The Calabria region
Calabria has much to offer in unspoilt countryside and historic centres from the rugged Sila mountain range to the vast coastline boasting stunning beaches and ancient architecture plus brilliant sunshine all summer long. It is untouched by mass tourism yet has beautiful scenery being a photographers paradise with a fantastic shot to be had at every turn.
In the local Vibo Valentia area are Pizzo and Tropea, perched on cliff-sides, two of the most picturesque towns in southern Italy. They have a truly medi-evil feel with ancient dooor-ways, castles, cathedrals etc and offer magnificent views over the sea. From Tropea trips are available to Capo Vaticano and the Eolian Islands. Evening trips are very popular to the famous active vulcano Stromboli. Reggio Calabria is about one and a half hours away and well worth a visit, you can combine culture, museums, shopping and the beach.
The delightful local wine is a mere 2 or 3 euro per bottle, home made ice creams are world renowned and restaurants serve delicious fresh fish, pizza and pasta dishes. For home cooking the shops are full of very locally grown deliciously fresh fruit and vegetables.
Pizzo Beach Club is a delightful complex perfect for a relaxing holiday where you can enjoy walks through the forest, along the stunning uncrowded private beach, swim in the sea or pool and relax on the sun loungers.
Pizzo town is a straight 10km drive from the apartment and is full of charm steeped in culture and history. It offers lovely little restaurants with a variety of freshly caught fish daily.
Trains run from Pizzo down the coast stopping at the local towns and villages. Also to Reggio Di Calabria, Rome and many other destinations, car parking available at station.
There are lots of other pretty villages and towns to discover like Zambrone, Pargelia, Briatico where almost any day of the week one market or another can be found. The beautiful little hill-side town of Filadelfia, which is about 10 km from the apartment high up in the mountains, is definitely worth a visit for wonderful scenery and the local market on Thursday mornings.

"Wonderful Apartment within walking distance of the Sea"
This was a great little apartment in a nice quiet little complex. A beautiful walk through an enchanted forest to get to the Sea. We had a wonderful time there and everything was just as it said it would be. There was very good communication and all of our questions were answered quickly. We did not make it to the pools but we were sight seeing most of the time. Tropea is a short drive from the apartment and well worth the drive. We spent 3 days there but were in Italy for 3 weeks and this area is where we enjoyed our best meals.

"A lovely apartment with an exceptionally friendly and helpful owner"
We stayed at May's apartment during January and February on our way back to France from Turkey. It was a bit of a last minute booking but May made everything really easy for us. We felt welcome from the word go. Every time we wrote to May with questions, they were answered quickly and efficiently. The apartment is very cosy and homely and May's original artwork is very impressive. The rooms are really nicely decorated and furnished and we felt at home very quickly. The bed was comfortable and we slept really well throughout our stay. There is an enclosed garden with a lovely space to sit out overlooking a grassy area with lots of pretty trees and you can park right outside. We had a free WiFi connection which was a real bonus. The walk through the pine and eucalyptus forest to an expansive sandy beach was a big plus point and the sea was crystal clear. We even managed to swim a bit. When the sun was out, it was lovely and warm. We would definitely recommend this apartment and feel very fortunate to have found May. She really is a gem!

"Wonderful relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of Italy"
What a wonderful holiday we had from the moment we arrived to the last sad day we had to leave! The whole booking process was very smooth. May (the owner) was very nice and helpful and so quick to answer every question and provide helpful information. We were met by the property manager Paul, who gave us a thorough tour of the Beach Club. The apartment was just perfect for the two of us. Clean, modern and fully equipped with everything we needed or just loved to have, like the table tennis bats, a drying rack or the espresso maker, just to mention a few things. The bed was most comfortable and there is ample of closet space. To be able to sit outside on the terrace and eat or just to have a sundowner after a day at the beach or the pool was very relaxing. Free Wifi, a washing machine, Air conditioning and parking right in front of the apartment was a very nice bonus. The location is very easy to reach from the airport - just 15 minutes by car. Pizzo Beach Club itself is lovely, very well maintained, very quiet and safe. All facilities are immaculately kept and the 5-minute-walk through the pine trees to the beach was very relaxing. There are 2 beautiful pools - the one by the on-site restaurant has a water slide. There is also a small café by the pool, where you can get icecream and espresso during the day. The beach and the pools (all with life guards) were unspoilt, lovely and quiet when we were there. The free sun loungers and umbrellas were a bonus. There are a few supermarkets in Pizzo town. And you will find quite a few vegetable-/fruit farmshops along the road towards Pizzo, which provide a vast selection of lovely local goodies, like wine, bread, cheese and of course vegetable and fruit. A car is advisable to make the most of the area and to visit the lovely old towns of Pizzo (10 Minutes away) and Tropea (30 Minutes away) and the breathtaking coast of Capo Vaticano.

