About the home

Villa Fosciana is in the National Park of the wonderful Garfagnana area, arguably the most scenically beautiful part of Tuscany. Set above the village of Pieve Fosciana, with fantastic views from every angle of the house, the villa is the perfect refuge from the stress of modern living whilst being near the market town of Castelnuovo and the numerous other villages of the area.

The villa has 3 bedrooms, all en-suite and with doors to the outside terrace and pool. There is also a small, newly renovated 1 bedroomed house a few metres away, which can only be rented with the villa to increase the capacity to 9 people. Casa Rosa costs between 450 and 550 pounds per week.

The infinity pool is large, 10 x 7 metres, with a spacious solarium situated by the ground floor of the house with views all round.

Reached by a tree lined avenue, the Villa Fosciana has been beautifully restored preserving the ancient chestnut beams and terracotta floors typical in Tuscany.

The villa is furnished with taste and elegance throughout, with interesting antique furniture. As the estate has been owned by the family for centuries, portraits of their ancestors adorn the walls, showing a strong link not only with an aristocratic past but also with the rustic ambience of the simple rural Garfagnana life.

The most striking aspect of the restoration of the house has been the creation of the enclosed terrace, now part of the living area, which has 2 walls almost entirely constructed of enormous windows, giving a dramatic view of the Garfagnana, and the fantastic sunsets which can be observed from this part of the valley.

The main part of the large living room has an imposing open fireplace, comfortable and stylish furniture, an elegant dining table and small, fully equipped modern kitchen. There are 3 lovely bedrooms, 2 double and one twin,all with en-suite bathrooms and doors to the sun-deck.

Although Villa Fosciana has a maximum capacity for 7 people, the romantic little house a few metres away, known as Casa Rosa, can be hired along with the villa farmhouse, increasing capacity to 10. Casa Rosa has also been reconstructed with an eye on traditional detail. It is self contained with a double mezzanine bedroom and a comfortable open plan lounge with a fully-equipped kitchen.

What really makes Villa Fosciana different from other holiday villas in Tuscany with pools are the extensive grounds which hold chestnut and alpine woods, fruit orchards, olive groves and cultivated terraces. There are paths throughout, giving access to a private, romantic and safe natural environment, with the whole range of the unique mix of flora and fauna which can be found in the Garfagnana.

The farmer and caretaker of the grounds lives nearby and can be seen caring for the environment in the traditional way.

This is a villa of the highest quality offering a uniquely peaceful holiday.

The famous "art" cities of Florence, Sienna and Lucca are huge attractions, whilst the culinary tradition is there to be savoured.

The Pieve Fosciana area

The area is well known for its excellent value cooking, using the best of local ingredients. A typical set lunch with 4 choices of pasta course, and 4 choices of main course costs only 9 euros inclusive of bread, wine and coffee. It is possible to have a multi-course traditional Sunday lunch or dinner with ample wine, coffee and liquors for less than 25 euros.

Garfagnana is the best area in Tuscany for walking.
We have links with an outdoor activities company who offer guided walks and climbing, mountain biking, canoeing and world class gorge walking.
