Built in 1820 on the site of a former Chateau, the stunning Chateau des Varennes is a rare gem. Beautifully furnished and comprehensively equipped, it offers the discerning guest a unique holiday experience. Perfect for a family holiday, celebration or business meetings, the Chateau des Varennes comprises a cross-section of grand state and cosy, family-style rooms, ideal for entertaining guests. Breakfast every morning is included in the rental price.

For a flat fee of €750 per week a maid will be available full time to do: cleaning, waiting, basic food preparation (although not a full chef service), laundry & pool cleaning.

The Burgundy / Cote-d'Or region

- The Château is situated 3km north west of the small village of Charrette with its bakery and restaurant, and 9km north west of Pierre de Bresse where larger shops and facilities are located (as well as a wonderful 17th century Chateau).

Pierre de Bresse area

- Beaune, the famous wine capital of Burgundy, is only 38km away.
- It is also in close proximity to an excellent golf course.
- Fishing, canoeing, and boat hire are available nearby on the River le Doubs.

The Chateau des Varennes can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests in its 10 bedrooms. Breakfast each morning and 3 hours daily maid service are included in the rental price.

Ground floor: - An unusual Italiante-style, rose marble and mosaic floored, entrance hall.
- Oak panelled dining room, cut from the estate ground in 1900.
- Grand ornate salon, with a painted frieze depicting the four seasons.
- Another grand salon, with marble fireplace.
- Wonderful grand staircase leading to the en-suite bedrooms.
- Kitchen and utility rooms with two domestic sized ovens, microwave, separate grill and dishwasher.

First floor: - 2 large single bedrooms - both with basin, bidet, and WC.
- 1 formal double-canopied bedroom with basin and bidet.
- 2 single bedrooms.
- Separate WC.

Second floor: - 1 double bedroom with tiled bathroom, bath, basin, bidet and WC.
- 1 twin bedded room with basin and bidet.
- 1 twin bedded room.
- 1 large single room with basin, bath, and bidet.
- 1 double-bedded room with 2 cots.
- Separate WC in corridor.

Outside: The Chateau des Varennes is set in 90 private acres of parkland with woods and English style gardens, guaranteeing privacy and tranquillity. You will enjoy its many walks, discover the local birds and wildlife, and even tell the time using the gardens' charming 19th century sundial. May 2007 sees the introduction of a brand new 15x5m swimming pool.

Facilities include a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. Telephone for local calls only. Inclusive in the rental price is maid service (3 hours daily), a traditional Bourguignon breakfast on the first Sunday, and all electricity, linen and towels.

- Security deposit: €3000. This is paid prior to arrival and will be refunded in full after departure subject to damage inspection.
- Linen & towels: All linen and towels are included in the rental price.

Guestbook for Chateau des Varennes

Since 1999 I have rented Le Chateau de Varennes 11 times, for both friends and family and, more recently, business clients. The Chateau itself is truly a gem - a beautiful, expansive property in a fantastically tranquil location within easy driving distance of Beaune, The Cote D'Or, Dijon and The Jura.

In my view it is unique in that it offers the opportunity to stay in and enjoy a real chateau, as opposed to a mere holiday property. All of the grand reception rooms are wonderfully authentic, whilst the bedrooms are by turns grand, cosy or delightfully individual. The more recent addition of a state-of-the-art swimming pool and pool house completes a holiday or business entertaining experience I couldn't recommend more highly.
