The Stann Creek District
Stann Creek is Belize's second largest city. Stann creek district offers a wide variety of activities from sea fishing to diving and discovery of the Mayan culture.
From here you can discover true Belize rich history, from buccanneers to slave traders. The British influence over the years have made English an official language of the country. The people are friendly and the culture is truly amazing.
Small villages and citrus groves are a characteristic of the Stann Creek valley and the views on the limestone hills against the green of the forest offer beautiful views.
Placencia Peninsula / Maya Beach area
Bella Maya Resort is located in Placencia, Belize. There are several low-key resorts, restaurants and bars located along the Placencia Peninsula, with the small coastal town of Placencia being only 10 miles south of the resort, where there are several shops, restaurants and hardware stores.
There are also a number of diving and boat operations, which run from the Placencia pier. There are dozens of fabulous diving and snorkeling sites only minutes from the peninsula’s coastline. Not far away on the mainland there are a multitude of attractions, including breathtaking Mayan ruins; jungle medicine trails, horse riding, mountain biking, canoeing, white-water rafting, natural spas and an abundance of wildlife.
How to get there
Fly to Belize City International Airport is just a short flight away from many major airports across America including Miami, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, New York, and Charlotte. Direct flights are also available from Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Costa Rica. Direct flights to and from the UK & Europe are expected to start during 2008.then take a short (30mn) internal flight to Placencia Bella Maya is just a 15 minute drive north from Placencia Airport and you can travel to the resort via the complementary 24 hour Bella Maya transfer service. If you would prefer to hire a vehicle from Belize City, you can take the Western Highway towards Belmopan and then turn off left onto the scenic Hummingbird Highway. This route takes you through the lower regions of the Maya Mountains towards Dangriga. Turn off right onto the Southern Highway and look for signs to Placencia. You will see the entrance to the resort from the road. The journey from Belize City to Bella Maya will take approximately 3 hours,
