Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
The Mill was originally Turkish owned as late as the 19th Century. The Mill fell into disuse in the late 1950s and subsequently was home to goats and sheep!! The present sympathetic conversion was carried out using professional architects and builders from Agios Nikolaos. The resultant building is absolutely charming and the villagers of Vrouhas are extremely friendly. Many of them in fact earned their living during their working lives in The Mill,

The Crete region
Crete is a hilly island....uh make that VERY hilly!!That said, views can be anything from tantastic to absolutel spectacular..but then I AM biased. In summer temp. can rise to +35 but March,April and October can also bring+25 so are WELL worth a visit. The history of Crete, especially during the 2nd. World War,is well documented and the written accounts of same are humbling to say the least.Spinalonga (leper colony till 1957)is the no.1 local attraction but there are charming walks around Vrouhas's olive groves and the village's kafeinions are always a place of interest to me.......men here seem to have no real semblance of the passage of time ....how envious I am of them!!
Spinalonga;Agios Nikolaos Marina;Sunken city of Olous at Ag.Nik.;Lassithi province craftwork at Ag.Nik.;Pottery workshops at Ag.Nik.;Kritsa for limited editions Cretan knives.;Byzantine icons at Petrakis shop in Elounda.;Plaka for excellent ,renowned fish restaurants,e.g.'Mirtos';Mount Dikti.......7,047 feet of rugged grandeur; The Lassithi Plain.......home to many still functioning , traditional windmills. Plaka is a rapidly developing ,little seaside village....catch it while it still has that certain charm.Elounda ,whilst much larger than Plaka is absolutely gorgeous and people returning annually for 12 years is not a difficult concept to swallow. A huge range of eateries and a friendly populace endorse its attraction.

"Excellent secluded holiday location"
The Olive Mill in Vruchas, a village a few kilometres up in the mountains above Plaka, the latter being maybe 6 Km from Elounda, was a wonderful place to stay. The property is spacious and full of cha… More
