The Limassol District
THE LIVELY TOWN The south coast of Lemesos is the island’s largest seaside resort and its main harbour. Built between two ancient towns, Amathounta and Kourion, it was already known as Neapoli (the new town) during the Byzantine years. Surrounded by the wine villages of Troodos, Lemesos has been known to traders for its wine and sugar cane, since the Middle Ages. Today, with a population of 135 000, it is the second largest city of Cyprus, the centre of its wine making industry, and an important commercial and tourist centre.
Pissouri / Pissouri Bay area
There are few secrets left in Cyprus, Pissouri is one of them. Located in a hidden bay with sandy beaches, Pissouri boasts some truly spectacular scenery with an added touch of local life. Pissouri is split into the lower and upper towns, each offering an eccletic mix of modern luxury and traditional customs local to Cyprus.
Pissouri is located only 20 mins drive from Paphos International Airport, and is also a few minutes drive from Aphrodite Hills as well as Troodos which is also only 30-40mins drive away.
Pissouri is a village situated in a stunning bay right by the sea. The bay is flanked by high hills on either side making the crystal waters as calm as a tranquil lake. The beach itself is beautiful, a sandy stretch which offers easy access to a number of restaurants, my favourite being the taverna at the right end of the beach (sea facing). We spend our Sundays there during the summer, and i recommend this to anyone spending some time in Pissouri.
Pissouri itself is comprised of the sea front village and hill top village behind, this is where one can find the more traditional restaurants tucked away in the narrow streets that once ferried donkey carts and farmers to and from market. On Wednesdays the village square puts on a Greek evening of Bouzouki and live traditional music which can be enjoyed from one of the various taverns in the square.
Pissouri offers easy access Paphos itself if you are seeking the hustle and bustle of mainstream tourist locations.
