This beautiful 2 bedroom ground floor (duplex) Apartment apartment is excellently positioned in a quiet area of the resort close to the heated pool and a short walk to the restaurant and wine bar. The Apartment opens directly onto a garden area with stunning views, and enjoys sun throughout the day from mid morning. Guests can relax and enjoy cocktails sitting immediately outside their own Apartment, enjoying wonderful Tuscan sunsets and views to the Apennine mountains, snow capped in winter.

Set amongst gardens and olive groves in the heart of Tuscany, steeped in history and stunning natural beauty, Colleoli resort is the perfect location to relax and to explore the treasures of Pisa, Florence and Siena, and the hidden delights of medieval towns and villages. Located on the "Strada del Vino", with superb local food and classic wine.

The Apartment is located in a 23 acre estate, at the heart of which is the restored 15th Century Palazzo, an architectural gem retaining its original frescoes and delicate mouldings, now converted into a luxury boutique hotel. The Tuscan Apartment is one of several carefully converted from original estate buildings, complete with terracotta floors and exposed beams. The amenities of the estate include two large pools, one heated, a heated children's pool, an excellent restaurant, and informal dining in the enotecca wine bar. There are currently Jazz evenings (in season) at week-ends. The resort concierge service is available to apartment guests and can provide restaurant recommendations and arrange airport transfers and tours and excursions etc.

The Tuscany region

Tuscany provides a spectacular setting for the perfect holiday or short break. The choice of superb local cuisine and classic Tuscan wines - all at amazingly low prices - are yours to savour.

Colleoli Village resort is a beautiful rural village and an idyllic retreat. It is a superb base from which to explore Pisa, Florence, Siena, Lucca, and everything else that Tuscany has to offer. The jet-setter beach resort of Forte dei Marmi is a forty minute drive, and the vibrant night-life of Marina del Pisa is less than a thirty minute drive. Superb sailing around the islands off Pisa is close by, and the historic towns of San Miniato, Volterra, Pistoia, and San Gimignano are all within easy reach. The major ski resort of Abetone can be reached in an hour and a half. Excellent golf options are less than 20 minutes drive away from the complex.
Pisa, with its famous leaning Tower, is a major tourist destination, but is also a historic University town as well as a thriving commercial centre. It has excellent restaurants, bars, shopping and sightseeing. Florence is a beautiful town of Renaissance architecture, museums, and cultural centres, and is an all-year round tourist destination and one of Europe's most visited cities.

For a more cosmopolitan holiday experience there are excellent shopping malls in 15 mins drive, there is designer outlet shopping (30-50% below UK prices), and the nearby town of Pontedera has cinemas, clubs and nightlife. The beaches north and south of Pisa are within an hours drive and it is possible to take a day trip ferry to the islands of the coast.

Pisa area

In the heart of rural Tuscany, a narrow winding road rises gradually uphill through the towns of Montopoli and Palaia to Colleoli Village. The resort sits on the "Strada del Vino", the local wine trail, with small vineyards
offering their own superb Tuscan wines. The local area offers excellent dining choices at remarkably low prices. It is conveniently located just 25 miles from Florence, and 15 miles from Pisa, within easy reach of connecting airports. The Pisa/Florence train runs through Pontedera, just 3 miles below the resort. Palaia, the 15th century hilltop village, is steeped in history and was the scene of battles and sieges throughout medieval times. It has excellent bars, restaurants, and local amenities, and stages Crostini and medieval festivals in the summer. Nearby historic towns include San Miniato, Volterra, and San Gimignano. There is excellent golf within a twenty minute drive, and Marina del Pisa, the seafront and night time entertainment hot spot, is less than thirty minutes away by car. Beaches and sailing choices run along the nearby coast north and south of Pisa, including the famous designer resort of Forte di Mare. A horse riding school (€25 per hour) is immediately adjacent the resort, and offers individual or group (max 5) riding on hillside trails.

How to get there

The Resort can be reached from several airports, including Pisa, Florence, Bologna and Genoa, although the most convenient is Pisa. Airlines flying to Pisa from the UK /Ireland include:

Ryanair have a deal with Hertz and car hire can be obtained from as little as 15 Euros per day. The drive from Pisa airport to the Borgo is straightforward and detailed directions can be supplied at the time of booking.

Driving from the UK takes approx 13 hours actual driving time. Great for loading up with olive oil and wine.

The apartment was ininitially renovated in 2003 and the current owners have recently decorated and furnished the Aoartment to an exceptionally high standard. There is heating/air conditioning system and the owners have installed their own Kitchenette to a high specification. The lounge diner is particularly large and spacious, as is the ground floor double bedroom with en-suite toilet/shower. The living area is light and airy with superb views from the lounge. On the first floor there is a further double bedroom and en-suite. There is a reception/concierge and a weekly housekeeping service. Additional housekeeping can be booked locally (at an hourly charge).

The local area is not a mass tourist destination (thankfully). Although menus are sometimes available in english, you are advised to carry a phrase book unless you speak Italian.

The resort ambience itself changes with the seasons. Busy in summer and quiet in winter. It generally attracts the more discerning and independent traveller. The area is very children friendly, but there are no organised children's activities. Teenagers seeking "action" will need to go to Pontedera, about a 15 min drive, where there are clubs, bars, cinemas etc, or the more trendy areas around Marina di Pisa. For late night living a car is recommended.
