The Tuscany region
Tuscany, with its spectacular hill towns and scenery, is one of Italy's top vacation destinations. Tuscany's travel attractions include historic cities and art, great wine and food, medieval hill towns, beaches, and beautiful countryside.
Tuscany is one of the most beautiful areas of Italy, with a landscape of rolling vineyard-covered hills, rows of cypress trees, medieval fortified hill towns and a rugged coastline interspersed with sandy beaches. Enjoy stunning scenery and some of the most outstanding sights of Italy, including the beautiful cities of Florence, Pisa and Lucca.
Tuscany is the perfect destination for different kinds of holidays, with its ideal climate it is also suitable for active holidays, as well as for the art lovers and the fantastic cuisine.
April to October sees the main tourist season in Tuscany, but Autumn to early Spring is recommended for the the best time for visitors to see all the attractions the Region has to offer without the extensive queues of High season.
Must see in Pisa is the Leaning Tower with the amazing Piazza dei Miracoli Italy’s premier tourist attraction. The tower has been re-opened to visitors to climb to the top.
Pisa is a city of great history and of an enormous artistic wealth. Step away you’ll discover the old town with palaces from Renaissance, medieval tower-houses, churches in Romanesque and Gothic style, narrow pebbled streets leading to the River Arno.
Enjoy the scenery of the lungarni with boat service in Pisa (operating from April to October) or with coach tour in the natural beauty of San Rossore Park where lies the racecourse—the gallop season goes from October to March.
For a great view of Pisa try the Pisa City Bus Sightseeing tours. Choose between Line A (old town) and Line B (old town and San Rossore Nature Park).
Giugno Pisano is the liveliest month in Pisa for most traditional events:
June 16th: La Luminara di San Ranieri. On the 16th of June the city centre is decorated with thousands of candles which light up the Lungarni.
June 17th: San Ranieri's Day. San Ranieri is the Patron Saint of Pisa and is celebrated with a Regatta of the Historical Quarters of Pisa.
The last Sunday of June: Gioco del Ponte. The Gioco del Ponte for the people of Pisa is the equivalent of the Palio for the people of Siena.
Traditional "sagre" everywhere in the countryside in summer, which are outdoors gastronomic festivals, each offering food and wine inspired by a particular theme or ingredient
On the coast the sandy beaches are only minutes drive. You can choise different beaches every day: for example, the natural dunes of Marina di Vecchiano or the white sandy beaches of Tirrenia, lined by beautiful pinewoods, or the renowned wide beaches of Versilia coast from Viareggio to Forte dei Marmi.
Ten minutes drive to reach the beautiful walled city of Lucca, a graceful town with medieval streets. There is much to do in Lucca. The walls provide a tree-lined pedestrianized promenade circuiting the city with parks, playgrounds and cafés, and are perfect for cycling around on hired bikes or picnicking.
Within the city, every third Saturday, there is a large monthly antique market within several piazzas. Characteristic medieval streets, worthy of mention is "via degli antiquari" where you can see the fine antique shops and the teeming and smart Via Fillungo

Wonderful tours to historic villas “Ville Lucchesi” around Lucca Villa Mansi, Villa Oliva, Villa Grabau, Villa Bernardini, Villa Torrigiani and Villa Reale that are open to the public most of which do guided tours.
North of Lucca, you can visit the medieval hilltop town of Barga that retains close links with Scotland and has a “fish and chips” festa in summer and boasts magnificent views over the surrounding Garfagnana mountains.
A place of honor is also extra virgin olive oil produced by local farms, which accompanies good natural foods and tasty and delicious cuisine. Along the “Tuscan Wine Trials” itineraries for the enjoyment of the wine, oil and flavors of Tuscany you will find farms, wineries, churches and castles, in a magnificent setting and harvested at the same time.
Nature is very generous as well: the Pisan area is rich in thermal waters and natural spas: wellness treatments are presented at San Giuliano Terme and Casciana Terme (holistic cures available, too).
Outside of Lucca, you can do day trips to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Chianti region, or decide for a tour of the Carrara marble quarry (the pure white marble used in all the statuary).
