The Pickering / Thornton-le-Dale area
Just two miles to the east of Pickering, the beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale lies within The North York Moors National Park. This charming little village has a complicated shape and is comprised of a fascinating labyrinth of streams and paths which run between the pretty houses and around the village green, which still has its wooden stocks and a market cross. Hidden amongst the beautiful houses is a selection of shops, pubs and tearooms whilst the nearby market town of Pickering offers a further range of essential services as well as the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Forestry Commission woodland at Dalby is worth a visit and has several excellent nature trails to be enjoyed whilst slightly further away is the historic cathedral city of York with its huge range of shops, cinemas and museums.

The welcome was friendly and relaxed. The converted barn was very spacious and the beds really comfortable. We had everything we needed (except that we forgot to bring towels and had to buy some).... more |
