The Limassol District
Cyprus has a Mediterranean climate, with lots of sunshine all year round. In summer there are high temperatures with cloudless skies, but the sea breeze cools the air in the coastal areas. Winters are mild, with some rain, and snow on Troodos Mountains. Average temperatures range from 13C in January to maximum mean daily temperature of 36C in the height of summer.
Relaxing in the sun is not the only reason to visit Cyprus. There is a myriad of activities you could indulge in and being an island, water sports feature strongly. Try the waterpark for thrills, or bungee jumping for an extreme sensation. Discover the magic of the underwater world by snorkelling or diving in the warm crystal clear seas. Windsurfing and sailing can be enjoyed all the year round, thanks to steady winds and calm predictable seas, while coastal cruising and deep-water fishing are also popular. You could even use the island as a base for a short cruise to other nearby countries. Walking, cycling, golf, fishing and horse riding are some of the other activities available. Hire a 4 by 4 and explore some of the breath taking scenery that is abundant all over the island.
Feel the romance in the air in the land where Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, once roamed. Swim in the sea by the rocks known as Petra tou Romiou where she was believed to have risen from the waves, make a pilgrimage to her sanctuary at Kouklia, or visit the grotto near Polis where she was supposed to have bathed. The island is the perfect place to celebrate a wedding or go for your honeymoon.
According to archaeological evidence, the Cyprus civilization dates back to the 9th millennium BC. The Island acquired its Greek character after its colonisation by the Mycenaean Greeks between the 13th century and 11th century BC. Subsequently Cyprus came under Assyrian, Egyptian and Persian domination and became part of the Roman Empire between 30 BC and 330 AD.
Pissouri / Pissouri Village area
Pissouri village is an attractive and friendly village in south-west Cyprus. The village, set on the hillside, commands a magnificent view of 32kms of Mediterranean coastline. To the south and east there are panoramic views of the coast, across vineyards, olive and carob trees and to the north one can see the Troodos Mountains.
Pissouri has a unique and attractive chararcter loved by all who visit. The Cypriot character has been retained and it is still very much a working village. Visitors can find almost anything they need in the village including many fine taverna's, restaurants, bars, banks, pharmacy, doctor, dentist and mini supermarkets. Not suffering from over commercialisation you will enjoy uncrowded days on the stunning blue flag beach and good prices in excellent Cypriot taverns.
Pissouri is split into the upper village and the lower bay area. Both are home to some excellent restaurants. Either dine in the pedestrian only cobbled streets of the upper village or enjoy the food in the seaside taverns of the bay area.
Paphos Harbour is 20 minutes drive away to the west and Limassol is 20 minutes to the east. Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley golf courses are less than 10 mins away and the Troodos mountains are a 40 minute drive away. The legendary birth place of Aphrodite ( Petra tou Romiou ) is less than 5 minutes drive away.
Walking, cycling, golf, fishing, watersports, scuba diving, bird watching and horse riding are just some of the activities available in Pissouri and immediate surrounding areas. Paphos is a world heritage site, is steeped in history and has some sites of archeological interest.
