The Limassol District
Pissouri is made up of two distinct communities- Pissouri jetty and Pissouri village. Pissouri Jetty offers a selection of Cypriot tavernas, a couple of small supermarkets, a bank and one luxury hotel. The beach is safe, clean and picturesque, earning blue flag status. A mix of sand and shingle, the beach is seldom busy and you can often find a spot under the shade of one of the many trees lining the sand away from everybody else- pure bliss! The old village of Pissouri is set up on the hill a few kilometres away from the jetty. The village has retained a real Cypriot charm whilst offering everything that you might need including a range of shops, chemist, banks and tavernas. During the summer months 'Cyprus night' is held in the lovely traffic free village square, with traditional Cyprus dancing and music. Despite this being essentially a tourist attraction, the villagers are weekly attendees making this a truly Cypriot occasion! Troodos mountains are approx 30 kms away and offer beautiful walks and stunning scenary. It is well worth stopping off at one of the many beautiful small villages encountered as you drive around Troodos. Typical Cypriot tavernas found en route offer fantastic cuisine always served with a smile! Traditional handcrafted products especially lace and leather products can be found in the shops and markets around Troodos. Sking is offered during the winter months. The Pissouri area is famous for growing grapes, mainly in the valley between the main roads and the sea that leads to Pissouri Beach. There are a number of vineyards locally offering tasting sessions. The vineyard in Anogyra produces some particularly good wines and is well worth a visit. For the more adventourous, there are waterparks in Paphos and Larnaca. The old port of Paphos is of historical interest, offers good shopping and eating places particularly along the harbour side.
Pissouri area
Traditional Cyprus evening held each Wednesday evening in the old village. Golf course within a 20 minute drive. Mountain bikes can be hired. Boat trips to Aphrodites rock Windsurfing, water sking and catamarans with tuition available. Kite surfing offered in a nearby bay. Ther is a range of tavernas offering good Cypriot food. There is also a wonderful restaurant within the nearby 5* hotel which offers fantastic food and is a great treat.
How to get there
Fly to Paphos or Larnaca - Paphos is approximately 25 minute drive whilst Larnaca is a very pleasant one hour drive. Flights are available from most national and regional airports. Local taxis are always available at both airports. Car hire is available from both airports and can be booked in advance from www.cyprus-car-rental.co.uk
