2155 - Black Swan Cottage
About the home
Built in stone and forming part of a terrace, this Grade II listed property offers sleeping accommodation for up to four people. It has retained much of its original charm through exposed beams, original stonework and a wood-burning stove that helps to transform the cottage into a cosy snug in the colder weather. There is a small outdoor space to the rear of the property, in which you can enjoy a drink or two in the balmy summer evenings.

The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline. A haven for walkers, the area also boasts great cycling, gliding, riding and fishing, whilst North York Moors Railway is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed setting. Visit the market towns of Pickering or Thirsk; the latter famous for its links with the English country vet and author, James Herriot. Nearby, some of Yorkshire’s best-loved villages including Thornton-le-Dale and Rosedale Abbey offer a taste of village life, as does Goathland, ‘Aidensfield’ in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’.
Finally, stop off at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, two of Britain’s most historic stately homes situated in breathtaking parklands and gardens. The cliffs, sandy beaches and smugglers’ caves of the Yorkshire coastline are a haven for beachcombers and coastal walkers. Discover the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, with their brightly coloured fishing boats. Finally, there’s the historic city of York, with its interactive Viking Centre, Roman walls, medieval streets, vibrant shops and gothic York Minster cathedral.
The Pickering area
The beautiful market town of Pickering is located on the North Yorkshire Moors National Park border. According to town legend, it was founded by Peredurus, a king who ruled during 270 BC. Pickering is filled with flowing streams and limestone hills, creating a spectacular and dramatic backdrop. For evenings out, the town has plenty of theatres, leisure centres and live music; an annual Jazz Festival is held during the month of July. Nature lovers will find Pickering especially appealing with its breathtaking landmarks, such as Dalby Forest, which is home to a variety of beautiful trees and animals such as the nightjar bird and roe deer. Another wonderful conservational must-see is the North Yorkshire Moors National Park itself, consisting of miles of stunning and unspoilt countryside. Tourists will love a taste of royalty by visiting Pickering Castle. The castle was built in Motte and Bailey style during the 13th and 14th Centuries and later fortified in stone.

Guestbook for 2155 - Black Swan Cottage
Black Swan Cottage provided us with the perfect place to stay whilst visiting Pickering. The house is right in the heart of the village and it has excellent bus and train routes to attractions such as Goathland, Whitby and Scarborough. There is a great supermarket just five minutes walk as well as both an Indian restaurant/ take away and Pizzeria. The house was well equipped and spotlessly clean and we had ample parking right outside the door.
