About the home

Pizzo Beach Club is a 5 Star development situated 10 minutes outside the historic town of Pizzo and only 10 minutes from Lamezia airport. This two bedroom apartment with private balcony and separate roof terrace is fully air conditioned with parking. There is a newly built pergola with comfortable seating ideal for lazy days, reading a good book or sampling the local wine! For sun seekers there are sun beds provided but also plenty of shaded areas too!

The apartment offers a choice of dining options with a table in the kitchen, breakfast table on the balcony and a larger dining area on the roof terrace. In fact this luxurious apartment has double the space due to the roof terrace running the whole length of the first floor. With spacious bedrooms this apartment will comfortably sleep 5 and there is plenty of storage facilities.

Just ten minutes stroll from the apartment is the private beach which can be accessed through a peaceful eucalyptus forest. This child friendly apartment is furnished to the highest standard and well equipped for couples or families wanting to make the most of their self catering experience.

Facilities include two swimming pools, tennis courts, football pitch, children's park, shop and gym. There is a staffed reception that can help you with local information. The onsite restaurant serves quality local dishes; we can recommend the chef's speciality `Bucatini', it's delicious! For dessert why not try one of the local speciality ice creams with a splash of amaretto or the famous Tartufo, it's quite addictive. And for those with a sweet tooth try the lemon cello, it will blow your socks off!

Situated next door is the world renowned Club Med with discounted day passes available to residents at Pizzo Beach Club.

The apartment is fully air conditioned with on street parking. There is a double sofa bed with a comfortable chair and side table. We have provided a large screen TV with Cable and a Blue-Ray DVD Player accompanied with a selection of DVDs. The master bedroom has a double bed with a large wardrobe; chest of draws and two bedside cabinets, there is also enough floor space for a travel cot which we can also provide. The second bedroom has two single beds with a chest of draws, hanging storage and a bedside cabinet. The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped for all your self catering needs. There is a dining room table and a fridge freezer with a kettle and a toaster. For families there is a high chair and toddler safe cutlery.

The apartment can comfortably sleep 4 in the bedrooms and with the double sofa bed there is room for a fifth person. There is a washing machine, clothes airer and iron. Sport lovers are also welcome to use the tennis rackets provided. For days on the beach we have provided beach towels and an ice box. Coffee lovers will find an espresso maker. Clean towels and bed linen are provided with an apartment clean included in the rate. Unlike other self catering apartments we include FREE GAS and ELECTRIC during your stay!

The apartment has a large private roof terrace which can be reached by a gated stairwell leading from the lower private balcony. The roof terrace is quite spacious and runs the whole length of the first floor. The newly built pergola has a comfortable seating area providing shade. In a separate area on the roof terrace there is a dining table with parasol which can comfortably seat 6. There are sun beds for those wishing to relax and sun bathe. We have also provided a breakfast table and chairs on the lower balcony. This family friendly resort boasts two swimming pools-one with a swim up bar, tennis courts, football pitch, children's park and fully fitted gymnasium. There is also a traditional Italian restaurant with bar.

Approximately ten minutes' walk from the apartment is the private beach which can be reached via the protected pine and eucalyptus forest. This beautiful stretch of sand shows the Italian coastline in all its glory. Sun loungers and umbrellas are provided solely for Pizzo Beach Club residents. Why not try the restaurant and facilities next door at Club Med. Day passes with discounted rates are available during your stay. For convenience try the Pizzeria (seasonal) at the camping site next door, open to the public this offers basic meals at affordable prices. Just a ten minute walk from the resort is a gelateria (seasonal) set in an idyllic orange grove, they sell home made ice cream and serve coffee at affordable prices, this is a great place to sit and relax.

For holiday makers wanting to make the most of the self catering experience there is a great choice of food outlets. There is an onsite shop (seasonal) and just five minutes drive from the resort is a local grocer selling local delicacies. Positioned on the road are numerous fruit sellers offering high quality local produce.

Just ten minutes from Pizzo beach Club is the main supermarket in the neighbouring village Acconia. Other amenities located here are a bank, chemist and a phone shop; basically anything you may need is on your door step. There are many restaurants in the surrounding vicinity just a short drive away from the resort. If you don't want to cook or eat out locally why not pick up a Pizza from the local take out for as little as €4.

The Southern Italy / Calabria region

The Calabrian region is a unique holiday destination and still relatively undiscovered. Enriched with history & culture there are many beautiful beaches and castles dotted along the coastline. Many fairs and festivals take place in Calabria throughout the year. They are always exciting events, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. There are many seasonal art festivals with performances and stalls showcasing local delicacies. Visit the wonderful markets offering fresh produce on almost every day of the week. Religious festivals are celebrated by processions carrying venerated statues around the streets. The locals are very keen to share with you their heritage & passion for the region.

Pizzo is a traditional fishing port on the Calabrian coast and is a spectacular location. Set on a steep cliff overlooking the sea it has one of the longest coastlines of unspoilt beaches. This pretty historical town is just a short 10 minute drive from the apartment. As one of the most renowned historical towns in the Vibo Valentia province it has retained much of its character and charm.

The Pizzo / Pizzo Beach area

Pizzo has claimed to have been founded by colonists from ancient Greece. Its history begins with a community of monks, a fort, and a fishing village since 1300. The name Pizzo translates into bird's beak, and fits perfectly to the rock face extending into the sea. For centuries it was the custom to spread nets and corral tuna in the area called Centofontane, although this activity was banned in the 1970's. Legend tells us that in the areas of Piedigrotta and Prangi sea caves were used by Saracen pirates for capturing prisoners. In 1783 the town was almost destroyed by an earthquake, and again it suffered some damage from another earthquake in 1905.

