We are the only agent in 2009 for Villa Christina which is one of our most popular villas for a myriad of reasons, not least of which is that it is outstanding value for money. The villa was built and finished to very high standard by its very welcoming owners, Christina and Stavros. Always warm, but never intrusive, they are the epitome of Greek hospitality. Despite being only 3 minutes by foot to the shops and excellent tavernas on the main square in Plaka, Villa Christina has the feel of a more rural location due in part to the mature garden and high hedge which surround the villa and large swimming pool.

Set on the top of a hill, beautiful views of Souda Bay, The White Mountains, Aptera Castle, the Akrotiri Peninsula and the village, can be seen from the villa’s many terraces. The stylish modern interior is very spacious, and has been designed to easily cope with Crete’s long hot summers. The marble stairwell, beautiful floor tiles, covered terraces, and traditional Cretan wooden furniture all help to this effect, as do the many terraces which provide a choice of sun or shade. The lovely lights throughout the villa were handmade at the local glass blowing factory in Kokkino Horio.

The Crete region

Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce.

As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.

Villa Christina is located in the heart of The Apokoronas Region just east of the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics. Visit 'Leather Lane' for outstanding hand made leather bargains.

The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, birdwatching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday.

Plaka, Crete area

The main square in Plaka is only 150m from The Villa Christina and is still very much the focal point of village life. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 3 excellent tavernas, 2 well stocked mini markets, a sweet shop, and 5 cafes.

The lovely village of Almyrida is only 1.3km from Villa Christina, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 4 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist office owned and run by Frankie Miles, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans.

A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local winery can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a free copy of the guide book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.

How to get there

An easy 35 minute drive from Chania Airport.

** Many other flight options from Heraklion Airport which is a 1 hour and 45 minute drive along the pretty coastal highway.

** Cheap flights available by many companies including EasyJet into Heraklion Airport.

** Other good flight options provided by Thomas Cook, Monarch, First Choice and Thompson (among others).

** Excellent value car hire provided by the villa agent.

** Comfortable local taxis (usually Mercedes) can be booked for you by the villa agent.

Many modern comforts have been provided for including: a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchen which includes: a ceramic hob, built-in oven, and a dishwasher; a utility cupboard with a washing machine; a TV, and a DVD player in the lounge; aluminium doors, window frames and shutters; and air conditioning units in all the bedrooms and the living room. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season. The water is heated by either solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.

All in all, Villa Christina is the perfect place for either families or couples to enjoy a wonderful, relaxing holiday with beautiful scenery.

All around the property are flowerbeds which have been planted with a variety of different plants including roses, geraniums, bougainvillea, morning glory, oleander and gerber daisies. There is a lawn with BBQ and a large area of pampus grass, and there are many trees including, conifers, palms, yucca and almond. Just next to the pool terrace and large swimming pool is a tall shady carob tree with a table and chairs which is the perfect place to relax on a hot summer’s day. There is ample outdoor furniture on all the terraces and by the pool, including sun-beds, umbrellas, tables and chairs.

Children are most welcome in all our properties and we provide a free High Chair and Cot loan service but, we do ask that Children are supervised at all times whilst around and in the Swimming Pool.

We do ask that Reservations are made at least 2 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment. As with all our Villas, a discount is available for stays of 3 weeks or more.

All prices shown are for the Villa and not per person. As with all our Villas on the Island, we can arrange Car Hire through reputable companies. We also offer Airport Transport service.

All of our villas are available for Long Term Winter lets at Greatly Reduced Prices but the price during the winter does not include fuel for the central heating or electricty - these will be incur an additional charge.
