Cha-am is an attractive coastal small quiet town located 25km north of Hua Hin and around 170 kilometres south of Bangkok. The population of Cha-am is between 4500 – 50,000 inhabitants. It has good infrastructure, doctors, a hospital, many pharmacies and a railway station, from where you can travel by train to Bangkok or to the south of Thailand.?

Cha-am is located directly at the Gulf of Thailand, so the climate is relatively mild and stable. The annual average temperature is about 28 Celsius Cha-am as in many parts of Thailand there are three seasons: Rainy Season (May – October) - it generally rains for one or two hours or during night time. Cold Season (October – March) - this is the high season; the resort is quite busy and expensive. The temperatures could be below 20 Celsius at night and 25 -30 Celsius during the day. Hot Season (March – May) -it is really hot. The average temperature is about 36 Celsius during the day but cooler at night. ?

While Cha-Am successfully caters for foreign tourists, it remains a Thai resort, with a large majority of Thai tourists. However, the sea isn't really crystal clear, so if you want to do some diving or snorkelling, you should go further down south, to an island like Ko Tao or Ko Pha Ngan. Please also note that there is hardly any nightlife in Cha-Am. There are much better places elsewhere if you are after partying and nightlife action.

Phetchaburi Town

Cha-Am's main attraction is its long and beautiful beach. But you can also go and see the fishing pier, the market and some temples. North of Cha-Am are other beautiful beaches and the city of Phetchaburi, and south of Cha-am is Hua Hin, the famous seaside resort.

The main administrative area and old part of town is to the west of Petchkasem Road. Here you will find the Post Office, government buildings, police station and train station. There is a lively local fresh market and also a night market that are well worth visiting. There are many beauty salons barbershops with local price and polyclinics with highly qualified doctors.

Nightlife is a small group of bars offering the standard hostess service and an increasing number of family-friendly establishments offering relaxed atmosphere and good food.??

Night Market: Mondays and Wednesdays are night-market days in Cha Am. The Wednesday market is among the biggest and most well-known across country. In Cha Am, the prices are at the 'local' rate. The market offers a wide variety of everything you can expect to buy in Thailand.

The Fishing Pier: The fishing pier is at the north of Cha-Am. Go north along the beachfront and keep going straight through the gravelled road that starts from Wat Neranchararam (i.e. don't follow the road that veers left). You will find the pier, and many seafood restaurants.?

Maruekatayawan Palace; is the old Royal summer residence. Its teak has been beautifully restored and is certainly worth a visit. It is located 8km south of Cha-Am. Constructed in 1923 by Rama VI, the palace is an excellent example of a raised-floor wooden palace.
