The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Medieval Pézenas is rich in history, with authentic French character. Fabulous Saturday market, traditional bakeries, cafés and wine bars.
The old town is a 10-15 minute walk.
Pezenas is located amongst the Languedoc vineyards between Montpellier and Beziers. It is 12 miles from the Mediterranean coast with its glorious beaches.
Pezenas is a delightful town in true Languedoc tradition, with old winding streets, Renaissance architecture, magnificent Saturday market and a huge choice of pavement cafes and restaurants. There is a Supermarket 5 minutes walk away. The main shops are just a short drive or 20mins walk from the house. There is also a hospital in Pezenas.
Many cultural events (concerts, festivals and outdoor exhibitions) take place every summer. Pezenas is generally considered the prettiest and liveliest 'small' town in Languedoc. Totally unspoilt by tourism, the town is a bustling centre of Southern French life and a sheer delight on a summer's evening to sit and dine in the warm, open air and watch life drift gently by.
Mediterranean beaches lie 12 miles to the south. Endless, sandy child friendly beaches, waterfront cafes and restaurants, all water sports catered for. Further beaches, casinos, golf course, waterpark, theme parks, nightclubs can be found at Cap d'Agde (25 mins drive away). There is a bus station in Pezenas with regular services to the popular tourist destinations.
The Languedoc National Park is only 30m mins drive away. The lakes are fantastic for swimming and watersports. There's also the spectacular scenery to explore!
The nearest Airports are Montpellier 50mins drive away, Nimes 80mins, Carcassonne & Perpignan 90mins away with Gerona (Spain) 2 hours drive away.
The Mediterranean coast is about 12 kilometres from the villa. Here the choice is yours, for the quieter traditional family beach try Valras or Serignan Plage, but for more excitement and activities choose Cap d'Agde for shopping, golf, water sports, boat trips and not forgetting a huge water park (Aqua Land) suitable for all the family.
Pezenas has every amenity required for a smooth running holiday with four supermarkets, all popular banks, a plethora of good restaurants and bars and even an English shop which sells Marmite.
The centre of Pezenas is a 10-15 minute walk. Here there are many restaurants and cafe bars and a fantastic market each Saturday. Beziers is the next nearest large town, famous for its wonderful flower market held each Friday, unrivalled in the Mediterranean region.
Nearby there are many activities including horse riding, white water rafting, golf, cycling along the Canal du Midi and many others.
Montpellier is an hours drive, a lively and sophisticated city.
Carcassonne, a little longer drive, is a dreamy fortified medieval city. Then there is Barcelona a different country and culture but only 2.5 hours away.
