of all ages.
The Pierian Mountains also have many and rare beauties, traditional hamlets and the famous ski centre of Elatochori, with modern facilities and ski runs.

They are surrounded by hamlets with excellent tourist infrastructures, cosmopolitan environment and exciting nightlife.

"An Amazing Area To Visit !"
We booked Villa Platamonas through the internet and although the pictures were beautiful we were not sure what to expect. The reality was even better! It's a paradise!! When we arrived, a basket of fruit and drinks were waiting for us and we found this a very polite gesture. The Villa is just 5 minutes from the town and the beach is even closer. The Villa has its privacy and it is in a very quiet place with spectacular views. Within a 5 minute distance you will find a super market, pharmacy, bakery and some nice and cheap traditional taverns. There are endless beaches close to the Villa and we tried most of them. We enjoyed the beach bars and the nightlife was absolutely fantastic! We are experienced travellers but we don't find places like that easily. The kitchen was fully equipped and the furniture brand new and very beautiful. The owners provided us with a list of useful information about where to visit and where and what to eat. Again, the views, the decoration, and the little details everywhere, the lovely comfortable bedrooms and linens, the taverns, the sights, beaches and nightlife as well as a very delightful owner, made our stay unforgettable! We are planning a return trip to Villa Platamonas very soon.
