The Languedoc is unbeatable in terms of variety. There are three mountain ranges, the Mediterranean coast, Cathar castles, hot, coastal plains, undulating vineyards, rivers, forests, olive groves, cosmopolitan cities and sleepy french villages, with shellfish extraordinaire and wine flowing in every village. All that and 300 days of sunshine a year. Maison Vailhan is ideally situated to discover it all.

Living

A palette of soft greys works perfectly as a backdrop to the stunning views of the hills beyond the village of Vailhan, and views of the ancient village itself. Maison Vailhan has been lovingly renovated with subtle interior flair . The style is very much French chic with hand painted furniture, original artworks, cool grey linens and soft creamy cotton fabrics, deep pile rugs and ceramic tiled floors. The living/dining room, kitchen and hall are all on the ground floor, each area within the living space flows through into the next.

Eating

The kitchen perfectly equipped for your stay, and there is plenty of space for storage. The kitchen has all the mod cons you need for your stay including a large stainless steel fridge/freezer, oven, ceramic hob, extractor, microwaves, kettle, toaster and plenty of crockery and cutlery, whilst the dining room adjacent opens onto a raised terrace and looks out over the garden and pool.

Sleeping

On the first floor there are three large bedrooms, 2 doubles rooms and one twin. Each decorated with an individual style. Both the master bedroom and the twin bedroom open out onto a large first floor terrace at the front of the villa. The double bedroom is at the rear of the house and has stunning views of the vineyards and hills beyond.

Bathroom & WC

Maison Vailhan has a spacious fully tiled family bathroom with large corner bath with chrome shower over, freestanding basin set into marble top unit and toilet, there is a separate cloakroom with a WC on the ground floor.

Garden

The enclosed rear garden has an elevated terrace ideal for alfresco dining overlooking the summing pool with panoramic views over the village and surrounding countryside as well as a built in BBQ for lazy summer evenings. The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The property is located on in a picturesque hill top village of Vailhan just 20 minutes from Pézenas.

Pézenas prides itself on it's past; reflected in it's fascinating winding streets and period architecture. Often called the 'Versailles' of the Languedoc, summer visitors are treated to a feast of festivals, costume dramas, concerts and exhibitions.

Alternatively, take your pick from the numerous pavement cafés and watch the world drift slowly by before retiring to any one of the dozens of excellent, traditional restaurants. 4 supermarkets to choose from.

Don't miss the famous Saturday market that spills into the streets from daybreak and lasts all day. Discover the many artisan shops in the old quarter, and the kilometer-long stretch of antique and bric-a-brac (brocante) stores.

Sunny, sandy Mediterranean beaches lie just 12 miles South of Pézenas. Beachfront cafés, seafood restaurants and all the glamour and glitz of summer in the South of France.

Marseillan Plage and Serignan Plage for the quieter beaches, Cap d'Agde for all the entertainments, chic shopping and activities. Here you'll find golf, huge water park, 'Aqualand' (for both children and adults), water sports, boat trips, further restaurants and the Marine Aquarium.

Béziers and Montpellier offer excellent shopping and hypermarkets. Béziers has possibly the best flower market (Fridays) on the Mediterranean coast.

Discover the ocean of vineyards for superb wine-tasting or discover more about the famous Southern French aperitif 'pastis' at the Paul Ricard plant in Bessan. Alternatively, the Noilly Prat museum and guided tour of the factory is in Marseillan.

Superb hiking just miles from Pézenas on the Mourgettes footpath, or take a picnic to Lake Salagou for wonderful fresh-water swimming and water sports.

The Gorges d'Héric in the Languedoc National Park offers astounding scenery that will make you forget you are so close to the Mediterranean coast. Head East and don't miss the Pont du Gard on a day trip to Provence; Avignon, Arles and the pink flamingos and white horses in the Camargue. Head West to experience the giant and imposing fortified city of Carcassonne. Alternatively, the beautiful Côte Vermaille and it's charming beaches in the shadow of the Pyrénées.

Pezenas

Vailhan is a small village which lies beneath ruins of the old castle called Lou Castela. All that remains of this former manor house are a few walls. The commune of Vailhan is made up of 7 hamlets. In 1111, upon the return from the crusade in Palestine, Guilhaume de Vailhan, distributed the land to his seven companions in arm. There has not been a Vailhan residential manor since the abandonment of the Castela (big castle), which dates from at least the thirteenth century. Vailhan field geology is known as one of the richest in the department of Herault.

The village boasts a classic French style restaurant "l'Auberge du Presbytère" which is situated in the grounds of the church and overlooks the village swimming lake . There is also a daily bread delivery service that delivers fresh croissants, pain au chocolate and a variety of traditional breads from the local boulangere. For other food provisions a quick visit to local Roujan will adequately stock up on depleted supplies or if preferred a visit to a larger supermarket can be made in the next town of Pezenas.

Vailhan is just a fifteen minute drive from the picturesque medieval town of Pezenas, five minutes from the rural village of Roujan and a mere twenty five minutes drive from the Mediterranean Sea. Vailhan is twenty minutes from Beziers-Agde Airport, forty five minutes from Montpellier and an hour and a quarter from Carcassonne.
