You couldn't be closer to the water's edge in our self-catering suite at the head of a slipway and old historic port, now exclusively recreational. Whether your choice is bathing in the warm, clear, Gulf Stream waters, fishing, diving or boating, it is all available right at your door!

We are also positioned in a UNESCO protected area, right at the starting point of a popular hiking trail that meanders through a UNESCO designated, historic, rock-walled, Verdelho wine growing area.

The main town of Madalena is just 7 kilometers away where 2 supermarkets, museums, restaurants, bars and local shops can be found.

For the more adventurous, the imposing Pico Mountain, the highest in Portugal at 2,351 meters, offers climbers the opportunity to climb a classic volcanic 'cone' and from the summit have the unsurpassed view of the entire central group of islands.

The unit, although most comfortable for just a couple, is equipped with a double bed and a single bed in a large bedroom with a double sleeper-couch in the living room, in the event of more sleeping space being needed. This open-plan living room includes a kitchen equipped with gas stove, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery and a dining area with inter-leading shower and toilet facilities.

The Azores region

Its majestic Pico, with 2,352 m the highest peak in all of Portugal, makes Pico Island stand out from all the other islands of the archipelago. Also famous for its whaling tradition, Pico is the second largest island of the archipelago, covering a surface of about 448 sq. km (about 46 km long and 15 km wide). The distances to the other islands of the central group, of which Pico is the most southern, are about 8 km to Faial, 15 km to São Jorge, 80 km to Graciosa and 100 km to Terceira.

The mountain rises out of the sea and up above the clouds. All around is the blue of the sky and the water and the green forms of islands that are dominated by its height. This is Pico, a volcanic cone that has been transformed by mans hand into vineyards and orchards that erupt among the black lava. Pico also signifies the epic nature of whale-hunting.

Nowadays this has evolved into the chance to observe these giants of the sea, to follow swiftly moving dolphins and appreciate the peaceful life of the many whale species that frequent the island waters.

- Bathed by a warm branch of the Gulf Stream, the archipelago enjoys an atlantic maritime climate, with only slight variations in annual temperature.
