Old town full of historic palaces.
The ancient Roman Gigia is today one of the most modern cities in northern Spain, with many activities, life and culture, emphasizing, among other centers and museums, the old University, today Laboral City of Culture. Essential places to visit are Cerro de Santa Catalina, with the famous sculpture of Chillida “The Praise of the Horizon”, the old town or neighborhood adjacent Cimadevilla, the Roman baths and many museums and palaces. In July they celebrate the Semana Negra de Gijón, famous international film festival, novels and comics.
Indispensable old town with lovely squares, streets and corners like postcards. Its origins date back to the year 761, when he founded a monastery on Mount Oveto. In nearby Mount Naranco, must visit the most famous monuments of Pre-Romanesque: the Palace of Santa María del Narancol and the Church of San Miguel de Lillo, s. IX. At the top of the mountain there is a spectacular view with a large sculpture of Christ the Redeemer.
Lovely old town. Niemeyer Arts Centre, with spectacular futuristic architecture typical of this great Brazilian architect and open to all kinds of artistic events (music, film, theater, dance, exhibitions, gastronomy...).
