The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

To the south west there are the bustling towns of Bezier, Narbonne and the medieval Carcasonne. In August Bezier has its week long 'Feria' with its Bulls, Horses and Music. Spain is also only one and half hours away with its fantastic coastal villages. To the east Montpellier - the chic vibrant city with designer boutiques and the newly refurbished Musee Fabre. And then on to Arles and Nimes for a Romanesque adventure. For the skiing enthusiast Andorra is 2 hours away. There are two golf courses at Montpellier, one at Cap D'Agde and one only 15 minutes away from Pezenas.
The Pezenas area
Walk out of the front door of the apartment and you are in the historic area of Pezenas, with its labyrinth of cobbled streets, historic buildings, artist studios, bro cants (35 at the last count) and many cafes, bars and fantastic restaurants. Pezenas is alive with a flurry of festivals, markets and exhibitions. This part of the South of France has a multitude to offer - plentiful vineyards to visit, stunning Mediterranean beaches only 20 minutes away and the fascinating Herault countryside, dotted with medieval villages, lakes and rivers. Each and every day is unique with the only constant being the glorious Mediterranean sunshine.

This apartment in Pezanas was a highlight of our two months o/seas holiday, not just for its location, but also for its spacious well equipped accommodation, its character, and its cosiness. It is artistically decorated with drawings, paintings and sculptures and while the loft is modern chic, below is traditional and smart; good taste is evident. The booking arrangements were quickly made without any problem. The owners provide by e-mail and hardcopy local knowledge of shops and restaurants, and also a map of the town showing the apartment location. The minor drawback with medieval towns such as Pezanas and Uzes is that your car must be parked in a nearby (no charge) car park – five minutes walk, no great inconvenience. Between four of us we had considerable luggage and managed without difficulty. The apartment is centrally located. The town's restaurants, bars, shops, both tourist and conveniences are close by. The large supermarkets are 5 minutes drive away and the variety is unbelievable. Check out the local oysters, inexpensive, huge and the flavour is great! The markets on Saturday offer quality local produce and hot meals – the Spanish influenced seafood dishes are wonderful. Consider. This apartment is in a historic building with a central courtyard, 16th century – Moliere the great French satirist playwright who lived in Pezanas probably ….. ok possibly but very well might have walked up these stairs. Far fetched? Only to the non believers. I believed it. Each morning as I walked down those stairs at 07:30 to buy my baguette, out onto the cobbled lane. Imagine how many legs have walked this lane over the centuries. At this time of the morning. To buy a baguette....maybe fromage de chevre. Mmmm hunger!! Pezanas is a great place to explore with its old buildings, art galleries, tourist shops, bars and restaurants. Apart from all that there are many towns in the region well worth a visit for historical, gastronomique and/or cultural highlights, or you could go for a swim in the Med or a river. For us this apartment was an ideal and attractive base. Photos of the apartment, Pezanas and region can be found on my Picasa site https://picasaweb.google.com/barry.mcgloin/SouthOfFrance : |
Guestbook for Pezenas Apartment
Hi Tim and Amanda
Thanks for the privilege of staying in your glorious apartment in the charming town of Pezenas last week. You’ve created a true haven, with the perfect blend of grandeur, charm, and comfort – next time, we’ll stay longer! Pezenas is an incredible place, the kind of French town you dream of discovering one day.

We had a delightful time in your lovely apartment in Pezenas. It is clear
that you have put a lot of love, care, and style into its creation....an amazing
work of art in its own right!!! And, Pezenas is a wonderful town/village. We
were a bit too early to find as many of the artisan studios or shops open as we
would have liked, but it was great to wander around and explore the few that
were open. The antiquity of Pezenas' buildings (including your own) is truly
magnificent....a beautiful place.
We also enjoyed our travels in the Languedoc and could certainly see ourselves
traveling here again.
Thanks again for all your helpful correspondence prior to our stay and for your
attention to my request for a laptop during the stay. It was very convenient to
have.
So, a big thanks for sharing your "haven" with us. It will long be
remembered...

I highly recommend staying in this beautiful and comfortable apartment in the centre of Pezenas. Whether your visit is to escape from the noise and fast pace of another world, or simply as the perfect base to explore the rustic charms of the Languedoc region, it will not disappoint. For me, it was both.
I certainly hope to return and enjoy its ambience again, to venture out to the bustling colourful market, the excellent food and wine in nearby restaurants, to meander the narrow paths and alleys of the historic centre, and to discover more of what makes Pezenas the idyllic French retreat that it is... The most resounding memory for me is the sound of bells chiming to a soothing rhythm, with sun pouring through beautiful shuttered windows, filling the living room with light and warmth...

LOVE HISTORICAL FRANCE? - THEN THIS IS HEAVEN!

