About this location
The Perth and Kinross region
Pitlochry is the geographical centre of Scotland, situated in Highland Perthshire on the main road and rail routes to Inverness and the north of Scotland, with direct services from Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. It is one of the most beautiful, easily accessed areas in Scotland, well known for its rivers, lochs, glens, magnificient trees, hills and mountains, castles and gardens, rich in history and heritage, culture and tradition.
Being well situated in the Tummel Valley, Pitlochry neither has the weather patterns of the west coast or east coast of Scotland, and the climate is softer, drier and warmer than most parts of the country. It is the ideal central location to explore the rich history of the area, the castles, gardens, woodland walks, golf courses, distilleries and enjoy the culture at Highland Nights, the Festival Theatre, and entertainment in the local bars. The town is central to many well known annual events, including the Etape Caledonia (Britain's only closed road cycle event), Pitlochry Highland Games, Pitlochry Golf Week and the Highland Open Ladies and Men's Golf Championships, and the Enchanted Forest award winning light show. The Festival Theatre now offers a year round programme, with its main season of plays and concerts through May to October, a Christmas Programme - this year, It's Miracle on 34th Street - as well as the Winter Words event in February.
The late autumn period provides opportunity to enjoy the Highland Perthshire landscape still showing magnificient colour in the forests, hills and mountains, enhanced with early morning frosts, The bracing air offers an ideal environment for brisk forest walks, cycling or mountain biking on trails or tracks which are quiet and largely undisturbed. For the enthusiasts skiing in Glenshee can be excellent at in the early months of the year. A memorable visit to THE ENCHANTED FOREST (3-26/10) is a particular delight for children as well as adults. The FESTIVAL THEATRE offers an autumn and winter programme of concerts and activities, Early in 2015 the Winter Words Festival returns, from 13 to 21 February, celebrating not only a feast of books, but words which are written, spoken, sung, in verse, or in comedy or debate. From 1 March through until the Summer Season of Plays, the Theatre offers a variety of week-end concerts, ballet, dance, opera and other events, including Art Workshops, Photography and Workshops in the Explorers Garden. The 2015 summer season of plays and concerts is now available from the Theatre website.
A WINTER OR SPRING BREAK in our Garden Cottage or Courtyard Studio, provides an ideal, quiet, cosy, central location to relax and enjoy the beauty and calm of the Highland Perthshire countryside, or for winter sports in Glenshee, or to visit the Festival Theatre for Winter Words, a concert, or special event.
