The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

Most things are available in the shops; Entertainment is what you would expect from an area which mixes old and new in a way that one does not detract from the other. It’s all here, you need only to visit the local tourist office or look at leaflets in the house and you will find all the information and ideas you need to enjoy your stay.
You will be able to travel to Spain and back in one day, maybe visiting the Salvador Dali museum, or stay overnight in Barcelona and visit the incredible Gaudi Cathedral. There are dozens of visits to make. The Camargue with its black bulls, white horses and flamingos is close, you could go on safari in a 4x4 with a guide. The upper river Herault has one way canoeing. Nîmes is about an hour away, with its Roman amphitheatre which is now used for music festivals and the like. Carcassone, a really impressive walled town with huge battlements and fairytale towers is best seen in the morning and over lunch. You can enjoy one of the regions most famous dishes, Cassolet.

Pezenas / Aumes area

Aumes is about 25 minutes from the sea. The nearest beaches are around Meze, Marseillan Plage and Cap d’Agde. A really good beach for the whole family is at Rochelongue. Ideal for younger children, there is a gradual slope into the water, and is protected by a breakwater. There are rock pools, and access is easy by car.
You will be relaxing in a wonderfully diverse region of France, where things change slowly, and where you have a society which values its traditions and ‘laisser faire’ above all else. You will appreciate a region which has remained true to its traditions, and is able to provide a range of interests of recreation for all ages and interests.
Pezenas,10 minutes from Aumes is probably the most well known market town in the area where most of the houses date from the 17th century. The whole of the old town, which has officially been classified as part of the French National Heritage is original, and it is as it was when Moliere and his theatrical company used to live here. Throughout the 17th century, to be near the governors of the Languedoc province (the Montmorency and Conti families), the aristocracy built impressive private mansions with inner courtyards and gardens, which have retained their charm and elegance from this bygone age. Pezenas is well situated to satisfy the needs of all its visitors; lying between mountains and sea, beaches are twenty minutes drive away. Pezenas is well positioned to allow exploration, education, and vinification to be enjoyed by the most active or the most relaxed of our visitors. Often called the Little Versailles, Pezenas has a wide range of arts and crafts, restaurants and places to visit. It is active all year round, and you will feel welcome . Each summer there are many theatrical, musical and street theatre events .

Guestbook for Marsanne

We have included here some comments by our visitors during 2008 describing Carignan from their own experiences. 1. We've had a glorious week here in Aumes. We've loved Pezenas - charming village full of friendly folk. Lodeve - a wonderful entry across the river into the centre ville. Sete - lots of action around the port. Take a harbour cruise, most enjoyable. The oysters are like sipping the sea! 2. To our wonderful hosts, thank you for allowing us to share your wonderful home, we have been absolutely delighted with the facilities, the attention to detail, and your kindness. 3. End of a very quick week! The villa was lovely, so firstly a big thank you to Ann and John for putting together a wonderful home from home. Enjoy your time here, we did, and big thanks again to Ann and John. 4. We leave here refreshed from our fortnights vacation. Due to our lazy lifestyle here we must be going home afew pounds heavier after all the BBQ and restaurant meals. Thank you Ann & John.