The very comprehensive description of the property was more than born out in reality - the management representatives were fabulous, picked us up at the airport and ensured we were settled in. Given we were extremely tired, this was a great reception.
The apartment is amazing - sited on a corner to get the best of the morning and evening sun, it stays cool and provides the best of contemporary heaven in the upper room, with traditional but smart and fresh on the main floor. Fully equipped kitchen, lovely wines on arrival were a kind touch and all you need for a completely restful break.
The old town location is lively in the day and so, so peaceful at night - no vehicles and only locals and tourists exploring the galleries and eclectic shops in the narrow cobbled streets.
The town of Pezenas is a mine of friendly cafes and bars with an amazing array of individual shops and a wonderful Saturday market. To eat anything that was more than 24 hours old would be criminal! It is a very relaxing place to go.
As wine buffs we had to explore the local vineyards and drink our favourite Picpoul de Pinet in its home town of Pinet, so we hired a car for a few days and headed for the coast (amazing try Sête and Marseillan and the beautiful, unspoilt beach in between).
Don’t miss the Belle Mare Vineyard, just outside of Meze where Italian/French Winemaker Fabienne creates amazing wines in a state of the art facility adjoining the oyster beds of Lake Thau.

What a wonderful holiday we have spent in Pezenas
Terry and Shelly Queensland Australia. Date of Stay: May 2009
What a wonderful holiday we have spent in Pezenas in your delightful apartment! Thank you so much for leaving us the computer as well, as it has been a godsend for emailing family and researching places to go. Not to mention the bottle of rose – such a happy surprise. We absolutely adore the apartment – everything about it! Our beds were so comfortable, and the doonahs so light and snugly. We slept like babies. Our breakfast ritual each morning overlooking the courtyard with fresh Pezenas bread and coffee out of the two little Limoges cups was a memory we will treasure. The coffee machine was a great hit, thank you so much for that! Your restaurant recommendations were great – we loved Les Palmiers, Le Vieux Coq, l’Entrepot, Bar Cinq, and the Vin Bar in the main street. And if we could return for anything each Saturday it would be the canard aux olives at the markets. What a heavenly meal! With our thanks once again for a truly memorable haven for our stay.

Our stay at Apartment Rue du Chateau Pezenas
French Enthusiasts Beaford, Devon, UK .Date of Stay: April 2009
We had a super stay (14 days). We didn't want for anything, if anything, the "extras" such as TV's and all the latest DVD library made it difficult for our "teenagers" to leave. Kitchen and cooking facilities, all high standard and the "Loft" fitted to enable parents to retreat at the end of a busy day sightseeing. The apartment situated right in the centre of "historical" Pezenas and thus resulted in easy access to everything. Ideal for walking around the renowned "Saturday Market". Easy access to Montpelier and further afield. Great time was had by all of us!!! Flight from Bristol to Beziers Cap d' Adge (BZR) quaint little airport (Ryanair), was problem free

Beautiful Apartment
MarwarSuperstar London .Date of Stay: January 2009
Andrea and I arrived here the day after our wedding, and we were delighted by every element of the location and property. The property is stunning both inside and out, with the most amazing bedroom space on the top floor. Pre-service, contact, etc was all perfect. There are also some fantastic places to eat whilst in Pezenas - You just have to go to L'Entrepot! Wonderful, wonderful place and not expensive. I will definitely return to Pezenas, it is a little quiet in the evening, but it acts as a great base for the coast away from other overly busy areas. When I do return I have no doubt I will stay in this property.

Beautiful Apartment
Wendy & Tony Dorking, Surrey. UK.Date of Stay: October 2008
The apartment was as wonderful as the description implied. It was great to stay somewhere with so much character: both historically and with so many stunning modern touches. We found the booking process very easy with the owners providing fast and accurate advice. When we arrived, we were met by a very friendly local agent who showed us into the spotlessly clean apartment. We originally booked for just myself and my husband but, as there were 3 bedrooms, felt that we ought to share the experience so invited my sister and her husband for a few days too. The space availaible is great for sharing but not too large if you were wanting a quiet break away with your other half. Keep luggage light as it is a little bit of a walk from the local car parks (no direct access) - but this is worth the effort to stay in the beautiful ancient centre of Pezenas. I would highly recommend this property to those looking for a relaxing (and romantic!) quirky hideaway in a very beautiful part of France. Enjoy!

A Fantastic Stay
G64 London Date of Stay: July 2008
We stayed for a few nights in the summer with our 3 children (aged 5, 9 and 12) and we all loved the apartment . It has real character and charm, and is located in the very heart of an historic town. The apartment has been very tastefully decorated and furnished, and this gives the place a very special feel. The shops nearby are great to browse trhough, and there are interesting bars and restaurants dotted around just a short walk from the apartment. Pezenas is also good base, and the autoroute nearby means you can travel to other places very easily. We have recommended this place to friends and family.
