The Perth and Kinross region

Highland Perthshire is literally at the heart of Scotland. It is a magical land of glens with spire like peaks that melt into forested slopes, clear lochs with rushing rivers. There are fairy tale castles, ruins, famous whisky distilleries and many idyllic towns like Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Kenmore , Killin, Crieff, Aberfeldy, Dunkeld, and Perth.

Loch Tummel seen from Queen's View and the rugged beauty of Loch Rannoch offer canoeing, sailing and fishing. Nature lovers do not have to go far because deer, pheasants, grouse, hare, squirrels and other rare birds and animals are regular visitors to the vicinity. Several golf courses are in the nearby towns of Aberfeldy, Pitlochry and St Fillans. For those who want the flexibility, transport, hire, dining and catering are all available in the local Pitlochry and Dunkeld villages . Rannoch Station (West Highland line) is only 17 miles away

Walkers are especially spoiled for choice. If you want to bag a Munro or a take gentle stroll along riverside and forest paths, the local area can offer many opportunities. A short distance from the cottage there numerous walks on the Atholl estate from the gentle to the challenging. There are walking networks around many of the towns and villages such as Pitlochry, Dunkeld, Blairgowrie, Crieff and Comrie, the area is full interesting features such as the sites of Roman camps, medieval castles, whisky distilleries and Victorian follies.

Historic Dunkeld, with its cathedral and restored 17th century buildings is well worth a visit. as is Birnam Institute which provides a home for the Beatrix Potter Exhibition & Garden. Beatrix Potter drew inspiration for 'The Tales of Peter Rabbit' from her childhood holidays spent along the banks of The River Tay.

Each year in August the increasingly popular Blair Atholl International Horse Trials and Country fair are held, attracting riders from all over the world.

And for theatre lovers the famous Pitlochry Festival Theatre is just a short drive away offering a wonderful selection of plays and events throughout the summer and beyond.
