The Limassol region

Compared with the hustle and bustle of Limassol, the big-city atmosphere of Nicosia and the beauty and charm of Paphos, Larnaca is often overlooked.

But it would be a mistake to discount Larnaca as it really does have some beautiful places to visit, good beaches and lots of things to do. The first thing you'll know about Larnaca is that it is where the country's primary international airport is, and if you're not on a charter flight, then it's probably where your holiday begins.

Pissouri

Situated in the principal vine growing area of Cyprus, Pissouri is found approximately half way between Limassol and Paphos and is a great base from which to explore both places. Pissouri is one of those rare places in Cyprus which has managed to retain its traditional Cypriot character while adapting very successfully to welcoming visitors, and could be considered by those looking for a beach holiday, sightseeing break or golf enthusiasts alike.

Pissouri extends from the traditional village on the hillside, down to the sheltered Bay with its clear blue sea. Split between two distinct communities each possesses a unique character and charm.

Set in the hillside is the village of Pissouri approximately 500 metres away, and at the heart of the village the charming pedestrianised square with a good array of tavernas and restaurants.

There are banks, a post office, mini market and delicatessen found in the village. During the summer months a traditional Cypriot night takes place in the traffic free square, with the dancing and music enjoyed by visitors and locals alike.

The beach at Pissouri, approximately 3 kilometres away, is the proud recipient of a blue flag award and boasts a shoreline that extends for two kilometers, from the protection of the Cape Aspro Cliffs in the west to the rockier Mavrorotsos area in the east. In the bay you will find a handful of informal tavernas and restaurants offering a selection of local and international cuisine.

Two golf courses are within 10 minutes drive of Pissouri. Aphrodite Hills boasts the magnificent 18 hole championship golf course designed by acclaimed course architect, Cabell B Robinson whilst the Secret Valley Golf Course, offers an 18 hole championship course in a spectacular setting in a scenic valley surrounded by mature trees and beautiful sculpted rock formations.

The resort of Aphrodite Hills also offers the perfect escape for non golfers too at their award winning Retreat Spa (honoured with the top accolade of ‘European Spa of the Year 2008' at the Professional Beauty Awards). Here you can indulge in the ultimate pamper experience in a sanctuary of calm and tranquility, leaving you feeling refreshed, relaxed and rejuvenated.

The sights of Petra Tou Romiou (Aphrodites Rock), Kourium ampitheatre, Kolossi Castle and the World Heritage sites of Paphos are all within a 30 minute drive.