"Excellent relaxing stay in beautiful part of Italy"
This was our first time staying in a private apartment in Italy and we really enjoyed the personal feel. This is a lovely place to stay and perfectly positioned in the area. The beach club has a very quiet, exclusive feel to it. Everything from the booking to the holiday was superb. The owner was more than helpful in making our holiday special. The apartment was extremely homely and comfortable and had a number of extras to enhance our stay. We would definitely stay again.

"An excellent apartment in an idyllic part of Italy"
Recently returned from my trip to Italy by motorbike, I stayed in May's apartment at Pizzo Beach Club for a week which after 1500 miles of long days spent riding and camping made for a very relaxing and peaceful break! The apartment is immaculate really - a very comfortable and spacious king-sized bed, its furnished and decorated superbly, and has all the things which you could possibly need there while on holiday - from picnic blankets, an airer to dry your clothes in the sun on the patio at the front of the apartment, plenty of towels, cooking utensils etc through to a nice selection of books, CDs and DVDs for instance. The air-conditioning works brilliantly and is very useful in the warm evenings! At the time I was there (late June) the beach club resort was quite empty (a bonus!) and so very peaceful - plenty of access to the two pools on-site and no problem getting a sun lounger at the beach! The beach itself is accessed via a short stroll through the forest and is very spacious. It often has a soothing breeze, a little care can be necessary entering and leaving the sea though as the waves can be powerful some days. Travelling along the winding coastal road to Pizzo and onward above the cliffs brings you to an array of pretty beaches, quaint little towns and villages with real character; and gives you a panoramic view of the stunning blue sea that surrounds the coast. I found the many ice cream parlours to be a great place to stop and enjoy something cooling - the local (very delicious) 'tartufo' variety shows you how seriously Italians take perfecting their ice cream! For eating out I found the plentiful restaurants in the local area to be better value than the on-site restaurant, which to me seemed expensive and generally not as tasty in comparison to what you could have away from the beach club - though of course its useful having the option of somewhere to eat on site when you don't fancy cooking or going out. The locals are very friendly, any language barriers you feel may exist are soon overcome by their general hospitality and eagerness to make you feel welcome. All in all my only regret is not booking a second week there, was sad to be leaving what seemed like so soon after arriving! I would definitely recommend the apartment to anyone who is looking for an independent break away in a peaceful and interesting part of Italy. May (the owner) is very helpful and on-hand when needed as is Paul from the management company who meets you at the beach club on arrival with keys and shows you around the apartment. Chris

"Great place to have some relaxing holidays"
We had a good time in Pizzo Beach Club. The rental was great, as the place is well furnished and convenient. Pizzo Beach Club is a nice place for childrens as it offers 2 swimmings pools and a direct access to the beach (10 min. walk). May J. (owner) was very helpful and gave us some very goood advices. I really appreciate her inputs before renting out and she made us feel confident renting with her. Once again, thanks for your help. I would definitely recommend!

"Excellent new resort and great apartment to stay in"
Pizzo Beach Resort although a little quiet has some great facilities, two great swimming pools, tennis courts, gym, restaurant and the beach is fantastic. The apartment we stayed in was very comfortable indeed, air conditioning, bedroom and living area were well furnished, kitchen area and bathroom. Its close to the bigger of the two pools. The staff on the resort were all friendly and helpful. Would be good idea to hire car, although puclic transport and taxis can be used instead. Would definitely recommend.
