The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

This region, Languedoc, is France's best kept secret, where you'll find the rural France you've always dreamed of. Sleepy villages of sun-warmed stones and red tiled roofs unspoilt by mass tourism, magnificent scenery ideal for rambles on foot or horseback amongst herb scented hills, with deep gorges tumbling into cool, inviting rivers.
If you can tear yourself away from such over-abundance of nature's generosity, there are many local places of interest nearby. Or an hour's drive takes you to splendid Roman towns such as Avignon, Nîmes, Arles to the east, stunning Carcassonne and the Cathar castles to the west. For a touch of true French sophistication, Montpellier, 45 kms, offers the arts, theatre, shopping, an international airport and train station. The Spanish border is only 1.5 hours' drive.
This is France’s largest, up-and-coming wine producing region and there are many opportunities to taste its excellent wines at private domains and cave co-operatives throughout the area.
The Pezenas / Peret area
Péret is a picturesque little village climbing typically higgledy piggledy up a hill crowned by a 14th century church and 12th century chapel. Local shops include a mini market/boulangerie, internet café and wine co-operative. Bar/restaurants in villages 4 kms along small country roads.
There are restaurants, supermarkets, shops and excellent weekly street markets in the lively market towns of Clermont l’Hérault, 8 kms and Pézenas, 10 kms. Both towns have public swimming pools.
Pezenas has a rich historical and architectural heritage and is well known for its antique dealers. On the 2nd weekend in May & October a huge antiques fair is held in the streets. During July many shops open until midnight two evenings a week.
Brilliant local markets, concerts and festivals year round include truffle and wine fairs. Private wine domaines hold classical concerts in lovely surroundings during the summer - under the stars in a fabulous chateau courtyard or in an atmospheric wine store - followed by wine tastings.
Swimming at Mediterranean beaches, 35 minutes and Lac Salagou, 10 minutes, which is also fun for fishing and non-motorised water sports. Canoe hire on the river Herault, 15 minutes.

Guestbook for Bellevue
Just to let you know we found the property to be an absolute delight. It exceeded our expectations and we had a very enjoyable stay. Mr & Mrs Stevens, UK
We had a fabulous holiday in Peret and were very impressed with the well-equipped and comfortable house in a great location. Many thanks for directing us to this property. Mr & Mrs Collins, UK
(After a stay in another property) ..... we clicked with the property at Bellevue in Peret the most. We especially loved the light filled sitting room and roof terrace- the place feels really homely and again has wonderful views. Another major plus was the village boulangerie just up the road..fresh warm bread and croissants for breakfast.
We love Languedoc. So much to do - if you want to be busy but equally great for lazy days by the lac, med, river pools or terrace! Teenage daughters aged 14 and 16 were happy...............
We will be recommending your website to family and friends.
Thanks Mr & Mrs Findlay, UK
"We came in search of the scene in the brochure. The camera does not lie!! ... the memory which will linger on is of your charming French house in a friendly village in the Languedoc. " - Mr & Mrs Walter, UK
"Thank you for sharing your home with us for two wonderful weeks. We had almost forgotten that such peace and quiet still existed. The house is very well equipped... " - Mr & Mrs Smart, Essex
We really enjoyed our stay in Péret and have good memories of lazy meals on the terrace watching the swallows playing in the gloaming, parking the car under the mulberries and doing some scrumping en passant!" - Professor & Mrs Belshaw, Norfolk.