Walk the cobbled streets and imagine how life used to be. Visit the Piazza Della Republic where events and social occasions take place during the summer months. Enjoy the spectacular views across the ocean overlooking Castle Murat. There are many restaurants and gelateria's to choose from which remain open at siesta. Try the local speciality Tartufo, an ice cream brick, covered in coco powder with a soft centre oozing molten chocolate, a must for ice cream lovers!

At the foot of the town lies the marina which is filled with bars and restaurants. There is a small beach, quite sheltered and ideal for small children. Whether going for a swim followed by lunch or an atmospheric evening meal this area will not disappoint. Towering above the marina is the imposing rock face with Castle Murat perched on top. Particularly atmospheric at night this area is a popular nightspot.

Pizzo Beach Club is a gated community with a reception located at the main gate. For help and advice on local tourist and transport information ask staff for details. Local shuttle buses run from Pizzo Beach Club to Pizzo town twice a day. Local taxis are available on request. Catch a train from the local station at Francavilla Angitola and enjoy the coastal ride to Tropea. There is also a seasonal tourist shuttle which travels from Lamezia, stopping at our neighbours, Club Med and continuing to Pizzo town, Tropea and Capo Vaticano.

MUSEUM AT CASTLE MURAT – 15th Century aragonese castle where Joachim Murat, the King of Naples and brother to Napoleon Bonaparte was held prisoner and assassinated.

PIEDIGROTTO CHURCH – 16th century church carved from stone and hidden in a cave located on the beach.

STROMBOLI - Experience the active volcano and walk up the rim of the crater in approx. 3 hours. Take a leisurely boat trip around the island at night to watch the firework display which can often be spectacular.

TROPEA – Famous for its sweet red onions this picturesque town is both fashionable and unspoilt. The Santa Maria dell'Isola is positioned on a strip of land projecting towards the sea. Sunday Times put Tropea as the number one spot in its 'Top 20 Beaches' report in January 2007.

SERRA SAN BRUNO - Carthusian monastery of Serra San Bruno established in 1091 and the Sanctuary of St Mary in the Woods which are both set within the dense canopy of a fir and pine forest.

LOCAL BEACHES – Visit the white sandy beaches with clear crystal waters located at Marinella, Vibo Marina, Briatico, Zambrone and Tropea. Travel further towards Capo Vaticano and discover Ricardi, a popular destination for Italian holiday makers.

FILEDELPHIA - This small market town was built in 1783 and is just a short distance by car. Located on the steep mountainside we advise you visit on a market day to truly appreciate the atmosphere.

Please see below information regarding airlines, car rentals and trains. Lamezia airport is just a short 10 minute drive from the apartment. To truly discover the region we recommend that you hire a car. At the moment there are no rental companies in Pizzo but there are numerous companies at the airport or Lamezia town. It is essential that you book ahead to avoid disappointment. Don't forget to request car seats for accompanying children.

“What a great place for a break, great food, great people” We were amazed by the location, Pizzo is a beautiful town, it was great stepping back in time. The Apartment was lovely, just as the advert described. We found the on site restaurant convenient and we appreciated the free sunbeds on the private beach. The weather was hot and when we travelled up the coast we managed to find some amazing beaches. Tropea was a delight and we would have loved more time to explore the area. A truly memorable holiday, just wished we'd stayed longer

“Unspoilt southern Italy on a great complex and Apartment” Our first time as a family to Italy and we found it great. Diffirent to the usual popular destinations and we had an experience of real Italy. The apartment was spacious and easily catered for 4 of us, it had all the amenities necessary and we were very comfortable. The location was a real surprise and Pizzo itself was breathtaking. The area provides easy access to other areas such as Tropea by car or train. The beach is a lovely 10 minute walk through a athmospheric forest area and what a great beach. We were lucky as late October we thought the weather may not be great but it was scortching every day.

“lovely apartment, lovely holiday.” We had a lovely holiday. The apartment was spacious with everything you need, (even a cool box, which was a great for keeping water and sun creams cool during the day). The apartment's decoration is modern and comfortable, with comfy beds and a decent shower. The little extras such as the tennis rackets and balls, made it more home from home. The roof top terrace was great for eating and relaxing in the evening. The resort is in its infancy and therefore was very quiet. We went at the end of season. It offers two great pools with a lifeguard on duty at each. There is a lovely sandy beach is a mere five minutes stroll through a beautiful pine forest. The restaurant on site was open in the evenings, but not every lunchtime (maybe as it was end of season) the food is great, with big portions and very friendly staff. With two tennis courts, a gym and a football court you can keep the children amused when you're not in the pool. As it was quiet when we stayed we were able to use the facilities without booking. We also often would be one of only a few people around the pool, so no fighting to get a sun lounger! The resort feels safe; you have a swipe card to get about. The staff at reception are really helpful. There is an amazing gelateria (ice cream bar) about a 5 minute walk down the main road. We went here about 3 times during the week. It is very reasonably priced. The only negative was that there was no shop on site; however, there is a small limited one about 10 minutes' walk along the busy road. Therefor you need to have a car or get a taxi into Pizzo for food. You can use the shuttle bus, but this only runs from 4pm and has restricted return times. So I would defiantly recommend hiring a car for at least part of the holiday, to get some food! Pizzo town is very pretty and Italian. Ice cream is available during the day and the big choice of restaurants which start serving real Italian food from 7pm. While we were there we went tree climbing in the mountains, which was an amazing experience for all of us. It is very reasonably priced and well run. It is about 40 minutes away. A great family day out (for children 8 and over) We had great weather (it was in the mid/high 30s) and spent most of the time chilling by the pools or at the beach. Overall a great holiday and we would go back... but hire a car!
